To move from contemporary garden room/water view to main tower water view?

It’s a lot of money but a special vacation for us - I don’t think it’s worth it….but maybe I’m missing something?? I know our kids have dreamed of main tower.

If it's just a view of Bay Lake, I would say no. That's a lot of money for a view of the lake. I could see it maybe being worth it if it was a MK view...but even then $1,300 is a lot of meals/drinks etc. While not the Contemporary proper, we have stayed at BLT close to 10x since purchasing our DVC there. The times we've stayed lake view it was a nice view....but for a week's stay I wouldn't have paid $1300 for it over say a standard parking lot view.

I know many here consider the view an extremely important part of their resort experience. I am not one of them.

We actually ended up loving the garden wing when we stayed there. I thought we'd miss being in the main tower, but we really didn't. We spend so much of our time in the parks that while I do love a good view, the amount of money does matter since we're not in the room very much. The view out of our garden wing patio was beautiful and peaceful. For that amount of money, I'd maybe plan a few special meals.

No. I don’t pay for views when I’m at Disney as I just don’t spend much time in the room, so no way in the world would I pay 4 figures for a view no matter what the kids were dreaming of.

Those who pay for the CR tower do so for things like coffee on the balcony, convenience of being in the tower or watching fireworks from the room (theme park only obvs). Only you can determine if that is worth $1300.

"Worth it" is so subjective. It may be for some and others not. $1300 is a lot, you could do some really fun things with that money. Maybe a fireworks cruise, dinner at Cali grill, Horseback riding at FW, Hoop de doo review. You could probably do most of those for the price difference. So it really depends on what matters to you the most.

We love the MK view rooms (even though the parking lot is in the foreground ), but I doubt we’d pay $1300 more for one. So the same would hold true for a lake view. We often stayed in the garden wings (they were still two of them way back when) on our early WDW trips and actually enjoyed being in a separate building. The tower is very nice, but the elevators can be a real pain. But I know that many folks prefer the tower, even with the added expense.

However, you stated this is for a special vacation and that might be a perfect “excuse” to splurge. If it’s not a huge stretch money-wise, it might be a great decision. As a previous poster stated, there are a plethora of ways to splurge at WDW. Enjoy your trip whatever you decide!

I vote no for main tower. I’ve never stayed there though as I also can’t seem to justify the splurge. The garden rooms are very nice and still give you that nice proximity to monorail/walking path to MK.

How many nights? 1300 seems like a lot, but if it's spread over a week or so, maybe not terrible? I'm not a huge contemporary fan, so I don't think I'd switch into the tower unless they paid me.

Of course I did spend a billion dollars on TPV at the Polynesian, so obviously I can spend the money when i want to.

I'd save the money. You will be in and out of the tower if you use the monorail or dining. Another option is do the first 4 days in the garden wing and then move to the tower for your last 3 days so you can try both.

Definitely not. We actually would pay more for the garden view wing than the main tower if that were an option lol. Glad it is not. We LOVE garden wing!! Close enough to everything but much quieter and super laid back!

How many nights?

Feedback around here generally slants to the practical / save the money / stick the Garden Wing approach. And Garden Wing certainly has its fans for good reason.

But not going to lie - I’m a tower guy and don’t mind paying for views. But I’m also not a park commando out of the room all the time. For me, the room is an important part of the experience. That’s generally not the majority opinion though!

We are there for 6 nights.

I think the kids just want the view INSIDE the tower.

I've never stayed at the Garden Wing rooms, but always wish I could. Stayed at the Tower only once last year. It was okay, but the one thing I did not like was the occasional noise & music from Chef Mickey's restaurant at all sorts of odd times. To me it seemed like having a plain old hotel room next to the lobby. But that's just me. As others have said, this decision is very personal. Nonetheless, if I were in your shoes, I'd stay at the tower simply for the benefit of your kids and their memories of your trip long after you've forgotten how much it cost. But again, that's just me. Good luck deciding.

I vote for tower. We've stayed in both. I loooove having a balcony, and being right in the middle of all the action! It's nice to go down to the restaurants without walking outside.

My DH likes the finer things... and dislikes when he can SEE someone else has a better thing. We never stay club level, and it's no problem because you don't really see it. When we stayed in the Garden Wing, every time we rode the monorail, it was, "how much more would it have cost to stay in the tower?" Especially if it was raining!

We've had theme park view which was awesome and lake view which wasn't that great. No, I would not spend extra for either.

No, don't think the view is worth that much extra. Honestly, even though it costs more, I think the MK view from the tower is mostly a view of a parking lot and you can basically see the tops of the tallest MK structures. In that example, the lake view is preferable even though cheaper. If you are already staying at the Contemporary, $1,300 extra won't be worth it to be in the main tower.
