Would you like to see DVC go non-smoking?

Please keep in mind that non-smoking means every room at every DVC resort.

I am not trying to start a war between smokers and non-smokers, I am rather trying to get a feel for preferences. Keep in mind that when I say non-smoking DVC, I mean every room at every DVC resort.

This might give us an indication of what is coming down the road.

I am voting 'non-smoker; wants non-smoking DVC'

Thanx....

I voted non-smoking, optional. Even "refreshed" a couple times, still not registering.

While I would LOVE all the units to be nonsmoking since my family (esp. my daughter)has allergies, I voted that we should have smoking optional. The reason being that if there were no smoking optional units, I think alot more smokers would be inclined to smoke in the nonsmoking units making it more likely that I would get a unit that has been smoked in. My daughter would have problems arrise from that, and I would hate for it to ruin her/our vacation.

Poll worked fine for me.I think DVC and WDW resorts will eventually be all non-smoking in the future. Also, I read on another post that someone stayed at another hotel that was totally non-smoking, and if you smoked in the room, they had a $300 charge added to your credit card bill for a cleaning. I think that would stop quite a few people from "sneaking a smoke" in their room.

I would think that a smoker who checked into a totally non smoking hotel would have the brains to honor the rules.
If they did not, then the 300.00 fee would definitely teach them a lesson.

That is indeed something to think about. If it went non smoking it would also ruin peoples' vacations. We all joined knowing full well that there were smoking optional and non smoking buildings.
If it bothered the non smokers that there were smoking optional buildings, you should not have joined. Now, you are members and it is a bit late to change the rules. I would say you would have a true gripe IF people were smoking in the non smoking units. But, to try to dictate that smokers cannot smoke in an optional building is taking things a bit too far. It is a legal activity.

I'm only using IE so I don't know what happened..no biggie.

As for my opinion: If a smoker went thru the the DVC presentation and was told there are no smoking units,I doubt they would have purchased. I think it is unfair,(and possibly unlawfull, but let's not get into that), to now tell them they can't smoke. And like others have said- do we really think they will no smoke in a non-smoking unit. Even if they didn't smoke in the room, I'm sure those with sensitivities to smoke can tell if a smoker has been in a room long after they have left. Their body & clothes usually wreeck of smoke anyway.

Gail,
Just wondering, if they had "the brains", then why do they smoke, knowing all the negative drawbacks of it?

i think it should stay smoke optional, i am a smoker but i go out on the balcony and smoke. as for if we had brains why would we smoke, i personally dont think it is a concern to noone but myself why i smoke, it is me who is going to pay for what i am doing to myself, i just think that comment was very rude and uncalled for, i dont ask people that i see that weighs 300lbs and shoveling food in their mouth if they dont have brains enough to know what they are doing to them, i know that they are the ones that will pay for it not me. as long as i can afford to buy my cigarettes and want to smoke that is my choice and noone else.

Misty,
Second hand smoke does affect other"innocent people", eating food doesn't affect somebody sitting next to you or on a balcony below you.

i do not smoke where you are not suppose to, and if they allow smoking somewhere i am going to smoke, but if they dont allow it i will not smoke. i am not going to stay at home just because there are people out there that do not like cigarette smoke.

I appreciate you and other smokers that follow the rules, but there are others that are inconsiderate and rude when it comes to smoking.

Smokers are DVC members and have paid for their memberships and pay their dues just like non smokers. and smokers have just as much right to enjoy their villa as non smokers do. As long as there are both smoking optional villas and non smoking villas there is something for everyone and that is the way it should remain and I am sure that is the way it will remain. If a smoker books a smoking optional villa they have every right in the world to smoke where ever they please in their villa including the balcony. If there is a non smoking villa on a floor above the smoking optional balcony that is not the smokers fault that is just poor planning on Disney's part. I have said it before Disney should make all the smoking optional villas on the top floors since smoke rises. As someone else posted if Disney ever made all the DVC resorts non smoking this will just have people smoking in the villas anyway, so then everyone would be affected - smokers and non smokers! As far as the Cal hotel in Disneyland being non smoking that hotel has been nonsmoking since it opened and guests are informed of this before they book rooms there, DVC units were sold to members with the understanding that for smokers there are smoking optional villas--you can not just change midstream, especially when you have smokers that have spent thousands of dollars on their memberships and have every right to smoke in their smoking optional villa just as non smokers have every right to book a non smoking villa.
I do not want to start a debate and I understand there are those that have medical allegeries to smoke but there are also non smokers that carry things a little too far. I was at WDW a little over a week ago and was in a smoking area in one of the parks with a friend that wanted to have a cigarette. This was a nice area in Epcot with benches and unbrellas and some very nice shade, there were several people sitting there smoking and talking and just enjoying themselves when this woman comes up and sits down on one of the benches. She sat there for about 1 minute and then had the nerve to tell a man sitting next to her to put out his cigarette because she is allergic to smoke! The man proceeded to tell her this was a smoking area and if she was bothered by the smoke she should move. The woman got all bent out of shape and said she wanted to sit there because it was one of the few spots that had shade and a bench!!!!! Needless to say the man did not put out his cigarette and the woman went and got a CM who also told her very politely that this was a smoking area and if she did not want to smell the smoke to please move. I am sorry, but this whole thing was ridiculous! Non smokers do not have any more rights than smokers do when smokers are smoking in designated areas but sometimes they think they do!

I think it's a shame people can't state opinions on this matter and be treated with respect.

I voted non smoker/smoking optional because I think it would be unfair to change it now. I would have no problem if new DVC resorts were completely non-smoking, though.

I'm sure many have strong feelings on this, myself included. However, I am going to keep my thoughts to myself, as the intent of the thread/poll was to find out preferences...not start WWIII.

I am not sure I agree with the premise here. Let me first say that I feel that one smoking in a smoking permitted area, villa, etc is just fine and that's all I'd ever expect from smokers. To say that DVC was sold as a smoking option is not correct. There is no mention of smoking or non smoking that I recall from the legal paperwork. Any information misleadingly given by a guide or any statement was to how it was at the time would carry no legal weight as to future smoking options. I'm sure most just assumed and never asked. If DVC goes all non smoking, which I doubt, smokers would have the choice to deal with the situation or sell. The choice would be theirs. Chosing to smoke in a non smoking villa should not be an option. I could definitely agree to a fine for smoking in non smoking areas, especially in a non smoking villa, even if they were all non smoking.

Dean is right, there is no mention anywhere in the contract that we signed, of "smoking" or "non smoking", so that means DVD(DVC) could make all Resorts "non smoking" if they choose to do so.
