Would you pay an extra $1300…

To move from contemporary garden room/water view to main tower water view?

It’s a lot of money but a special vacation for us - I don’t think it’s worth it….but maybe I’m missing something?? I know our kids have dreamed of main tower.

We really don't care about the view when we have a balcony. My favorite balcony at WL was the one looking over the back service area, I liked watching the chefs going to the smokehouse, liked the 'back stage' aspect, and had a view of the MK fireworks. At Yacht Club our balcony overlooked the porte cochere and it was great.

When the kids were little we liked the 1st floor Contemporary garden rooms because the kids could run around and play outside.

Really though, who am I trying to kid, I'd probably do it.

We are there for 6 nights.

I think the kids just want the view INSIDE the tower.

This may already be on your radar, but one thing that would factor into my consideration with a sort of longish trip is that the second and third floors of the Garden Wing don’t have balconies (just sliding doors with the railing right up against the opening). Not sure the ages of your kids but we really like a balcony/patio as another place to be/sit/relax at times over the course of a stay. Again, an opinion in the minority, but a guaranteed balcony in the tower over the 1/3 chance of a first floor patio in the Garden Wing would have some impact on my calculations.

In this economy, no. In the past I would have. You could probably find something special to do for less than $1300. A nice meal or two, a tour, a special ticket event, etc.

Obviously the tower is more desirable, which is why it costs more. Tower rooms overlook the atrium/ concourse from the exterior and have a balcony. Plus, you can hear the rumble/ vibration of the monorail. You can’t beat that ambiance! It’s also more convenient for the monorail and QS dining.

The wings have their convenience, too - if you have a car it’s much faster to your room. It’s also closer to the busses, MK walkway and pool/ activity complex.

But you have your answer - it’s a lot of money to you and you don’t think it’s worth it. I agree that the $$ can be better spent, or saved.

Yes, I think we decided that the money would be better spent elsewhere. It helps to think it may be loud or difficult with the elevators. Maybe one day, but I believe we will stay put. Thank you all so much!

No! I’ve stayed in the main tower and the elevators are small and get backed up. You get a lot of noise from the concourse and Chef Mickey’s. Save the money and put it towards another trip!

No. We stayed in the main tower water view. The view is amazing, I'll give it that but the main building is incredibly noisy and you can hear it when you get close to your door. The elevators are insanely slow and there never seemed to be more than two working at any one time. If we stay CR again, we'll either stay BLT or the garden wing.

CR's one of my favorite resorts, and I just don't like the "MK View." It's almost all parking lot, with a park in the far distance. Ugh. I much prefer the Bay Lake view, just so beautiful and there's actually something to look at (the lake, WL, the pool/marina, etc.) that you actually want to look at.

I don't see the value in upgrading (you didn't say how many nights you're staying), as you're getting the same exact room, and there are some really nice views from there too. If you have a car, the South Wing parking lot is also especially convenient.

When we stayed at Contemporary we had a lake view and far more to see/enjoy when sitting on the balcony. We never had an issue with noise from the Atrium, but perhaps that relates to which side of the building you are on or what floor.

I would say no, but that's because I don't particularly care for the CR, except for two things: the Mary Blair mural and the monorail. So I wouldn't drop $1,300 for a better view/room. Split it between the kids' 529 accounts or use the money to provide a special experience at the parks (AK has a lot of them, or if they are 16+, KttK is awesome). But with all of this being said, we have DVC and we are using our points to book 2BRs rather than 1BRs and DSs. So I can't fault you for wanting better accommodations. Plus, $1,300 is a lot for some people and pocket change for others. Only you know how much $1,300 is worth.

No - and I only say that because we actually liked the garden wingrooms (water view) better than the tower
rooms. Quieter and less chaotic

I'm surprised to hear so many say they prefer the garden wing. I would go for the tower every time. I find the garden wing to be so much further away, and I hate the long outside walk to get there. I love being in the tower right in the middle of all the action!

I hear you. I do love that too. And I’m generally not bothered by noise.

But there is just something so dang appealing about those Garden Wing rooms. :goodvibes

That's exactly why I don't like it. Too loud, too busy, elevator situation too annoying. The garden wing gets me access to what I do like about CR (the location, the on site dining) without all of that, and at a much cheaper cost. The only way I'd ever stay in the tower is if it was CL tbh.

Probably the only view I'd pay extra for at any WDW resort is Savannah view at AKL.

So for the main tower, it is nicer to be rich there where the amenities are for convenience alone. However it also makes the resort feel more hectic to me. You walk out your door and you are straight in the hustle and bustle of it all with Chef Mickey roaring, and all the crowds getting on/off the monorail. With the Garden wing you have a chance for more relaxation, while being only a couple minutes walk to the action. Granted that walk gets a little more burdensome after a long day at the park, especially in the heat of summer.

I would not. I loved the garden view rooms because they are quite spacious

I know you said you will stay put. Are the kids young? If so they would love the tower, they are only young for a short time. If you can swing it do it.

I must be getting old - when I hear ‘Middle of all the Action’ - it translates into ‘Middle of all the NOISE’! 🤪
