Would you get married in.....

I have a feeling that when the day comes, my BF and I will be battling it out where we get married. I'd want Disney, he'd want Vegas. :)
I wouldn't mind getting married in Vegas, it's just that half of my betrothed co-workers have gotten married there over the past year.

Oh yeah! If I could get all the people I had in my wedding party to come along and get my parent and grand parents to come, I love Vegas!

I would. A beach would be my first choice though. I actually think weddings are cheesey in general. I still get sick to my stomach about my wedding. It was so not what I wanted and I let my mom "bully" me into it. That was before I knew better.

I see nothing tacky or cheesy about marriage ... regardless of where it's done. As I said, the wedding isn't important, the marriage is.

amen sista!

I totally would! I had a big fancy wedding the first time around. Next time, I'm having fun!!! Bring on Elvis!!!! :)

I too am not into weddings, and suggested Vegas to DH, but he didn't want to do it. It would've been pricey for the parents to attend that way, so I'm ok with not having had a Vegas wedding. Otherwise, I think it's great!!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Well, I'm in the 1% of the population that has never been to Las Vegas and sees nothing appealing about it. Vegas fans, Please don't flame me, but DH and I agree that neither of us has any remote desire to ever go there. However, as weddings go, I don't see the problem with destination weddings, although I'd pick a beach somewhere. In fact I'm encouraging the DDs to someday do a destination wedding so I can go on a nice vacation and have an excuse. (unfortunately DD#2 (10) wants a Disney Wedding Pavilliion wedding--she better get that law degree first :wizard: so someone can pay for it! )
If I did go to Vegas for a vow renewal (we're coming up on 20 years next June) I'd want the cheesiest possible. Not Star trek, but possibly Elvis would be involved. If you're going to do it you may as well do it the "Vegas" way.

For myself, I could never have done it. I'm not a holy roller or anything, but I just think Vegas mocks the entire idea of a wedding ceremony. For some people, I'm sure it's fine, but I couldn't do it.

Time to put my flame suit on! :firefight

I keep telling my DH that we are going to renew our vows for our 10yr in Vegas next year.....I want it to be by Elvis....

At first my husband thought I was batty :maleficen ...but I think the idea is growing on him...

I wanted to for my second wedding (I hate planning things) but DH wanted it to be more "special." Of course, he didn't want to do any of the actual work involved in the planning, though! :teeth:

I totally would do this! I'd get married in the chapel at the Luxor or the Venetian. They are both SO beautiful!

Just because it's in Vegas doesn't have to mean it's cheesey!

I can see eloping, but I would probably do it to someplace other than Vegas. I would not do a wedding with guests and a gown in Vegas.

If I could make sure all my friends and family could afford to be there (both $$ and time-wise) I'd do it in a heartbeat! I definetly don't want a traditional wedding reception- too much like my bat mitzvah.

We DID get married there. It wasn't tacky at all. We were married in the Excalibur wedding chapel (OK, so the robe the minister wore was more "themed" toward the hotel, but other than that it was very nice).

We didn't have a lot of money and we were going to have to pay for everything ourselves. THis way we got to have a honeymoon. We did also have a reception when we got back. That's the part most people seem to be interested in anyway.

My friend that just got married, I'm pretty sure the cost of her photography and dress cost more than my wedding and honeymoon combined!!

Besides, a marriage is about more than an expensive wedding. We've been married longer than a lot of people who had that big wedding.

I totally would! Even for a first wedding. I don't desire the traditional wedding. With that said though, if, when I get married, the person I marry has the desire for a traditional one, I"m ok with it.

We joked about it when we were getting married. I'm sure you could have a tasteful marriage in Vegas it's just everyone instantly thinks the little white chapel, dri thru chapels, and Elvis impersonators. We still joke one day we'll go out there an renew our vows and have Elvis say "Okay, now say I do" in that Elvis voice. :rotfl2:

I hope you bought the Super-Deluxe model flame suit, because you're about to get scorched! :sad2:

DH and I were married in Vegas almost 10 years ago. We were living in Virginia, my family was in Michigan, and DH's parents were in San Diego and refused to fly anywhere. Las Vegas was the logical choice. It was driveable for my inlaws and affordable for the rest of us. We had a nice ceremony in the Treasure Island chapel followed by a reception at Kokomo's in the Mirage. It was a first (and only!) marriage for both of us and we both dressed as we would in any other wedding - full wedding gown, tux, best man, maid of honor. Since it was a destination wedding, we had a small, but nice party of 12 guests + the wedding party. No part of our wedding 'mocked the entire idea of a wedding ceremony' - whatever that means! What a rude statement that was! My wedding was just as much a real wedding as any church wedding. pirate: (sorry the pirate is the angriest smilie the DIS has to offer!)

I DID I DID !!!

DH & I got married in Vegas 2 years ago. It was beautiful and I'd do it again in a heartbeat! :sunny:
