Would you make a 6 year old take a nap...

I would not insist but I'd sure make sure her bedtime
came back to a reasonable time and I'd enforce a rest
time or quiet time during the day.

I would just try to get into bed earlier at night. If she starts relying on naps during the day it's going to be that much harder on her at school during the year.

We did this last night and had her in bed by 8pm. When I said we were getting to bed later, I didn't mean 10 or anything. The latest would be 9 or 9:30. Her normal bedtime in school was 8pm so we are going to try that again. She had that nap on the couch yesterday and I put her down at 8. So far today, her mood has been good but I bet around nap time she will start to get whiny and cranky. Even when she WAS in school though she was being grumpy. I just can't see putting her in bed at 7pm! Her dad doesn't get home until 5:30 and she is out playing with friends during that time too. It seems like there is never enough time in a day!

Side Note: How did elliott's trip to the surgeon turn out?

He is scheduled for surgery July 13th :( Just 4 days after he turns 2. I'm trying to keep my mind off of it. :scared:

All three of my kids had to have quiet time in their bedrooms until they went to school full time. All mine were good sleepers, they used to nap from 2 to 5 every afternoon. My friends used to accuse me of drugging them! I would have been insane otherwise, I had 3 in 4 years. I used to make my oldest go to his room and pretend to take a nap until the other two went down then he could come out and play queitly. We still laugh about that, he is now 14.

Is she getting a restful sleep at night? If she is not, putting her to bed a 5:30 pm might not even help.

A co-worker's granddaughter suffered from sleep apnea and ended up having her enlarged tonsils removed at age 5. Sadly, it had already affected her growth at that point. :(

My mom STILL talks about my lack of nap taking. If I got cranky, though, I was sent ot my room. No TV, few toys, etc. She'd find me asleep on the bed within 10 minutes. That's a tough age. Not a baby, but still needs teh extra sleep sometimes. So, if she can be up and not be cranky, let her go. As soon as she gets cranky, though, send her too her room. Just my $0.02.

I wasn't trying to say that you were putting her to bed that late, I was saying what I thought. I'm sorry I offended you.

Oh no! You didn't offend me at all! I just wanted to make it clear that I'm not putting her to bed at midnight or something and then wondering why she is tired. ;)
