Would you put vinyl flooring in your house on purpose?

We went floor shopping yesterday as a matter of fact! I fell in love with this - http://www.konectousa.com/products_...=terraslate&collection=Terra Slate Collection
ends up it is a vinyl tile that costs a fortune! I could have picked wood that was cheaper. We looked at Pergo too and a few different woods - still liked this best and it really went well with my ceramic tile in the kitchen. I have had it with carpet and we are ripping them all out.

I decorate my house based on my budget and what makes me comfortable. The latest thing is hardwood floors and ceramic tile. In 20 years, it will be carpet again. I've seen the trends come and go.

I get such a kick out of the show House Hunters. The young buyers saying that the can't think of purchasing a first home that doesn't have hardwood floors and stainless steel appliances. If they keep the homes long enough, the trends will change and they will not have the latest thing.

I ignore the trends and decorate according to my personal taste.

OP, if you like the idea of vinyl, go for it!

This is what we just installed in our kitchen. LOVE IT:thumbsup2!!

Which color did you install? We did the oak in the kitchen. When we were deciding what to put in the other rooms, we finally decided to go with the same. That way it flows completely from room to room and looks great.

Wow! I love that!

Ceramic isn't an option in my house. :) It's cold, it's slippery, it's hard on your feet/back and the grout looks permanently dirty.

We have vinyl and I love it. It's low maintenance and when it's washed, it looks brand new. We're replacing it this winter and it will be replaced with more sheet vinyl.

If you plan on being there for a long time, go with what you want. What we want doesn't matter. :goodvibes

We chose the Cordoba. We actually had our whole first floor redone. Hardwood in the living room and hall, the Allure in the kitchen and bathroom, and carpet in two other rooms. The local flooring company agreed to install the Allure for us because of doing our whole first floor. I would have bought the vinyl planking off of them, but everywhere we looked, nothing looked as nice and like real tile as what the Allure does.

Here is a pic of the floor the day the finished installation.

Just the word 'vinyl', eeww! We're redoing our master and laundry room with wood.

That looks great!

Now that I read so many are using it in their bathrooms, I may put it in there too where I also have cracked ceramic tile and pieces of grout coming out.

I wouldn't put vinyl tiles down, period. I've had them and hated them, plus I think they don't look good. You still have the seams between the tiles.

But I do like ceramic. If you get a dark colored grout, you don't have the dirty looking grout issue.

I would not do vinyl. We have tile throughout our house. I don't see how anything could be lower maintenance and we have light grout.

I agree- I have ceramic through the kitchen, and dining room and the bathroom has a different ceramic tile- super easy to keep clean

Never, ever, ever. I hate the look and in my experience, it is way harder to clean than tile. To each their own, but around here,no one uses it, that I know of.

I agree

I can't think of a house I have been in around here that didn't have at least some vinyl flooring. l.

I can't think of a house I have been to that had any vunyl flooring, at least in the past 10 years. Its ceramic, hardwood or the fake pergo stuff.

Cold?? Mine is so warm and toasty it feels great on bare feet! All you have to do is have radiant heat installed under them and they are soooooo warm!

I installed ceramic tile in my unheated mud room, and put the 'mesh' style electric heat under the tiles. I did it myself, and it was very easy. I love going out into the room in bare feet, the floor feels so toasty warm.

I also used a really good grout sealer, and put down three coats, and even in this high-dirt, high-traffic area, the grout is very east to clean.

I wouldn't do this in my kitchen though. I like the look of tile, but I would worry about dropping breakable stuff.

Radiant heat adds quite a significant cost to the project. ;) I don't like the look of tile and won't have it in any of my houses (in the future).

Wow. laundry room with wood, you are brave. Aren't you afraid of a leak and ruining your floor in the laundry room?

BTW, I agree with you on the vinyl. But to each their own.

The garage we converted shares a wall with our laundry room where a hot water heater is located. For some reason the heater started leaking and water poured into the family room. I was so happy that we had put the vinyl "wood" planks on the room. I vacuumed 40 gallons in the laundry room and twice that in the family room.
BTW, last night my son and his girlfriend came over for a visit. They never realized until then that the floor in the room was not real wood. The planks are grained and look great. Like others, we bought the planks at Home Depot.

I don;'t know that I'd call hardwood a "trend". My house is 60+ years old and had hardwood. Covering or unciovering the hardwood is really what the trend is.
