Would you consider an amendment to allow Arnold to run for president?

True, but I'm not advocating leaving it as is just for the sake of leaving it as is.

The Constitution was set up that way for a reason -- that reason still exists today. With naturalized US citizens, there is always some small degree of question as to whether their loyalty would be divided should problems arise between the US and their native country. It just presents significant problems to have any doubt whatsoever over the allegiance of the head of the nation.

I agree with jrydberg - leave the consitution alone.

Even if Arnold were a Democrat, I'd still not be for it.

Although Arnold was great last night, I'd still have to say no.
However, wouldn't that burn Ted Kennedy's butt? :teeth:

Was Arnold accused of womanizing since being married? I remember the woman who claimed he made unwanted advances way back when but not anything more recently. I don't believe that warrants a comparison to the likes of Clinton who had such disregard for both his marriage and the presidency that he conducted presidential phone calls with his pants around his ankles.

As long as we are remembering things, let's also remember that there is a big difference between "womanizing" and sexual harrassment.

Arnold is a disgrace. And if the Republicans are interested in elevating him even further, then that makes me very sad.

Oh? There were several women that accused BC of sexual harassment. Jones is one but I can't recall the other name right now. Anyone? Buehler?

Did I miss the trial? Or have you convicted AS in your mind based on the accusations?

Yep, just as sad as the Dems ignoring BC's afterhours Oval Office activities.

A lot of good it did complaining about either one of those men.

The only difference is that BC did it while in office. If that makes it worse or not is a persons opinion.

Nice attempt at a diversion, EB. I do believe Arnold admitted to treating women inappropriately in the past, but what does this have to do with the basic issue here: hypocrisy.

Why revile one person who happens to be a Democrat and salute/praise another who happens to be a Republican when they've both done essentially the same thing?

That would be for the voters to decide. It looks like it didn't matter to the Clinton voters. It didn't matter to the California voters that voted for Arnold.

I honestly think Arnold would make a great president for the US and would applaud an ammendment made to allow him to run.

Nope. Especially not for Arnold. The guy just got elected. Let's see him complete a term before people start in on the "let's get the Terminator in the White House" bandwagon

Another attempt at diversion. Still no one addresses the basic issue: the hypocrisy of the Republicans who revile Clinton but at the same time admire/adore Arnold.

I agree.

I understand your point about bias, however, I think you could also argue that there are people who were born here who have stronger allegiances to other countries, whether it is the country their parents are from, or people like that kid who was fighting with the Taliban.

IMO, I don't think this rule should be changed JUST for Arnold. I think it should be changed for any immigrant, who has lived here a long time, proven themself to be a good leader. This country was founded by immigrants, after all.

ITA.

Should it be changed "for" Arnold? Nah. But I don't think it's out of the question to consider whether it might be time to consider an amendment.

My apoligies for implying this in my post. I didn't want to set up a comparison between the alleged claims of sexual harrassment between the two men (which I acknowledge that I did by the positioning of my first statement and last statement). I only wanted to point toward some peoples choice of words and remind them that there is an important difference between womanizing and sexual harassment.

I also vote "no".

not for Arnold, not for any naturalized citizen of either party.
