Would you cut stay one day short to upgrade to mod from value?

The extra day is far more important to us than the upgrade from value to mod.

We very much enjoyed our stay at values the last two years. This year we're trying POR, but not at the sacrifice of losing a day.

Thanks everyone!

I mentioned this possibility to DH and even though he said the queen beds would be nice, he doesn't necessarily want to lose a day either. He even suggested that he sleep with one kid and I sleep with another that way its one big person and 1 little person per bed so we might be a little more comfortable if it ends up being an issue. Of course, that means I'll have either an elbow or a foot in my face all week but oh, well!:goodvibes

For a first trip in particular, go for the extra day!

Our first trip was a value, it was wonderful7

On a first trip, I'd go with the extra night and Pop, on a return visit I'd choose CSR or one of the other moderates.

At their age, I think they'll be fine with double beds. But for the parents, are you guys going to be fine with double beds? I want to stay longer in Disney. I think I want to stay longer in Disney and just deal with 2 double beds. I stayed at POP and would stay there again.

I agree.....I would stay longer and deal with the double beds :) We used to go for 3-4 days and then we started staying off site so we could afford to stay longer. I've often thought about taking a day or two off our trip length and bumping up a resort category but no matter how many times we've been I always would rather have the longer stay versus the bigger room/bed/kitchenette.

That's a really tough call. I read a really awesome trip report by Quelia about her family's stay at Pop Century. It made me really want to give that resort a try! We did cut a day off our trip (also our first) to upgrade from a moderate to a deluxe resort.

Thanks everyone!

:thumbsup2 Excellent choice!

For DH's first ever trip to WDW, we were planning on a mod for 4 nights. Due to the budget, I was going to get only 2 day park passes. But since DH was the one who always insisted on oceanfront rooms at the beach, I was afraid he would be miserable at what I kept reading was sort of like a Disneyfied low rent motel. Well, that was the impression I got from reading some posts, so mod it would have to be!
We wound up having to postpone, for family reasons. Coincidentally, this was right when Disney brought out the fantastic promotion 7 nights for the price of 4, with a $200 gift card thrown in. They were really trying to keep bookings up despite the economy. We could do that one, but no way could we do it in a mod. I just could't justify the 2-300 extra dollar cost. So we went value. I was worried about DH, but he was willing to go along with it for DD.
In the end, he was totally won over by the excellent Disney service. No complaints from him other than the walk from the car to the room!

Your first trip ever? You should spend maximum time at the parks and soaking it all in. When you come back (yes, you WILL return eventually, it's called Disney Fever ;) ) the resort you stay at will be more important as you will likely not go commando and prioritize what you really want to do at the parks. Then you can relax and enjoy the resort more.

Yes, I would rather stay less days at a mod than more days at a value...we cannot stand the values. THe rooms are tiny and the noise through the walls and floors is crazy loud. The food court is a like a mall food court on the busiest Black Friday you have every seen.

We just booked the POP today for our next trip in October. We wind up going several times a year and have stayed at several of each level. For the last couple of years we have almost always stayed at the POP. It is a good value for the price. We find that since we hit the parks at rope drop, come back in the middle of the day, and then go back early evening, it is not worth the money for the upper end resorts. We don't come to WDW to spend time in a hotel room. We shower and sleep a few hours. We spend the money we save on food or extras in the parks. If you have plenty of money to spend go for the more expensive rooms, but if you are on a budget spend the extra day and book the POP.

no, I'd never cut my stay to stay at a mod! Or a deluxe for that matter. I want to stay as long as possible, lol. Anyways, the difference between a double and a queen bed is so minimal, it's barely noticeable.

We don't care for the values. But we'll do 1 night in them if it means getting down early. Anyway, Yes, we're out most of the day, but we don't find the values relaxing. So I'd be very tempted to chop a day.

POP would be my choice and stay as long as you can so you can enjoy your trip. POR is our favorite moderate but for the money we been doing POP for several years now. AoA will have the little Mermaids area open in September but it is standard rooms as well. when you book your trip then keep watching for Free Dining to be offered and then call WDW and change your reservation to include FD. we take that over any discounts on rooms as adds up to more savings for us..there are several sites to check this out. and free news letters like mousesavers.com and allears.net and wdwmagic.com and mousefor less.com and touring plan.com. and tons more. we started years ago and stayed in deluxe and have tried them all but AKL and then we tried all moderates and like I said POR was favorite. then we decided we like the open door to outside instead of a hallway after a fire in a hotel once and so it is either moderates or values for us that we have direct exits. we have a pool at home and a hot tub so not wasting time on that while in Disney. and we do not park hop as that waste a lot of park time IMO.

I would take the extra day...I have never stayed at either resort, but if it came down to a whole day, then I would choose POP instaed of POR/CSR.

Have a great first trip, your family will cherish it forever....

Having stayed at both hotels in question, I would vote for the extra day. Coronado Springs is wonderful and my first choice would be mod in general, but if it is coming down to budget, POP is just fine. Fun, clean, easy layout, good buses.

We actually did an 11 night stay there on last trip with 2 kids (4 and 8). We had similar issue, all set to stay at a mod, but then realized we could stay a lot longer if we did a value. Everyday at Disney is precious!!!! Lol.

Yep - we've decided we definitely don't want to lose a day! Friends of ours are going in Feb for their 2nd trip and the first time they stayed at Pop and said it was fine. This time, they decided to save for 3 years instead of 2 and stay at Poly so maybe we'll do a major upgrade in a few years but this will be great for now. And who knows, if something really great happens financially for us in the next year, we can always upgrade!:goodvibes
