I don't think it would happen that often to swipe your card for some one. I mean how often are you at the grocery store?
Oh please, asking someone to use the plastic shoppers card is not even in the same universe as asking for a lipstick.
We went away for the weekend. We stopped for a few items for the car ride home. We did not have a store card as that chain of grocery stores is not in our area.
The cashier would not run one through and the woman in front of us was almost "nasty" sounding and told us "NO".
I always offer my card when I see someone without it and cashiers also offer.
So my question is - Do you or would you let someone use your card for the discount and what state do you live in?
Thanks for answering.
I borrow and lend mine freely. People here ask regularly, even the cashier will ask if he/she doesn't have one.
I'm amazed that there are people out there that actually know what their grocery store's policy regarding discount cards are.
Frankly the whole shopper's card thing aggravates the heck out of me. Advertised weekly ad prices should be the price that rings up at the register, no strings attached, not contingent upon signing up for a new source of spam.
Nothing about these boards amaze me anymore![]()
The fact that this thread even has a turkey angle is pretty amusing7. I've honestly never thought about the turkey angle.

Actually in my local grocery store cashiers do have a card they can use to provide the discount.. If you don't have a card with you at the checkout it's because you don't want one as you can always get your discount by typing in your phone # if you forgot your card. Cashiers don't have a card they scan if you don't have one, you're free to open one on the spot if you want one and it just takes a minute. This is at 4 national or large east coast regional chains I shop in DC suburbs. Some people don't want these cards (no idea why) so it's not a big deal if one isn't used, you just forego the benefits. No big deal.

I did actually have a Kroger card, just didn't have it with me. I was having one of my "minimalist" kicks where I didn't want to carry around a lot of extra stuff with me. I got the bright idea to put all those "keychain cards" on ONE lanyard and keep it in the glovebox of my car. That idea works great until you are riding with somebody else.
Now that I've read the whole thread...

This whole thread is cracking me up. I'm tempted to spend my weekend at the store asking people to use their loyalty card just so I can see what they'd say because now I'm kind of curious. If they say yes, then I'll make my move and ask for their lipstick.

I have an app on my iphone where I have all my card info so I don't have to carry them all around!
I would absolutely let someone use my card- it doesn't cost me anything and it is a no-brainer to let them swipe it for someone else-its not like I am giving them my debit card or anything, I can't imagine being so rude to say "no". Wow, I can't believe the bug some people get up their butts about such petty things![]()
I probably wouldn't shop at a store that was strict about their discount card. Let's face it. I could walk into a store once, sign up for the card to get the discount and never go back again. And I have when travelling. Got the card, used it once, have never stepped foot into the store since. Finally got a break at work; that's why I'm late replying. About a year ago the local Shop Rite got really strict about the use of their loyalty cards. No lending to the person ahead of you in line, no keying in your phone number if you forgot yours, etc. I don't know the reason for the change. I suppose they got burned somehow in the past. In the past I've lent mine to a stranger, and someone scanned theirs for me at a CVS when I forgot mine. But for a 50 cent discount at a store I don't frequent, nah, I wouldn't ask, and would probably decline if someone asked me. Jim
