Would you do GF if it was just $100 more than Poly?

The GF is nice but I'd stick with the Poly. :thumbsup2 Plus when it comes to the buses the GF is the last one to be picked up and dropped off.

For $97 more I would try the GF. Though Poly & WL are my favorites so far. It's a good deal but I'm not 100% sure I would love GF as much as Poly.

We had looked at the pictures and have been to both resorts for meals etc... I don't know why I'm having such a hard time with this. My DH is really staying on the side of the Poly ... He says the rooms at GF are a little too much for him. LOL I guess I can understand that.
I'm just really hoping that we like the Poly.
My Cousin thinks we are nuts not to take the deal for the Grand Floridian. She said that is where she would stay in a minute.

The rooms at the GF are different than what you are seeing on most of the websites. If you are looking at Deb Wills site, she hasn't updated the GF rooms yet. Almost all the buildings (except one) have the newer low key rooms. Go over to the GF FAQ thread and look on page 381. Lots of pictures of the new rooms. I didn;t like pictures of the old rooms, but the new ones look much more subdued!

You should choose the resort that appeals to you most, bottom line. Therefore, it's hard for someone else to tell you which you should choose.

Look at pics, the Poly is all tropical with browns and darker decor in the rooms. The Grand Floridian is light, bright, white, floral and completely different in theme. Both are wonderful resorts on the monorail so it's a toss up. If the approx $100 is not a big deal, choose your favorite theme of the two.

I've stayed at the Poly and it was wonderful. I love the atmosphere and the "alohas". My SIL stays at the GF and doesn't want to be anywhere else. She has young kids and didn't feel it was not kid friendly or snooty - I think it's all in the individual's perception.

We've stayed at both and much prefer the GF. The Poly just isn't us. We wanted to like it, but found it a let down. Out of all the dexlues the Poly would probably be my second last choice. For us it's about the theme.
For location, you can't ask for better for any monorail resorts. Go with whatever theme grabs you.

Thanks everyone!!!
This would be so much easier if our favorite (YC) was just on the monorail.:rotfl: :rotfl:

I have stayed in GV rooms at both resorts and my vote is GF, hands down, especially if you can get a deal like that! I also love the YC and it reminds me a lot of the GF. I just posted a bunch of pics of the refurbished rooms on the GF FAQ thread as well as on the Resorts board. I just returned and visited the Poly and the YC. The Poly always feels crowded and loud to me - it makes me claustrophobic. The GF and YC feel open and airy and more serene - which is just what I want when I return from the parks!

By the way, my DH is a big strappin' guy and he won't stay anywhere else but the GF!

Good luck deciding!

We've stayed at both and enjoyed them. For a small price increase, go with GF. Regarding snooty people... you're all at WDW, and it's not like your other option (Poly) is some fleabag motel.:earsboy: If someone gets snooty with you at GF, tell them you're slumming there until your Cinderella's Castle room is upgraded to your standards.;)

No, I have not personally stayed there. A little too stuffy to me, in my opinion. But I have had relatives stay there while we were at the Poly and their room had a view that was horrible! Unfortunately, they asked to switch rooms but none were available. Of course like another poster mentioned, there are just a few rooms that have bad views. Your odds of having one of these are slim, but there is a chance.

I feel if you even have to question the idea of the GF, you should know your answer. ;)

Have a Magical day!

Same place, different theme. Go with the theme that appeals to you more. Look at pictures. They are both beautiful.

Poly has the advantage of walking to the TTC to catch the direct monorail. That's worth more than $100 to me because "time is money." Just kidding.

Anyway, stop obsessing about it. Start thinking about what show you are going to see first and what ride you can't wait to take your child's picture on, etc. Get on with life.

There are just so many different opinions on this subject. Personally, we've stayed at the GF many times over the years. I've NEVER experienced "snooty" people there. I LOVE the resort. We held off for many many years to try the Poly. Whenever the monorail stopped there, I thought "Yuck!" It also reminded me of the Brady Bunch. Then, over 2 yrs. ago, we tried it. It is our new favorite and we're staying there for a third time in 2008. I appreciate the beauty of the GF but I feel like the Poly "takes me away" more. Again, it's all personal prefernce. Good luck with your decision! BTW, we will go back to the GF again. Just can't pull ourselves from the Poly right now.;)

LOL
Ohhh I love to plan and ask questions!!! Obsessing is part of the planning for me. We have been quite a few times so I already know what i want to take her on and what some of the meals are that we are going to be doing also.
This is all part of the vacation process for me and i LOVE it!!!!

A vacation would not be a vacation for me if I couldn't plan and research everything to death.
That is why I LOVEEEEEEEEE these boards!!!!!!! Whoooo Hooooooo

We LOVE the GF!!! Going back after our cruise this February.

The Poly has always kept me curious, though, so we are trying it for one night before the cruise. I just have to settle my curiosity so that I can say I tried it. Of course, you never know, one night might not be enough.

I say, though that a princess deserves a trip to the GF for her first visit!;)

I have stayed at the Grand Florididan for around 11 years, Wilderness Lodge for 2 years and Polynesian for 3 years a row and the Grand is the best hotel. Our kids loved the Grand. The service, the atmosphere and the rooms and how close the hotel is to the Magic Kingdom.

Such a dilemma!! lol

Well, I agree that YC has that light and airy, elegant feel that reminded me of the GF. Having stayed at all three....reading your comments....I would go with the GF...$97??
Poly is great, however....sitting on the beach at night....looking at GF....you may wish you were there...looking at the Poly!!

I also agree that it's a matter of personal tastes as far as the theming goes.

I've stayed at both and as much as we LOVED the Grand Floridian, there's no way I'd pay more, or even the same price, to stay there as compared to the Polynesian resort.

I would like to try the Royal Palm Club some day (the concierge in the main building of the GF), but other than that, there's no way I'd choose the GF over the Polynesian.

But again, it's purely due to my personal preferences and the feeling I get while at the Polynesian; it's nothing again the GF, it's more because of how much I LOVE the Polynesian. I also love being able to walk right to the Epcot monorail at the TTC, from the resort.

Like others have already said, check out everyone's pictures, check out what amenities each resort can offer and which of those you're likely to take advantage of, and go with whichever one you think your own family will enjoy the most.

The bottom line (in my opinion) is that you honestly can't go wrong with either one :sunny:

And don't forget to check out my website, the link is below. I have a ton of pictures of the Polynesian, as well as pictures from our stay at the GF :)

I just LOVE your pictures. They actually may be what sealed the deal for the Poly for me. DH already told me that's where he would rather stay!:wizard:

Thanks everyone for all the tips and advice!!!:goodvibes
