Would you ever turn down an invite to a funeral?

Yes, my father and a former boyfriend passed away unexpectedly a day apart and the services were on the same day and in totally different cities. There was no way I could make both. It broke my heart, but I had to declined the one in favor of staying with my family and my dad's service.
My former boyfriend's family completely understood but to this day, If I could have pulled it off I would have gone to both. There just wasn't enough time.

I think the closest funeral "invite" would be the ones for family members who's services were months after their passing where the family needed to coordinate out of area/state family attendance. I've attended as well as declined a few of those. This is usually due to not knowing the family member, living out of state from the service, or having no desire to spend my time/money with family.

I have never seen an invite to a funeral.
Though, some funerals are "invited only".
My FIL's funeral was just MIL and FIL's 2 kids from his first marriage and two other people, no step kids.

I've never personally received an invitation to a funeral, either. In most cases, funerals are open to anyone who wants to pay their respects, but as you mentioned, some are more private, especially if it's the family's preference.

LOL- do people send out invites to funerals??? Typically anyone just shows up if they want to at the funeral home or church- the "after-party" is typically for people going to the church/cemetery the last day.

I don't know that I have ever been invited to a funeral. I go out of respect for the family usually just close friends and family. I am very happy when they are closed caskets.

I have been uninvited to a funeral for my son-in-law's father. He hasn't died yet, but we have all been warned that he is making provisions to have security at his funeral to keep us all out and arrest us if we dare to show up. None of us care to attend anyway, except maybe to make sure he died. My SIL's parents are not very nice people. My grandkids refuse to even acknowledge they are even related and call their other "grandparents" the strangers.

My husband uninvited a friend to a funeral for a family member. His friend once dated my husband's niece and he stalked her for almost 40 years. Thankfully he was so insulted by not being able to attend her aunt's funeral that he stopped associating with all of us.
