Would you push it or leave it alone? (re: class action rate)

The story: I have a 30% rack rate from the class action suit (no discussions about the validity of the suit, please, I didn't file it). It has allowed me to book a nicer, longer, and more expensive vacation than I would have without it.

I originally booked CBR 6/9-6/18 but didn't have flights. Now that I have flights, I'm trying to change it to 6/6-6/15. I called CRO and the CM says that CBR doensn't have availablity for my dates (neither do any of the mods, for that matter). The web site shows availablity, so I questioned it. He checked, and confirmed that there is availability, but not for my code.

My issue is that the letter I received with the discount code does not specify that availablity is limited, except for certain blackout dates. I tried this with the CM (actually, by then he had transferred me to another CM) and he said it wouldn't let him do it, and he doesn't make the rules.

I would think the limited availablility would be stated up front, and I assume it is with AAA and AP codes (at least it seems to be from what I've read here). For now, the CM's recommendation is to keep my ressie, and they will probably release more rooms at the discounted rate.

I tried to split my stay, but they'll only give me the discount on one resort, not two. That I don't get either, but I'm not going to push it because the letter does mention a "consecutive stay at one resort".

I was so nervous about finally booking flights that I even took flights at a bit higher cost than I had hoped, and now here I am without a resort!

I guess my worse case is that I book POP for four days paying full rack rate, then CBR for the remaining 5 nights at the discounted rate. Unless I can win a small sum on the lottery and just go with AKL for the whole stay!

Back to the question--would you push it, do you think I have a case to be made or should I just drop it and book it?

The letter doesn't matter, in the case of a class-action discount. Rather, the court-order is all that matters. What does the settlement say?

June seems to be really booked. At this late date I don't think they could change it. If it wasn't such a busy time they probably could. I'm not sure why you couldn't wait to buy airline tickets until you could make sure you could change you reservation? Again with it being such a busy time they can't just do wha we all want at the snap of a finger. There isn't enough pixie dust for that. pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: But here is a little to try and help out. Maybe they will have an opening. I am still hoping for an ap discount in june but it may not come. When I booked my AAA rate only some places had a AAA discount.

Did you call the regular CRO or the special number included with the letter. I have found the "special" number cm's much more helpful when booking my ressie. They got my CR ressie when the reguar CM couldn't. (yes, I have the letter as well and am taking the full 10 days worth advantage of it)

I would call back and see where you get. You can always ask.

BTW are you doing dining with it as well?

I forgot about the "special" number, but they transferred me there anyway. Didn't help at all. I've read the letter three times and still don't see anything about limited availablity at the special rate.

Yes, I do have dining, and that has created another problem that I'm going to post a seperate thread about. Today's CM (at the special number) confused me even more!

I may be opening a can of worms here, but did I miss this? Can someone point me to what class action suit we are talking about?

There's more details available if you do a search, but basically if you booked a trip on-line in a certain timeframe (it was 2003 for me), you were part of a class action suit where you didn't have an opportunity to opt out of travel insurance. One of the options of the settlement was 30% off rack rates.

Nice deal, but has turned out to be a little bit more of a pain than I anticipated. I can't find the details of the settlement on-line, either, and I don't have the original paperwork (only the certificate for the discount).

Thanks for filling us in! Good luck on using your certificate, I hope it all works out for you!

I too have gotten BURNED by this "deal". My thing was that I recieved THREE certificated that read the same on each stating I would recieve 30% off rack rates. I also recieved 3 free DVD's, and a magazine I believe. This was all included in the suit. Well, happy as a lark, I booked a 4 night stay at my dream resort- the poly last August and saved 30 % no problem. We always go to disney in June and so when I booked my reservations this time- 3 nights at the contemporary and 6 nights at the beach club I wanted to apply my other two certificates to each of these reservations. Even after faxing the certificated to some "mr. pittman??" in guest services and recieving a phone call from him stating I would be able to use my certificates, I was denied by the reservation CM. They stated since the reference number was the same on all three certificates and I used it once at the Poly, I could not use the other two certificates. My stay at the Poly stunk too and to know that I burned my certificate on a measly 4 night stay when we usually stay 10-11 nights in June really TICKED me off. Why was I sent three certificates if I could only use one?? Why was I told by the almighty "mr. pittman, judge of all discounts" that I could use them when in fact I could not. Yes, I am VERY hurt and upset to be treated this way as you can see in my post. If someone knows where any information on the web about the class action suit can be found, I would appreciate it as I too have only my certificates to go on.

Oh, and for the OP, sorry this happened to you. I know how you must feel. When I was attempting to book my two reservations with the discount (it's called the HUBER discount by the way- was informed this by the rude CM) she did tell me she would "have to check for avaliability" even though I had the room booked already and just wanted to apply the discount. So it seems that the resorts have only a select number of rooms to go for this discount. Disney gotta make the almighty dollars you know???!!!
Is driving an option for you? Perhaps you could change you flights? If it is this early they may not be a penalty?
Good luck :grouphug:

Without a physical copy of the settlement, you're just assuming what you're entitled to. It is no wonder, therefore, that there is a disconnect between what you want and what you're receiving. I recommend contacting the adminstrator of the class action lawsuit and getting the information you need so you can know what you're actually entitled to.

We too are going in December with the same deal, from what I understand, it works just like a PIN code in certain respects and there are only a certain amt of rooms allotted at each resort for each time period that a person could use. It took me a few days of calling to get the resort we wanted but I booked back in July of 2005 for my deluxe savannah room at AKL. Doing the dining plan with this has been no problem either. We are a party of 5 with 3 adults and 2 kids, and one member does not live in our house. They have been more than accomodating and we were able to book everything with out a problem. We reserved our airfare in January for our trip and we are good to go.

I am sorry about your problems, I would continue to call and see if you can get something. I would also recommend locking in airfare first and then book your trip.

Yeah, I usually do airfare first, too, but I just wanted to block something out while waiting for fares to come in. Turns out there were no good fares to be had. It's still worth it--I got really good flight times, and at the least I have CBR from 6/9-6/15 (and I get to go to SW weekends--yeah!).

They haven't budged an inch and no availability has freed up either. I even hinted around about staying off-property for the three days and going elsewhere--and she started making recommendations for Sea World and Cape Canaveral--LOL. So much for them caring if I take my greenbacks elsewhere. :rotfl2:

I just booked POP room-only rack rate for 6/6-6/9. No big deal, that will be fun too. No dining--that's OK, too. We'll just get real hungry for Friday. :rotfl2:

Do you have AAA could you get that discount on those days? Would it be worth it to join AAA for those 3 days to save? In Arkansas it is only 51.00 to join. that might help out a little...if you go thru AAA to book you can get the dining plan with it.

babby ...
We too got three cert. but our reference numbers on each are different. We used one last Dec. for POP and are using two this May/June for CBR without any problems (I hope.) Did you get three cert. because of three seprate trips you took during the travle times covered under the suit or did you just get three copies of the same cert. because of only one vacation?
I remember filling out three seprate forms (one for each qualified vacation we took over that time period.) You could only get one coupon per qualified vacation no matter how many adults were on that vacation (we took three seprate vacations so we got three seprate coupons and three DVD's.)

I got one certificate and no DVD's. I thought it was a choice of one of the 3 options based on availability of the items when you responded. I sent mine in right away so I could get the disc.

We booked pkg for trip in June of '03 but don't remember hearing or receiving anything pertaining to class action suit??

Probably thought it was junk mail & shredded it.:guilty:
