Would you lend your shoppers card to someone in line?

I don't think it would happen that often to swipe your card for some one. I mean how often are you at the grocery store?

At the beach, most cashiers will swipe for us since we don't have that chain locally. I'd have no issue swiping for someone. I really don't see how it would be a problem. Plus in my chain, we get fuel points based on purchases so it'd be a win win imo.

Exactly! Not even remotely the same thing. I would not even think twice about letting someone use my card. No big deal at all.

Oh please, asking someone to use the plastic shoppers card is not even in the same universe as asking for a lipstick.

Yes I don't care. I don't care if it was 50 cents or $50. I have actually had a cashier ask if another customer could use. No big deal to me. :confused3

Heck yes I would and do.

Sometimes, regular customers forget their cards. A couple months ago, I had a rental car so my card was on my car's key ring at the shop. The cashier who knows me as a frequent customer used her own card.

If the person in front of me has forgotten and doesn't have one, I volunteer mine. Not a big deal.

I was asked by Cashier if I had such and such card so she could scan it for person in front of me ( why I have no idea) I handed over card after I found it on hubs keys that I was using that night. I don't think this store has cards on hand for instant sign up anymore or maybe she was to lazy to walk over to service desk to get one for customer. I just know I was tired wanted to get my crap and go home.

We went away for the weekend. We stopped for a few items for the car ride home. We did not have a store card as that chain of grocery stores is not in our area.

The cashier would not run one through and the woman in front of us was almost "nasty" sounding and told us "NO".

I always offer my card when I see someone without it and cashiers also offer.

So my question is - Do you or would you let someone use your card for the discount and what state do you live in?

Thanks for answering.

I have only read this first post - yes, i always offer my card when someone doesn't have one and so far so good the same has been offered to me. Sounds like a store i may not want to frequent. Sorry.

I borrow and lend mine freely. People here ask regularly, even the cashier will ask if he/she doesn't have one.

I'm amazed that there are people out there that actually know their grocery store's discount card policy.

Nothing about these boards amaze me anymore :lmao:

Frankly the whole shopper's card thing aggravates the heck out of me. Advertised weekly ad prices should be the price that rings up at the register, no strings attached, not contingent upon signing up for a new source of spam.

Me too!

When I lived in IN and shopped at Kroger I would let people use my card if they needed one. I've also let people use my CVS card. I don't see the big deal.

I know! And I can't believe I read all of the posts. Lol.

One of the large groceries stores by me wouldn't let me use my card for the woman in front of me. It would have saved her alot of money. Can't remember how much but it was significant. The cashier was just being a biotch. After the customer left mad the cashier said it wouldn't be fair for me to get those gas points. Really? I told her I didn't buy my gas there anyway.

This store printed out the customer's name on the receipt. I guess that would be a reason not to share your card. This was a Safeway store. They all closed down in my area so it's a moot point. I try not to shop at stores with loyalty cards anyway. What a pain!

Now that I've read the whole thread...
7. I've honestly never thought about the turkey angle.
The fact that this thread even has a turkey angle is pretty amusing :lmao:

:thumbsup2

This whole thread is cracking me up. I'm tempted to spend my weekend at the store asking people to use their loyalty card just so I can see what they'd say because now I'm kind of curious. :lmao: If they say yes, then I'll make my move and ask for their lipstick. ;)

::yes::. If you don't have a card with you at the checkout it's because you don't want one as you can always get your discount by typing in your phone # if you forgot your card. Cashiers don't have a card they scan if you don't have one, you're free to open one on the spot if you want one and it just takes a minute. This is at 4 national or large east coast regional chains I shop in DC suburbs. Some people don't want these cards (no idea why) so it's not a big deal if one isn't used, you just forego the benefits. No big deal.
Actually in my local grocery store cashiers do have a card they can use to provide the discount.

I'm in Maryland. I freely offer up Jenny's number should anyone seem to be missing a card, including me since I refuse to easily provide my personal information to the marketers.

Yes, I absolutely would. A few years ago I had an incident at Kroger (in Illinois) where I didn't have a card with me. I tried to check out and the cashier wouldn't do it for me, and there was nobody else in line. My mom was with me, and she got angry. We ended up just leaving and not buying anything. One of those things where we didn't have a lot of time and didn't feel like signing up (again).

I did actually have a Kroger card, just didn't have it with me. I was having one of my "minimalist" kicks where I didn't want to carry around a lot of extra stuff with me. I got the bright idea to put all those "keychain cards" on ONE lanyard and keep it in the glovebox of my car. That idea works great until you are riding with somebody else.

I have an app on my iphone where I have all my card info so I don't have to carry them all around!

I would absolutely let someone use my card- it doesn't cost me anything and it is a no-brainer to let them swipe it for someone else-its not like I am giving them my debit card or anything, I can't imagine being so rude to say "no". Wow, I can't believe the bug some people get up their butts about such petty things :confused3

LOL, you would fit right in in NJ!!! ;)

I will definitely have to check on that, if it has Kroger available I am in luck! That is the only one that I use a lot.

I have noticed at the local CVS that the cashier just has one right there and will swipe it if the customer doesn't have a card.

Finally got a break at work; that's why I'm late replying. About a year ago the local Shop Rite got really strict about the use of their loyalty cards. No lending to the person ahead of you in line, no keying in your phone number if you forgot yours, etc. I don't know the reason for the change. I suppose they got burned somehow in the past. In the past I've lent mine to a stranger, and someone scanned theirs for me at a CVS when I forgot mine. But for a 50 cent discount at a store I don't frequent, nah, I wouldn't ask, and would probably decline if someone asked me. Jim
I probably wouldn't shop at a store that was strict about their discount card. Let's face it. I could walk into a store once, sign up for the card to get the discount and never go back again. And I have when travelling. Got the card, used it once, have never stepped foot into the store since.

The cards have nothing to do with loyalty. They are a tracking mechanism to see what and how the consumer buys. They attach a discount to it in order to compel customers to get one so they can do their tracking.
