Would you buy a toy kitchen for a little boy?

Well for the record, I would and actually did today at Goodwill. DD13 and I found a Little Tikes Cook N Clean kitchen with most of the accessories today for $8 in excellent condition so I nabbed it to put up for DS. The kitchen is gray with blue and hunter green accents. It has the usual kitchen on one side - oven, stove top, microwave and coffee maker and on the other side has a washer, dryer and ironing board.

DH (macho Army guy) was less than thrilled that I got a toy kitchen for his son. Both of my girls loved their toy kitchens and so did all of my nephews and great nephews.

So do you see anything wrong with a little boy playing with a toy kitchen?

From the moment my son could crawl his FAVORITE toys were pots and pans. He is 9 and to this day LOVES to help in the kitchen. I think Bobby Flay and Emeril are bringin' down a whole lot of jack so I say go ahead baby play in the kitchen and when you're rich and famous you can buy Momma a house;)

...t.

I think it's great. It is better than him going into your cabinets and taking out the pots & making lovely music. I still have my daughters kitchen for when the nephews & nieces come over & they all play with it. Manytimes the menu being served it better by the boys then the girls, ha ha

I bought a kitchen for my kids last year (to replace the one we already had). My kids (ds 2.5 and dd 4.5) play with it every single day. My ds LOVES it. So, yes, I would absolutely buy a boy a kitchen.

we bought a kitchen set, with food, pots and pans and all the extras (including a shopping cart) for our 3 boys last year and they all love it. I think my dh had some reservations about it but he kept them to himself because he knows i would go out and get them anyways. they've had it a year and they all still love it. it's alot better than my kids wanting to help me cook with the real stove and oven (which obviousely isen't safe)...now they can "help" cook our meals with their own kitchen.

Our DS2 (almost 3) LOVES his sister's Ariel kitchen. The two of them cook us meals all the time. We had tea and "cookie soup" today! :)

DS is a Dad-parrot. Everything DH does, he wants to do. And DH does all the cooking. My sister was going to get DS the outdoor grill playset for Xmas, but ended up finding something else.

Cooking is unisex, IMO. :)

When my oldest was little I looked EVERYWHERE for a non-pink toy kitchen. There were LOTS of Moms online looking for the same thing. Manufacturers finally caught on a few years ago and started making them in colors other than pink and lavendar. My DH would have been fine with a kitchen as long as it wasn't pink. Both of my older DSs loved going to the neighbors house to play with the ones their DDs had. I've already said a kitchen is on the list of things I am considering for our now 13 month old DS.

That's a long way of saying yes, I would buy a toy kitchen for a little boy. ;)

Anything that inspires imaginative play is a good choice!

Some of the world's best chefs are men; they had to start somewhere. And this little boy will someday become a man who needs to eat; it would be nice if he could cook a bit himself.

My 9 year old son was SO excited that I let him make the Thanksgiving stuffing (showing him step by step how to do it.) I would imagine that it will become his job from this point onward.

Go for it!

I don't have a little boy; but if I did, I would not hesitate buying a kitchen. Some toys my girls have enjoyed over the years...... fishing poles, tool set and work bench, a red and black "boy" bike [that was the one she picked out.], and some Disney Car die cast toy cars. In fact, this is the first year, there isn't a traditionally male toy in the mix. They just wanted dolls this year.

yes, i would buy it for him. i also would buy my daughter a "work bench" if she wanted it. so what?

The kitchen we bought for our then almost 2 year old DGS has been one of the most consistenly used toys we ever got for him. Now that he's about to turn 4 he STILL plays with it on a daily basis. It's been fun watching him develop his skills and imagination. We've gone from Cheerios in teacups to full blown imaginary baking sessions and dinners. Another great value is the kids baking set you can get from Bed, Bath and Beyond for $4.99. It has little baking pans, rolling pin, whisk (I steal that to use) and even a little apron. By all means, boys should have kitchens!!

I totally agree! My DS loves all kinds of toys- he has a big sister, so he is exposed to princesses as well as cars and trucks. We just got rid of our kitchen becuase they were not playing with it anymore, but they did use it a lot for a long time. My DD has pretend tools and my DS has dolls. DH does not mind at all- after all he takes care of our kids, too, and there is no better way to learn than to imitate.

Yes and we have. We bought the white wood learning express one. It's been one of the most popular items we own

Santa is bringing DS(3) a kitchen this year. We haven't made the final choice of which one yet, but we have 2 that are both reasonably priced. (Incidentally, one comes with special food and recipes, I think it is Little Tykes--does anyone have experience with this? One comment on it I read was that you can't replace the "special" food anywhere, so the extra functions become lost as the food goes missing. First hand experience would be welcome.)

Anyway, DH joked that maybe we should get him the "workbench" instead, but we've both seen him at Dr's offices etc., where there's a kitchen. DS goes nuts to play with a kitchen, and it's tough to drag him away. Having his own is a no-brainer of a gift.

Absolutely! And my DD is getting a train table from Santa!

Most absolutely! I have a 2 1/2 yo ds, and he loves playing with his sister's kitchen and both dh and I have no problem with it. We have also bought our dd a tool bench before ds was born. Since I have a 4 yo as well, ds is exposed to dolls and princesses...and he plays dressup with his sister, and just recently dress himself up as snow white!

Absolutely. My brother had one back in the 70's. It had running water!!!

My nephews got one a few years ago for Christmas and they loved it.

We bought our DS who is 3 a kitchen for his birthday. He loves it. DH had some issues, but soon got over them when he saw how much DS loved his gift. Our son wants to be a chef when he grows up and he loves to pretend to make us all sorts of yummy things to eat! The kitchen isn't pink. It is VERY beige and green. In fact I think it looks more like a kitchen for a boy.

I think it is great that parents will buy toys that are traditionally for either boy or girl for their kids.

Yesterday at Thanksgiving Dinner, DD5 took her Ariel playset (with all her little princesses) Nephew 3 1/2 played with her for hours. Now this was truly a 'show stopper' because this little boy is ALL boy! Already rides a 4 wheeler, works on the farm with dad and poppa...etc. My brother (his father) was like 'wow' he is really into that.... I assured him that it was ok,,, our DS16 played with his girl cousin and her Barbies/babies when he was little and he is alright! Actually he is a great big brother to both of his sisters. (oh yeah he is in wrestling right now... but is not above 'accepting' an invitation to a 'tea party' for one of his little sisters. )

Absolutel!

I have 3 boys - my oldest is a sports jock and plays in a Premier Soccer league and will be travelling to Europe to a soccer academy this summer. My little one is also very talented. He is only 6 years old and has joined a U9 Premier Soccer league as well. My middle one just quit his hockey team and has started cooking and art classes. My husband is a chef so I'm sure he gets a lot of this from his dad but I feel that whatever they enjoy you have to encourage it. :goodvibes
