Would you go in September? (Weather related)

DH and I are going back and forth about the dates for our 2006 trip. Originally we had planned on the end of November. Now we are thinking about September.

My question is this......given the way the weather (hurricanes) has been these last couple of years, do we dare book a trip for that time? I am thinking that I would have to book it as a room only reservation in case we needed to cancel it at the last minute due to weather concerns.

What do you think? Should we just take our chances, and hope for the best?
Or is it crazy to even attempt to go at this time?

hi
we went in set. this year and are going back in sept next year. we managed to dodge the hurricanes and we got to go to the first mnnsshp. the weather was great. only one day of rain and the parks are so quiet. :cool1:

We would go in September. Hurricanes could hit at any time from June to November so that eliminates half the year. I wouldn't plan my trips around them since they are so sporadic.

I think this year, Orlando just got the far outer bands of Wilma and not a direct strike.

I wouldn't be as concerned about hurricanes as much as I would the heat. September is still summer in Florida ... it is a VERY hot month. If you go then definitely pack sunscreen.

I would go at the end of November. The Christmas activities and decorations will be in full swing, it's a great time to go. Weather is usually in the 70's but there can be cold spells.

We went in September this year and it was great (although a little hot)!

Ironically, the only time we got rained on was at Epcot in England. Man, disney is good! :rotfl:

If you have the option to go in November, I'd stick with that instead. September is still very hot & humid here, while November is more bearable. I agree about not worrying too much about the hurricanes though--there's really no better place to be during one than Disney, & these last two years could just be a fluke.

Is there that much difference between the crowds September vs November?

Weather here is always a gamble. Remember that Wilma hit us at the end of October. The year before we had it bad in September. The best plan is to ensure you have backup plans and travel insurance if you need to make flight/room cancellations. There are no gaurantees when it comes to weather.

That being said, September is a great time to go. That is, if you can deal with "Love bugs"...They have a near magnetic attraction to windshields at that time of year in Orlando.

September is a great time to visit the World. We love the warmth because it gives us one more excuse to get up early, hit the parks, and then skip out early for an afternoon by the pool. You often do have to dodge hurricanes. We vacationed right in the wedge between two, two years ago, and it was dodgy, but it worked.

We've been in September twice. Once in 2001 and this past September. Next September, we're doing a 7 night DCL and some days at WDW.

In 2001, it rained everyday. The parks were very empty, but the rain was a pain in the butt. This past year, we went at the end of Sept. Crowds were still low and it rained twice during the week for an hour. It was very hot though. But I LOVE it!

DH and I did a trip by ourselves , without the kids this past Nov. First week of November. The weather was cooler, cool at night, too. I wouldn't have been swimming all week. Though most people aren't as cold blooded as me, because there were people in the pools, but not very many. The crowds were higher. Some of the waits were twice as long as when we were there in September. All depends what you're looking for. Good Luck!

I went to WDW Sept. 11-19 this year. It was hot and humid, but it did not rain at all. I am very sensitive to the heat, so we would get up before dawn (!), have breakfast as soon as our selected restaurant opened, and then head to the park for the opening. At around lunchtime, we'd go back to the hotel for a rest and to escape the heat. We'd venture out again in the evening after dinner.

I really enjoyed September because all of the rides were walk ons. The light crowds have prompted me to book another September trip for next year.

we went Sept 9 thru 17th this yr and it was great! It was still very warm, some days hot, but there were no crowds. Great weather for waterparks or getting wet on rides. No rain at all while we were there.

We went 9/26 - 10/1! It was awesome. I was worried about hurricanes when I booked it, but I wanted a less crowded time. However, it was much HOTTER than I thought it would be. Have fun.

My personal favorite is late sept early oct.Made a few November and December trips. Crowds where lower the weather was cooler sometimes to cool to use the resort pool.Never a bad time to go but i just like watching the start of the MLB playoffs at the espn zone.Hard to tell with the 50th going on but i suspect the past few hurricane seasons will bring crowds down some in sept and oct in the coming years. However when we where there the 1st thru the 11th of oct this year it was busier than usual.

Yes! We usually go in Sept, the week after Labor Day. Low crowd levels, no lines for anything but HOT, HOT, HOT! But it is such a nice time to go. We had to deal with worrying over the big 3 hurricaines that hit last year, had to change a few days around, but overall didn't have any major headaches. The weather channel was making it out to seem much worse than it was, and we didn't have one issue with not being able to find gas, which was the main concern. Disney cust service was awesome during the hurricaines and I would most certainly go again at that time.

We went Sept.25 thru Sept.29 this year. We have gone in Oct. and the first week of Dec. last year and the crowds this time were nonexistant. I thought it was good in the past when we only had to wait 20min. for rides but in Sept. there was no wait and you could even stay on the ride if you wanted to. The parks and disney transportation were empty too. If I could find another time of year that was that slow it would be great. It was very hot and humid and I live in the south so I am used to it. When you are going all day and walking so much the heat really drains you. Plus it frequently rains this time of year. I was thinking about going the week after Thanksgiving next year since Thanksgiving is so early. Pop Warner won't be coming until Dec.3 so that gives you a week between with nothing going on except the xmas parade on Dec. 1 and 2. I can't decide which time to go either because I really really liked the super slow time in Sept. Good Luck!

We went in mid September this year and decided not to go back in Sept. again!!!

It's way too hot and too many bugs!! It was still crowded and we had to wait to ride lots of rides. The waits weren't that long but we went in November the first time we took our DD and we walked on most rides and didn't have to wait to see any characters. In fact, she got her pic taken with all the Pooh characters in the Toontown tent at one time since there was no one there. The weather was great-and just a light jacket at night, never got hot.

But that's just me- :flower:

My Husband and I went for our first trip this year in September and we had a blast the only day it really rained was the day after the first MNSSHP and we ended up spending the day at downtown disney since we all parked out by then. We had a blast, walked on to most rides or had a very small wait and let me tell you we enjoyed the weather, even the heat.
