Would you go pregnant or with a newborn?--UPDATE!!

I dont think I would go pregnant. Especailly REALLY pregnant LOL! I just know that at 30 weeks, my baby dropped, and it hurt to walk after that. So Disney would have been a no go for me.

Dh's parents want to tkae family to WDW for Christmas present- time frame is from November to March. We hope to have another baby which would be due early next year so question is would you go 7, 8 months preg or take a NEWborn?

We have Annual Passes, so we have gone at all stages of all 3 of my pregnancies. I have gone at 8 months, and we rented a wheelchair at the parks and DH got to push me around for the day.
That made things SOOO much easier.
I did try to walk at Epcot, but it got to be too much and went back in the wheelchair.

Just be careful in the heat. Even in the fall/spring months, it's still 90 around here and when I was pregnant, I was always hot anyway, so keep cool and hydrated.

Best wishes! As we found out (been trying to get pregnant for the last 2 years with #4), God doesn't always perform our blessings in OUR time frame, so I hope things go as planned for you. You're smart to pre-plan both situations (pregnant or with a newborn) !
Btw, we've taken our children as newborns too. It's actually very easy, since they just sleep most of the time! Just put them in their cozy stroller and go. There are baby care centers in the parks that are a convenient help too.

:wave2: bye!

This is not true. I flew at 34 and 35.5 weeks when I went to WDW and was pregnant with my youngest.

WOW! I must have a meanie OB/GYN ;) My first appointment w/each pregnancy they told me 26 weeks. When I flew at 25 weeks, I flew with a doctor's note, saying it was okay.

Well hey, if Katie and Angelina can do it, why the heck not? :rotfl:

I say newborn, or before 6 months pg.

With both of my boys, they were born before 36 weeks because of high bp/preeclampsia. I wouldn't want to risk it being in a strange city with unfamiliar hospitals. I am sure Orlando has an excellent medical staff, but it isnt worth the risk. We went last November when ds2 was 2 months old and it was a breeze! We arent on a schedule and he ate when he wanted and slept when he wanted. He was the easiest of all the kids!

I've gone twice pg (12weeks at WDW and 24weeks at DL) and we'll be taking our 3 month old in Oct.

As for missing rides and stuff depends on how you do WDW. I'm not a big ride person and DH and I found plenty to do and occupy our time. I had my pedometer with me at DL last month and in one day walked 11 miles. It was in the evenings when I was really dragging but I went back to the room and DH kept on going. He even went to PI without me one night. Ya I missed it but I will have lots more chances in the future.

Well just to update we are expecting again- Due Jan 6th - we still haven't decided when to go I would prefer September when DD is on cycle break for school but there is NO way DFIL could go so what to do!!

thanks for your previous replies!

Congratulations!!! I have never gone to WDW pregnant, but I have traveled several times with infants and found it pleasant and fun. I think you will have a great trip either way! Happy planning for the new baby and your trip :-)

:cheer2: CONGRATULATIONS!!! :cheer2:

I hope you have a healthy and enjoyable pregnancy! I am sure a trip to WDW while pg OR with a newborn will be very magical! :thumbsup2 Best of luck to you and your family!

Congrats! How exciting! :)

I just got back from my first trip while pregnant and figured I'd update here. I was 16 weeks on our trip with baby #3. DSs are 6 and 4. This trip was with my mother and the boys (DH stayed home). Mom uses a scooter around the parks due to arthritis in her knees and feet so I was pushing both the boys around in a stroller all day. We were there for 5 days and we did take breaks every day. I am totally spent today. My legs are like jelly. It was in the mid to upper 90s all day. I can't even begin to think of how many bottles of water I bought trying to stay hydrated and I think I still could have used more. I had one experience waiting for the Star Tours ride (doing a low motion ride with another family) where we went in with a fast pass and got to the point where they merged us in with the regular line not far from where you get in to the ride. There was NO air moving in there and it was HOT. People all packed in. After a few minutes of standing there I started feeling really light headed and was sure I was going to pass out. My vision started going in to tunnel vision sort of thing. I was panicking and not sure which way to go to try to get out since we were packed in from both sides. I was crying and saying "i have to get out!" over and over and pushing my way back through the line. I got to the front and sat down getting to the point where I could barely see and was sure I wasn't going to be able to keep from blacking out. A CM came quickly with a wheel chair and brought me in to Tatoine Traders and gave me water to drink. I don't remember being brought in there at all, just being given water and told to rest untill my family came out. They got my name and went in to find my Mom and kids (who were TERRIFIED that something happened to me or the baby) and told them I was OK and waiting for them. I've never experienced anything like that before. Once I drank some water and cooled off I was fine but it was very scary. Had our trip been in cooler weather I think I'd have been fine all around. It has made me start rethinking our September trip though. I looked at the calendar again and I'd be more like 34 weeks. I already have it planned for only doing 1/2 days each day and spending lots of time at the pool. ;) If we do still go, I will definitely be bringing my mother's scooter and not trying to walk.

I think it would be much easier to take a trip from mid to late pregnancy during cooler weather than in the late spring and summmer. :sunny:

First of all..............my mother had the BEST advice. "They are easier to take care of on the inside than on the outside" That being said, early pregnancy would probably be best. Later pregnancy is tough on your back and legs.........all of that walking!! OUCH! I want to add one comment on taking newborns to Disney. Newborns have not had all of their immunizations. There are people at Disney from ALL over the world. Other countries' immunizations policies are not the same as in the US. I would never risk the disease exposures with these tiny ones. A few years back, I took care of a 5yo who came to my ER straight off the plane from Disney. The child was infected with bacterial meningitis (a potentially life threatening condition). Every mother needs to use their heads when it comes to their little lives that have been entrusted to them..........no matter how much you love Disney. Wait until they've had all of their baby shots.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I was ridiculed on another thread for making this same point about newborns and infection. Infants shouldn't be treated like living luggage. I would wait until they can actually sit in a stroller and enjoy the experience, too.
Additionally, my second child came early and VERY quickly. As others have said, the best laid plans...

WDW pregnant or with newborn?? NEITHER! :lmao:

With the amount of walking, high temps/humidity and crowds, I can not think of a more miserable experience while pregnant!
And if you require travel by plane, you can not fly after a certain point in your pregnancy. And if traveling by car it isn't good for baby or you to sit for extended periods of time in the same position.

Equally as miserable IMHO would be taking a newborn to WDW. Neither one of you would enjoy it and dealing with feedings, diaper changes, sleep patterns, and all of those icky germs wouldn't be my idea of a vacation.

1.I dont know about going to Disney while 7-8 months pregnant. You might not have the most fun. I was so big by my 8th month it was hard just to walk around for too long (painful) the baby would sometimes press on nerves (due to his position) and it sent really really intence shooting pains downward. Personally i would not do it, everyone has thier own experience though but it might be a waste as you may not enjoy it.

2. I Hate, Hate to see women out with their new borns. Stay home enjoy the baby. Its just would not make sence to take a new born out. Wait and do it a little later. Personally i did not take my son out for about 6 weeks and i only took him to church then back home, not traveling to a them park with thousnds of people many of whom may have chicken pox (deadly to an infant, as well as RSV, aslo deadly but it presents itself as a common cold in Adults.). My mother did not want him getting anything as they have little-no immunity and any get their initial immunity from the mothers milk (and many dont nurse these days anyway) . You could potentially save your self a trip to the emergency room where they will do a spinal tap (my hospitals policy with all newborns below about 3 months) to find out exactly whats wrong as well as blood tests. Why put your child through that (this is what my doctor told me). Keep the baby home!! Disney is not that great;not greater than your childs health that is

This sounds like it isn't your first so:

How miserable were you in the last trimester of your pregancy? Any complications? I was miserable and boarderline pre-eclamspia. My inclination would be not to go (Disney? But I want to lie on the couch!) and my health would have made it a no go (Disney? but you need to lie on the couch! Do you want to end up in a coma?! Preterm labor?!) But other people sail though their pregnancies with no problems, living active lives until they go into labor.

How miserable was your experience with a newborn? Mine was lousy. I didn't sleep for a year. We had problems breastfeeding, everyone was sick all the time. Taking a baby that you are already watching for RSV and doesn't sleep wouldn't be my idea of a good time. Again, health and inclination would make Disney counterindicated. But once again, I know people who have wonderful infants who are robust and travel well and sleep through the night.

While your experience on the first is no guarentee your experience on the second will be the same, its probably a better indication than any advice you'll get from strangers.

I have gone to WDW while pregnant. I was 3 months along and it was the middle of July!! I had all day sickness and was miserable!! I would never do that again! I couldn't see going 8 months either! At that point I am so uncomfortable I can't imagine walking around WDW. Also, both my kids were early, one 5 weeks, the other 3 weeks. However, we are planning on having another baby and have a trip booked for Nov.
If all goes as planned I should be in the 2nd trimester. This trip is going to be very laid back so if I'm tired it will not be a problem to stop and take a break.

I have also taken both my kids when they were babies. Let me first point out that I am the type of person who does not take my babies in public for the first 6 weeks of life!!LOL They go to the Dr. and home. When people visit they have to wash their hands or use purell before touching the baby.
I took my DD when she was 9mo and DS first trip was when he was 8mo. I do not regret taking them at that age and we all had a great time. I think they were so much easier then they are now!!!LOL They are 8 and 3 and our last trip exhausted me!! But in a good way! ;)

I was about 6 months pregnant when we went our first time and I was fine, although it was after all my morning sickness has passed and that made a big difference. We didn't go again until both our babies were able to share a double stroller (our children are approx 14 months apart). I don't think I'd be able to do it with an infant or early/later in pregnancy. Unless it would be a quick slow relaxing trip with a stay at a mod or above resort and lots of down time.

I don't think I would take a newborn to disney due to the germs he/she would be exposed to and the fact that they haven't had their vaccines yet.

Also, I did go when I was 6-1/2 months pregnant with my 3rd child. We went in August and drove down from NJ. It was hot but I drank alot and tried to put my feet up when I could. My legs did swell around my ankles quite a bit from sitting in the car and from the heat, but nothing too serious. My doctor said to stop every 1-1/2 or 2 hours to walk around. Of course, I would much rather have gone when I wasn't pg, but we went because DH was going for work. I still had a good time and would do it again if faced with the decision. However, I don't think I would want to be much farther along. I was about 7 months along for the drive home and I was MUCH more uncomfortable by that point. I don't think I could have done it at 8 months. I would be much more worried about going into labor at that point and since I deliver very fast (labor only lasted 45 minutes with my third), I would have been a nervous wreck.

Good luck with your decision and best wishes with your new little one!

Well, I just found out that I'm pregnant. 7 weeks!! We're leaving for disney in 2 weeks!!! I have such terrible moring sickness I'm scared to go. Everything is paid for already though. I think we'll just have to take it really slow and take lots of breaks.

I did go this past January at 7 months pregnant with DD (almost 3) and DH. Of all parks to go to, Disney was a great choice because just about all of their rides are family friendly or "pregnant lady safe". Basically, anything that my daughter was too short to ride I couldn't go on either -- Space Mt., Thuner Mt., Dinosaur, Rockin' Roller Coaster, TOT, Mission: Space. I did ride everything else that I felt comfortable to rie though and had a blast.

Would I want to do it now with a 3 year old an a 2 month old -- NO WAY! They're so portable when they're inside you. My parents did it with a 4 year old (me) and a 9 month old and even then I think it was probably easier than it would be with a newborn.

Just don't over-do it and you should still have an enjoyable time.
