Would you rather stay at Quality Inn or Anaheim Plaza Inn

Just DH and I have a trip planned for 8/22-8/24 but today we decited we want to leave a day early (on Thursday 8/21). On 22-24 we have HoJos booked with the entertainment rate but it's not avaliable for the 21st. We want a cheep hotel within walking distance to DTD. I can get Quality Inn and Anaheim Plazza for the same price ($59.00) what one would you choose and why?

Not Quality Inn. I've heard a lot of bad reviews about it. Check the review on Bret's Disneyland Lodging Map : http://www.geocities.com/ashpsyche/DisneylandLinkMap.html

Click on Quality Inn: it's right behind McDonalds near the crosswalk. Instead of taking you to the hotel page, it takes you to his review where he talks about having bugs in his room! Icky!

Check on tripadvisor.com for the Plaza. I don't know, if you can get into your room at HoJo a day early, I think it would be worth it to just pay the regular rate (they will give you a 15% discount for mentioning the DISboards) and not have to move. Just my opinion.:goodvibes

Even with an AP at Hojos for that day it's 139! I remember seeing that review ob Bretts lodgeing map! YUCK! I think I might have to go with the Plaza~

The Anaheim plaza is very nice. I have stayed there about 8 times. You get great value for your money. It is about a 5 minute walk to the resort entrance. Every room has a fridge and microwave. Now its not the grand californian but it is clean and the rooms are a very decent size. We usually have 3-4 adults in the room and we do not feel cramped.

We've stayed at the Anaheim Plaza twice and we'll be staying there again in January. It's an older hotel but our room was clean both times. Last summer, the pool was nice because the weather was horrible (108 degrees outside!) The fridge and microwave were also nice to have.

We did have one day when the AC in the building we were in broke but they fixed it by the time we got back from the pool.

Another vote for Anaheim Plaza. HUGE pool. I will say this. It's about my limit for walking distance, although I suppose HoJo's is probably about the same.
As for the trip advisors on Quality Inn. Take it with a grain of salt. People get sooo pickey writing those. If it's the same price and THAT MUCH closer, I say take a chance if you want a hotel closer.

I agree about the taking it with a grain of salt thing. People have different ideas of what is/is not acceptable. Some people are super picky. Someone will always find something wrong with each and every hotel out there...even the super nice ones.

We're staying at Quality Inn for two nights at the begining of October as we couldn't get HoJo for our whole trip. We figured it was only for two nights - it can't be that bad and the location is great. People who right reviews for trip advisor and other such sites generally have had a bad experienece in order to prompt the review. It doesn't take into account the hundreds of people whose stay was uneventful but not so amazing that they had to shout about it.

We will also be staying at the Quality inn in Oct. Hojo has zero avail. and I really wanted to be in walking distance. With the money we save for the 4 nights there we can upgrade to AP's!!:thumbsup2 So we will be living with it. As long as there are no bed bugs, which I always check for at every hotel, and it is clean then I am ok with it. We can live without a pool since we are there for DL not the pool.

Yikes how do you check for bed bugs??
Anyway I booked Anaheim Plaza. It's just for one night. The rest of our trip will be at HoJos. :)

You can google bed bugs and find several places that will give you info. Warning do not do this if you have a weak stomache!!:scared:

My husband always laughs but he knows not to unpack anything until I check. I lift up the bottom sheet and look at the mattresses looking for reddish stains. I also look at the headboard and wall behind the bed. If there are stains that look like rust I ask for a new room. The rust like stains are usually left from the bugs, the bugs are too small to see really. Of course this quick look will not tell you if there are eggs but I have not had problems by doing this.

Honestly I have seen evidence of bugs twice and both times it has been in a 4 star hotel not a budget motel. Just because they are in one room does not mean that they are in all rooms.

Have a great trip!

I almost always stay at the Anaheim Plaza when I go to Disneyland. It's close enough to the park entrance .... the rooms are good sized ... and the staff has always been nice and accommodating. And of course the rates are not bad either. :)

You will see people who complain about the place, but some people are never satisfied. I had problems with a room on one of my stays.

The carpet in the room they gave me had been cleaned recently, but the room had not been properly aired out after. Needless to say, the room smelt ... err .. funky.

I went down to the front desk and (here is the key I believe for almost any situation) NICELY explained the problem. They took care of it right away. Even upgrading my room at no extra cost.

We went in March of this year, and stayed at the Quality Inn.

It really was not bad at all. Kind of small rooms, but they were clean. I was totally paranoid about bugs and such and even did the pre-room check. Nothing! Just because it is a cheap hotel doesn't necessarily mean that it is prone to bed-bugs, and vice versa. A while ago I heard reports of bed bugs at DLH. So... just check your room according to the various tips you can find online and you should be fine.

The Quality Inn, had a nice selection for breakfast, vending machines, laundry, small gift shop, in room safe, and a nice sized (dorm room size) refrigerator. The walk is just a little farther than HOJOs but I considered it very walkable. We had DS2 and DS1 at the time, and they were both in strollers so that made it nice. If we didn't have strollers it would have been a lot harder.

My opinion is that I am not there for the hotel/motel. I come to DLR for DLR. I want my room to be clean and to provide me with a space to bathe, sleep and feel safe. I got that from the Quality Inn. They did seem a little understaffed when I was there, but again, I do not go for the amenities and staff service. JMHO!

Just a little off topic... When did you book your hotel at HoJo 8/22-8/24? We're going there on 8/20, 8/23 - 8/25. I'm waititng and waiting for full Entertainiment rate open for 8/23 and still don't see it. Did we miss it already? I checked the website everyday for 3 weeks already. Right now, we book HoJo for 23 (full rate Ouch...) and 24, 25 with entertaintainment. And the 20th is still no room.....

Don't know what to do now....:scared:

I just stayd at Anaheim Inn Plaza from 8/3 - 8/7. It was well worth the rate they charge. I checked the mattress for bed bugs, as I do at all hotels and found no signs of them. This has nothing to do with the price of rooms usually by the way, Disney has had bed bugs in their 400 dollar/night rooms. They come from other guests, not lack of cleanliness. Anyway, API has small but functional rooms. The air conditioning worked very well in my room, and there was also a fridge in the room.

The pool was very nice, really big and a nice temperature. There is also a small hot tub, despite the reviews on this site that say there aren't. There definately is.

It is precisely one block from the entrance to Disneyland, a very brief walk, closer than Hojos I think. It's well within my limit for walking distance and there are only about 5 hotels closer. Denny's is on the way there if you want to stop for breakfast. The staff at the hotel was very polite. They also will hold your bags if your flight is later in the day and you want to go to disney on your last after checkout. We took advantage of this.

I was concerned about this hotel prior to going, but it was well worth the rate. We were stuck between this hotel and one at the 100 dollar price point, but ended up settling on this one. We weren't dissapointed.

Ive stayed at the Hojo and have no idea what the attraction is on these boards. With a 15 percent discount it will be nearly 115 dollars I believe for a regular room. Its not worth the difference as its basically a motel. The benefits of it over the cheaper places are probably the play ground for kids, and thats really about it. The fact they dont heavily discount their highway side rooms is ridiculous. It is further than AP or ramada maingate or a few other places that are cheaper. The room service is nothing stellar, they closed the better restaurant they had with buffet there years ago. The hilton frequently has rooms at nearly an idential rate to Hojos and its a far better hotel. I prefer the fairfield as well over it. I really think its a disboards thing as it seems always possible to get a room at Hojos on extremely short notice, but not so at many other places.

EnnEss, the "HoJo thing" on the DISboards is largely about the Entertainment Book rate. $59 for a standard room and $74 for a deluxe, recently renovated, park view room with a balcony. There is no other hotel within close walking distance that has such good rates for this level of hotel. And it is a hotel, with inside corridors, unlike the others at the crosswalks, which are all motels with outside corridors. It has a big pool at the back, then the elaborate new Castaway Cove water play area near the front by the jacuzzi. That's all there is to it. Well, that and the staff have been so incredibly friendly, helpful and nice to the DISboarders.

Julie, I doubt you'll get the Ent rate for a Saturday. They just usually don't have weekends available. Only rarely will you see a Sat. night at the Ent rate, unfortunately.

Call HoJo directly (not the 1-800 line) and ask for Lorealle. Tell her you heard about her from the DISboards, she knows us well! She posts here sometimes. Tell her your problem, and she will find the best rate for you for that night. At the very least she'll give you the 15% off DISboard rate.

Good luck!

Julie I got the entertainment rate at HOJOS' for Friday and Saturday (8/22 & 8/23) $59.00 a night. I booked a LONG time ago. I think I booked in February.

I think I made the right choice with Anaheim Plaza. Thanks everyone. My trip is NEXT WEEK!!! :)

I've never stayed at the hojo in anaheim, and probably never will. We'll be staying at the Anaheim Plaza (again) on our next trip. We really like it. And we love stopping at Denny's on the way to the park. Or afterwards for a snack before we go to the hotel.

Why is having a hotel with inside hallways better than a motel with outside doors? Typically rooms with doors to the outside have less noise inside. The doors are thicker and whatnot because of weather so you hear less noise outside your door. I HATE when I'm in a hotel and I can hear kids running down the hall.

Our "motel" at WDW had outside doors....and it was what they call a moderate resort. It was fantastic and incredibly quiet.
