Would you do this (stroller)

My dh and I have been talking about strollers. I realy don't want to rent a plastic stroller, but I might. Dh said maybe we should order a stroller and have it delivered to the resort. After our vac we would just leave it there.

Another option is to get a travel bag to pack out old stroller in. Then just check it with out luggage at the airport. The good point for this would be a stroller my dd already knows.

My dd is 4 years old and doesn't use a stroller unless we go to crowded places. Dd doesn't like crowds and needs the stroller to hide in. I had thought of not using a stroller at all, but she may need to have a private zone to get control of her emotions. She also gets too stimulated quickly.

I also though a stroller would be good if my older dd needed it. She has asthma and sometimes can't be active for long periods. She is also very small for her age. She will have just turned 9, but she is almost the same size as my 4 dd.

Sorry for all the rambling. I guess I just want to know if you would order a stroller, have it delivered to the resort or not.

I'd buy one once I arrived. You can get an umbrella stroller for about $20.

My DD was almost 5 and we bought a stroller at EPCOT for $40, it was lightweight, durable and cheap enough that we could give it away at the end of our trip.

You can do exactly that through www.abbf.com

We rent from them. It's waiting at the resort when you arrive, and you leave it there upon your departure.

We brought our stroller from home because it was FANTASTIC to have it at the airport. We fly out of Boston and there can be a lot of walking through the airport because it's quite large. We brought our stroller from home, gate checked it, and then it was right there waiting for us when we got off the plane and we were able to use it through the Orlando airport as well.

We're buying a cheap second hand stroller for my neice who is 5.

At the end of the trip, we will give it to someone in the stroller rental queue (that's if they want it!)

To echo what others have said ... Sounds like the stroller might come in handy at the airport, for the reasons you mentioned in your original post.

We're in a similar boat, but are leaning toward bringing our umbrella stroller with us. I suspect it will be as useful in the airport as it will be in the parks.

I would bring my own and gate check it at the airport.

2nd the umbrella stroller option.......the little guy in my pic is a new 5 year old, so he only needs the stroller while 'at' the parks.....I spend around $15 at WalMart in Orlando, and just leave it there when we leave.....

Best $15 I spend on every vacation!!

To stroller or not to stroller, THAT is the question...

I had a just turned 5-year old son on our trip last Thanksgiving. We bought a cheapo umbrella stroller and it worked really well...

the first two days and then I forgot it at the bus stop at the resort. I guess whomever picked it up enjoyed it.

Anyway, you can rent length of stay stroller service that is transferable to any of the parks. You pay like 40 bucks or whatever and can rent a stroller at EPCOT in the morning and turn it in and just show your receipt at MK and get one for the afternoon. The plastic strollers are sturdy and hold a bunch of stuff. I'd go that route again if there was the least chance that you would have to carry someone all day.

We bought a Combi travel stroller several years ago for older DS, and have continued to use this now with younger DS6. He is quite small for his age, and can't easily handle full days of walking (even though we do take afternoon breaks!). It's nice to have something, if needed. plus it has a small basket underneath and a sunshade. We check the stroller at the gate at the airport, so it's waiting for us when we disembark.
I like the idea of leaving the stroller with a *just-arriving* family, as this will be the last year that we need it!

When we were there in February one of the CM's had the stroller and was telling us about the new service. I liked the stroller but it only has a weight limit of 35 lbs.

Someone correct me if I am wrong but I don't think they do lenght of stay stroller rentals any more.

We can't decide what to do but I think we are just going to rent when we feel that dd4 needs a break. So that way we will not have to lug the stroller around the whole time. We have been trying to do everything this summer without the stroller to see how she holds up and she is doing really well.

If you need it in the airports- bring it and just gate check it as you board...

If you don't feel you will need it in the airport- then just see about getting one once you get there. Many hit walmart or other stores and buy a cheap stroller and then just leave it at the park or resort when they leave

Any left strollers get sent to Lost and Found and if not claimed after a certain amount of time are sold in the store opened to CMs that sells the broken, outdated merchandise, and unclaimed property.

If you know a CM you can always ask that they pick you one up- they have them for $1-$20 depending on the stroller type and the shape it is in.

We haven't yet traveled to the parks with one too young to walk the distance- but I would definitely want a stroller for my trip- either renting a "length of stay" or bringing my own or buying there and abandoning it...

I suppose another consideration is the resort you are in and the distance from transportation to your room- if it is a good distance you may want a stroller at the resort or if you go to DTD... having your own would make that much easier.

I have to laugh because when we went to WDW when my youngest DD was turning 3, we brought one of our own strollers along -- it had made it through a couple of kids and we were done with it, so our plan was to leave it at WDW for whomever could use it. Well, there was NO ONE in the stroller line the morning we were leaving, and we couldn't find anyone who needed a stroller, so we thought, 'Hey, we'll just leave it at the TTC and surely someone will need a stroller.' Unfortunately, even though I had removed the gate check tickets and all our stuff, somehow a sticker got stuck underneath the seat that had our last name on it. (I mean, it was so far hidden there seems no way anyone could have seen it.) WDW found our stroller and SHIPPED IT TO US. How they found our name on it is beyond me, and how they identified our address remains a mystery. I felt awful that they didn't just call us and we could have told them to keep it or give it to someone there who needed it. We ended up just donating it to a shelter nearby, but still . . .

So be sure to really go over it with a fine tooth comb if you are going to leave it there!!!

You probably would be better bringing a small one and checking it on the plane. If you go to DTD I don;t think there are stroller rentals there. It was pretty crowded there so your DD may want her stroller.

I saw rent a double one at the parks if you can swing it. You can buy a few days at a time and the price comes down a tad.

We get one for our ds6 and he shares it with his cousin (6) who meets us there. It's sturdy (MK and AK anyway) and we can sit them down and put our backpacks and things in there with them.

I have friends that rent them for their 8 and 9 yo to get the most out of the day. Little legs get tired quick and we tend to spend the whole day at the park. It's a place for them to rest in between attractions and possibly nap.

Babies R Us usually has a stock load of cheap umbrella strollers that have sun shades and everything... $20.
Easy to fold... easy to gate-check (we've done this tons of times)... so easy to travel with.
Plus, the sun shade is able to fold down for "privacy" if she needs to be "isolated" a bit...

I'm not sure I understand just LEAVING a stroller in Orlando... they're not that hard to travel with... :confused3
Then you could just sell it at a garage sale (or ebay) when you get home... and recoup some of the cost...

We have this umbrella... it's awesome!
