Would you like Member Lounges?

Would you like to have a "lounge" at your home resort that DVC members could use?

Maybe with a soda machine, snacks, etc.

Maybe they could work it so it wouldn't increase our dues-a fee for use or something.

We could chit chat with other members, plan upcoming trips, etc.

I think that this is a wonderful idea.

BTW-approximately what percentage of occupants at any resort are DVC? I know that this depends on a lot of variables,including resort, time, etc. The only concern would be that most of the resort visitors are actually DVC so the lounge would really be for most everyone and maybe overcrowded.

I still like the idea of a lounge--like concierge, but not as pricey--a nice place to meet, get a drink, etc.

I don't think I'd use a lounge at the resort but I'd love one at the parks. If they could set it up like the old AP lounges but make it just for DVC, I'd definitely use it.

Yes, I would love a 'pay per stay' lounge. I would like to see it as a concierge level lounge, with snacks and drinks etc...

Community Hall (at least the one at BWV) is geared towards kids and games. Not very conducive to sitting around and chatting with other adults.

I've found places like the Iron Spike room at VWL to be a nice gathering place, though they serve no food or drinks there. And I've had some nice conversations with people there, as most seem to be members.

I don't know an exact percentage but the vast majority would be members or people using member points (with resort cards that say DVC member) since the resorts are sold-out. While it would be less than 96% (vs. 4% owned by Disney) due to trade outs, it would still be very high.

Every resort does already have a "lounge". They seem to be rarely used. It might be a nice idea to have refreshments available to encourage using the rooms.

The lounge at HH was very nice. Cookies and lemonade available nearby in the afternoon, coffee available in the morning along with newspapers. I spent a fair amount of time there even though we only had a one night stay (part of it is that we were doing laundry around the corner as we had a studio).

I like palmtreegirls idea. A special place at the parks would be ideal.

If Disney has changed it for the AP folks, I guess we shouldn't even dream that far.

I doubt we'd visit such a lounge at a WDW DVC resort, and it would be just another thing that needs policing and management so the unwashed masses don't crash the party. It would also cut into the resort concessions sales.

While we'd love a lounge in the parks, I don't see it happening anytime soon, if at all. Much like any other perk, there's nothing for Disney to gain by offering it and it would only increase dues since we'd be the corporation sponsoring it.

OKW has the community hall. Not real attractive, but it's homey. I would like it if they made it more upscale and themed like the resort. But please NO COKE MACHINES.

The lounging areas at BCV are beautiful! The aren't restricted but they're usually empty.


I would LOVE a lounge at the parks but I doubt it will happen. If they can sell the points anyway why should they offer that perk?

EDIT Maybe if they start to see DVC members going to other attractions they will think about such a lounge -- I just read the "9 days at OKW" thread. I would be willing to pay a fee for access to a DVC-only lounge at the parks. It would be a great extension of the "home away from home" privilege we have, and I think part of that benefit is being able to escape the crowds at the DVC resorts -- at least OKW is that way.

2) We bought an interest in a timeshare, not in Disney.
3) I don't think they owe us anything but a nice resort.

People keep asking for privileges and discounts.
We knew what we bought, but greed keeps raising its head.
We bought a timeshare, that's all.
We were not promised anything else.
It might be on Disney property, but it is still just a timeshare.
Why do people think we are special. just because we own DVC?

HERE HERE! I SO agree with you! I paid for a timeshare that is MORE than generous with the perks it has given us in the past. Just because it happens to be on WDW property, it is still a timeshare, and buyers should not expect it to be more than that. Disney is in the timeshare business to promote their parks. If we were not already addicted to the parks, we wouldn't (or shouldn't) be owning a timeshare there.

I got so caught up in reading and responding to Rustyscupper's post, I forgot to make my own comment!

No, I do not think a member's loung is necessary. Since in our case (OKW), the whole resort is DVC, I can find and meet with other members outside our unit, on the bus, at HH, and at the Tuesday Members meeting. That seems to be plenty for me. The rest of the time, I am on vacation at my timeshare. I do what most people do on vacation in their timeshares.....I relax and enjoy!

PERSONAL EDITORIAL: My apology. but this response is garbage in my opinion, whether it's labeled personal editorial or not. The OP raised a polite question along the lines of "would you like...." and then pseudo poetry is used by a poster to call it greedy. Nobody said anyone "owed" us anything or "promised" anything, it was a simple "would you like...."

ON TOPIC: I doubt I'd use on DVC site lounges beyond what we already use our home resort lounges. The inside the park lounge sounds like a neat idea, don't know how often we'd use it. But I like that your asking the question, seems a nice idea to discuss and hear other people's views.

Thank you CaptainMidnight. I agree there is no greed in asking for member views on a possible service or facility. It is a great way to see if there is interest in something.

I know what I bought. If all DVC did was continue to provide the great collection of first rate resorts, I would be very content with my purchase.

As I stated before, I would be interested in hearing more about lounges in the resorts and/or at the parks. I suspect that I might use park lounges more, but I really don't know. If it required a separate fee, I might still be interested. Much would depend on the details.
