A friend of mine at work is planning a DisneyWorld vacation, but he isn't sure when to go. His choices are the first week of May or the first week of October. Which do you prefer? :confused3 I have been to Disney the last week of September, but I have no idea what the weather ususally like in May. Any suggestions???

We've been in mid-May and the weather was perfect. I've had friends who've gone in October and have absolutely loved it. The weather should be nice and they've also got the Mickey's Not-So-Scary Hallloween party (I'm not sure on the dates for that). The kids loved the Halloween party and they told us that Disney gives you PLENTY of candy (not the cheap stuff either).

I like both but I would probably pick October because of the F&WF

I would choose the first week of May over the beginning of October. May weather is often gorgeous, with not too much rain. The spring break crowds are usually done by May, so crowds should be more moderate. We went in May once, over the week of Mother's Day and loved it! The beginning of October is still hurricane season, and the weather can still be hot, humid and rainy.

DH and I spent our honeymoon at WDW Oct 98 and had a great time with managable crowds, most of whom were British. Since then we have been twice in Sept (end of Sept 00 and Labor Day 04) when hardly anyone was there. Both Sept trips were HOT - I shudder to imagine July and Aug! In Oct 03, we were shocked - shocked, I say - at the crowds! Easily double or triple the people in Oct 98. Because I'm constantly talking to strangers, I discovered that in addition to the British holidays in October, several US states now have Fall Breaks in October.

Both the Oct trips were the 3rd week of the month - maybe other times are better.

I just booked a trip for May 06, so I'm curious to see what people say about that time!

Have to agree with the concern about hurricane season. Our Sept 04 trip icluded Hurricane Frances and the entire resort was shut down for 2 days! Many folks we talked too were stuck in Orlando for several extra days extra days. Can you imagine watching your Disney trip budget increase by 3 or 4 days without warning?!

I must say that the resorts dealt with the situation very well. Lots of characters at the resorts to keep the magic going in weird cicumstances.

We're going in both months. We go in May to enjoy Epcot's Flower and Garden show and in October for the MNSSHP and some of the Food and Wine attractions.

We've encountered much more rain during the October stays.

Bobbi :)

and the weather was nicer in May. In October this year there was a tropical depression over Orlando most of the week. In October they have MNNSHP which was awesome!

October was always our favorite. We went every year until the kids were too old to pull out of school. We loved it then :sunny:

I've done May, but I'd like to try October because people will be back in school then.

This past year we went in both May and Oct. May we went 14-21 and Oct we went 4-10. If I could say so,, I would chose MAY over October hands down,, not just cause of the weather but because of the crowds! In May we literally nearly walked on almost every ride, and in October,, we waited and waited. It could have been for the free food or because we were told that the southern schools were on Fall break,, but what ever the reason,, I would definately vote for May!

the first week of May is still one of the best times to go. October has been steadily increasing in attendance the last few years.

I would go in May just because it is less time to wait!!!

Definately October. There's the F&W Festival and Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party which are both a lot of fun.
The weather was great when I was at Disney in October. :sunny:

Thanks for all the input - I'll pass it on to my friend. I think he might be leaning towards May - since it's only a few months away. :)
I wish I could go both times - but DH says we won't be able to go this year - we went in September 05. :(

I would go in May, definitely. We have been during both times and the one time we went in October a hurricane went through. Will never do a trip in prime hurricane season again.

We've done both, but we LOVE MAY! Especially right before all the Southern schools get it. It's a fabulous time to go! :goodvibes

May - without a doubt. Weather is perfect & schools (for the most part) haven't let out yet. Also, October still has hurricane risks. And in May the Epcot Flower & Garden festival is an amazing experience - just beautiful - everything is in full bloom! Go for May.
