????Is it really worth it? We would be paying 415 dollars extra each way just to add on a bedroom for a grand total of 1558.00 just to go to Disney (including car) from Ct. I think I should have stuck with the coach seats for under 700. :( But, I may be well rested to start the trip :rotfl:

I have one booked and am planning to cancel..

We take the train for the experience, DH hates not to be able to sleep, hence I booked the room. But I thought I can have better use for the over $400 , hence have now talked DH into agreeing to drop the room.

Man sometimes dh's put a damper on the trip planning...mine has so many stipulations....:rotfl::rotfl:

I have read on the DIS of a lot of families taking the train this year since airfares are so high in order to save money but that surely is not saving money. I booked 4 tickets Jet Blue for $977 and I would rather fly 2hrs than spend 24 hours on a train anyday.

Honestly I would spend the $400 and have a happy, well rested hubby instead of a grumpy, sleep deprived one.

Well, if it was a make or break it situation financially, I'd skip it. Otherwise, its vacation, its a Long train ride, get the room= Happy Hubby;)!!

My husband won't fly...:(

I would definately opt for the sleeper car then, I did a trip from Kentucky to Washington DC that was 12 hours and was so tired and worn out, the second leg of my journey was another 4 or 6 hours I forget which now for sure to Connecticut and I may never ride a train again for that long , I was miserable so much so in fact, I talked my ex to drive me back to Ohio instead of taking the train even though I had purchased round trip tickets :rotfl:

FWIW, even though it's just a small savings amount, please note that meals are included on the Auto Train when you purchase a room accomodation.

Prices vary on the room charge, just like they do on the airlines. On days when there is more demand the prices are higher, and on any day the prices incease as the rooms are filled.

Neither will I.:sad2:But that's another story. Just booked the Auto Train this morning for 3 adults. Our bedroom was only $289. What time are year are you going? We're headed down in December. Surprisingly my DH is thrilled about it. Mr. just close your eyes and fly and in and less than 3 hours you're there.:rolleyes1I'm looking forward to the adventure of it all.oops...just caught your ticker. Maybe it's more because it's summer and a greater demand?

Maybe a stupid question...........why not drive and down if he won't fly? Seems like a lot of $$$ being spent when driving wouldn't cost nearly that much, IMO. And would only be a 2 day drive from CT I believe.

We are taking the train. I have no desire to be cooped up in a car while he drives for so long :) On the train at least you can get up and walk around, while someone else is doing the driving, so it's settled.:thumbsup2

If you have young children you should definately pay for the room. You wouln't be able to sleep in your seat for worrying abou them.

Slightly OT but for those trying to save $ vs. flying, Spirit has some great deals. Friends of ours, a family of 5, just added on to our Sept trip to USO for the new Harry Potter section.
Grand total round trip: $373 yes, for all 5 and both ways are non stop. :thumbsup2
There are great deals out there if you can be flexible with dates and jump when you find them.

So it looks like I just paid $415 for a bedroom on our way back North. My DH got his brand new Amtrak Rewards Master Card and wanted to upgrade from coach on the way home. Soooo....yes, it jumped from $289 to $415. I did hear from an op that if the price goes down between now and our trip we can rebook without penalty and save some money. The op saved $300 by rebooking. When I was watching the site last year at this time, I do seem to remember that the prices were lower closer to what would have been our time of travel. It's worth a shot, right?:goodvibes
