Would you leave your 12-year old alone in hotel room?

I just read an article, I tried to google it and could not find it. But it said that hotels, well known chains are having huge security breaches with the new RFID cards. There is some tool that can be used to jam up the lock and open it. It didnt mention WDW hotels but it did say that there were issues and most hotels did not know until after someone rob one of their guests.
I remember seeing a "news" story (I think it was on Inside Edition) where a "nefarious" person could plug a connector into the bottom of the lock and read the code. It's basically the USB port used to reprogram the lock.

HOWEVER, as has been mentioned, the lock you can open from the outside is usually only one step of door security. Most, if not all, the hotels I have been in recently have that lock, a chain or lever arm, plus a deadbolt. I make sure everything is activated once I'm in for the night.

Granted, with a child, the parents would need to call or knock to have her undo the additional locks, but it's not like that's a big deal.

I wanted to say this was a news article on MSN bc that is my homepage but maybe it was somewhere else, not Inside Edition:lmao:

Even though I said I would not have left my kids at age 12, I posted this so that if anyone does decide to leave the kiddos in the room that they take the extra safety precautions

I think a 12 year old is much safer in a locked hotel room than alone at home. We've had some home invasions here, where they just rush the back door and get in. I have a dozen windows on my first floor - if someone wanted to break it, it would be easy. Behind a deadbolted hotel room on an upper floor with security cameras in the hallway? Not so much.

However, my kids are left home alone - I'm not living my life in fear of the what-ifs, when the risk is slight.

That's why I put "news" in quotes. :rotfl: Inside Edition is on at work. I wouldn't watch it unless I was forced to. :)
