Would you cut stay one day short to upgrade to mod from value?

We are planning on our very first ever (for any of us!) trip to Disney in Nov 2013. We want to book our initial packages sometime in the next couple of weeks so I'm trying to nail down at least the basics. We were planning on doing a 6 night/7 day stay and figured we would need to do a value resort - looking most likely at Pop Century with the budget. I've heard (and read) great things about Pop and it looks like a place the kids would have a blast BUT 2 double beds?????:(

So, I was looking around at prices and playing with days/dates and we could stay at either Coronado Springs or POR within our budget IF we cut a day. Is it worth it for more ammenties and space or will we be totally fine at Pop?

FWIW - kids will be 8 and 5 when we travel

At their age, I think they'll be fine with double beds. But for the parents, are you guys going to be fine with double beds? POP is a great fun resort. It's a tough choice. I want my 2 queen beds and pool slide, and the boat ride to DTD but at the same time, I want to stay longer in Disney. I think I want to stay longer in Disney and just deal with 2 double beds. I stayed at POP and would stay there again.

If it is your first trip, I would stay the extra day. You will have so much to see and you will probably be more park commando, so your room is not as important. Keep an eye out for new discounts as you may be able to upgrade then.

The difference between the two doubles and two queens is not enough to lose a day for, IMHO. It is still just one room and one bathroom. There is SO much to do at WDW. You will probably barely be in the room at all if it is your first trip. My advice: be at the park every day when the gate opens and I promise you that everyone will sleep well.

My family did our first ever trip last month, and we stayed at a Value, All Star Sports. We were split across 2 rooms, but my mom & sisters (18 & 7) managed just fine on the double beds and DBF & I were also comfortable on the double.

As others have said, for a first trip, take the extra day! There TRULY is soo much to do, the room is not that important, just for sleeping and getting ready.

Hope you enjoy your trip! :goodvibes

Well first off, you'll never see everything or do everything in one trip to WDW. It's going to take several trips. We've stayed at all of the values before and they were just fine. However, after staying at a couple of moderates, we won't stay at a value again, unless we have to due to finances.

Our next trip is this coming December. Initially we booked for the new Art of Animation resort, but after some debate, we decided to do exactly what you're pondering. We dropped a day and upgraded to the Coronado Springs Resort. For us, the nicer rooms, larger beds, better pools, better food options and much better buses, it is worth it to us to shorten the stay. The value resorts can get extremely busy at the food courts and bus stops and long waits can be frequent.

My advice, upgrade.

I go to WDW 4-6 times a year and usually stay in a Moderate (with CSR and POFQ being tied for my favorites). However, I have also stayed in the Values and several Deluxes (in fact will be at AKL in just a few days:cool1:). Saying all of that, if it was my first trip I'd choose the extra day and stay in a Value (even though I am not fond of any of the Values generally). Your first trip, you are probably not going to be in the resort that much anyway. I know we weren't. Our first ever trip we did a split stay at WL and AKL. It was a big mistake. We were so busy trying to do as much as we could that we never really even saw the room except at night and early in the mornings. We sure didn't get to enjoy any of the amentities at the resort. However, after multiple trips I no longer do commando touring and like to really take my time and enjoy the resort. So would be willing to cut a day, in order to stay at the resort I really wanted. For a first trip, knowing we wouldn't have time to really enjoy the resort amenities I would not. I'd rather have more time in the parks.

Pop is an awesome resort! My family of four did fine with two doubles. I wouldn't lose a day to go to a moderate.

Always choose more time over a room upgrade! You will be too tired at night to notice the size of the bed. We were going to do 11 days at Pop. The only reason we are doing 8 at POR is that hubby ended up not being able to work out the vacation time for us to do 11 days.

I disagree with most. If I have to cut a day to be in a better resort with more comfy beds and amenities I would...

Voting for the extra day, for sure. We're always so tired at WDW it doesn't really matter where we sleep. We crash. I don't know how you're planning to sleep but if you're concerned about space, sleep with one parent and one child in each bed for a little more room. (Of course, it can vary from night to night.) You will really enjoy Pop Century and as others have said, you won't be in the room too much. (On subsequent trips, that can change.) When that 6th day comes, you're going to be really glad you have another day. :goodvibes PS our first stay was at All Star Music and DH and I still say it holds some of our favorite memories. While there, we were able to add an extra day to our stay and it was the best thing ever!

It would be very hard for me to cut out a day, however.........DH and I could never sleep an entire week in a double bed!! But we are both very tall.

I would go with the moderate AND keep the extra day on the reservation. The price difference for 1 extra day may not seem like a big deal after you pay off your package. If it looks like you can't come up with the extra money, you can always take that day off. And, but the time your trip gets closer you may be able to apply some type of discount.

happy planning.

My vote would be to take the extra day. You're going to be so busy with the parks, that any extra hotel ammenties probably wouldn't matter in any case.

Stay another day!! All of you will be so exhausted, overwhelmed and on sensory overload that you'll barely be able to brush your teeth before hitting the beds + you probably won't move all night from exhaustion so a few more inches in a bigger bed wouldn't matter.

If it's your first time there with the kids, I think they'd enjoy POP (and you, too!) The word "better" is in the eye of the beholder. I've stayed with 4 adults in a value and it just didn't matter (one of them was my cranky dad.)

Good luck with your decision and enjoy your trip - lucky kids!!

Never shorten a trip for a room! It is a vacation--savor every moment you can afford and have time available to be at Disney. Each year I have kept adding nights to my trips. I would be sad to take away a night. Stay where you can afford for the maximum amount of time you can afford. Have a fabulous vacation!:goodvibes

I've done Disney on a dime, I've thrown caution to the wind with Deluxe, and alot in between.

Unless the queen bed is just going to be uncomfortable for you and DH (because a good night's sleep at Disney is important for the amount of stuff you'll be doing every day), losing a day isn't worth the upgrade from value to moderate to me.

IF the question were from a mod to a deluxe to lose a day, I'd do it in an instant.

Well said!!! We just added another night to our upcoming trip! :rotfl2:

DH and I stayed at POP last April and were very concerned about the double beds, but we ended up doing fine with them. It was a short trip of only 5 nights, so that may have been a factor. We usually stay Mod or Deluxe, but thought our DGD (age 5) would love POP. I would go for the extra day, though, just because it's your first trip. Good luck!
