Would you buy a toy kitchen for a little boy?

I have my toy stove in the kitchen for DS (2) to play with. It's a wooden one my dad made me that's red & white. DS enjoys playing with it. Then again, I have a male cousin in culinary school right now, so it seems odd to not allow a boy to play in the kitchen!

After buying our boys a kitchen this weekend, I had to reply! My parents came in from out of town and gave all the grandkids money and wanted to go shopping with them. I told my husband that since my three year old loves to play with the kitchen set when he sees one, I would like to get a set for them. My one year old is always pulling out the pots and pans so I thought lets pull thier money and get them a nice set. My husband was totally fine with that. Now he is very into sports and is a guys kind of guy. Loves to work on the house and construct things and he thought it was great for the boys. So my mom and sisters go out to target to get the nice wooden kitchen and buy the pots and pans. We bring it home and put it together. It was so funny because my dad was sitting on the couch next to me and ask me quietly why would I buy a kitchen set for two boys. I laughed and my sister chimed in some of the best chefs are men. Just watch the food channel. I told him at least the kitchen was blue. I was surprised my dad who had three girls had something to say. It was very funny! Needless to say my boys love and have not put the kitchen stuff down. I am just happy to have a break from Thomas the Train!!!

I would if we had the room. DS LOVES the play kitchen at my sister's house.

If my DS didn't have a little sister, he probably would have gotten one for a present at some time or another. I don't think there is anything wrong with it all!

BTW, my DD has the exact kitchen that you bought and DS & DD both love it!!

I think ds was about 18 months when my parents got him his, because he always wanted me to hold him up to the real stove and pretend to cook! I did request it to not be pink, however - it is white, red & purple mainly. He doesn't use it much anymore, but he still likes to help me cook - just yesterday, he helped me make muffins. :)

That's too funny! We were just discussing this same thing last night. We had a bunch of kitchen sets that I passed onto my niece and my sister asked if we wanted them back for our 2 year old son. We said yes and I'm thinking of getting a kitchen set, too. Like some of the others said, my husband does alot of the cooking so why wouldn't my DS want one? .........and by the way ladies, if we are not being sexist, who says he can't own a pink one? .......Not that I would want one, I prefer grey! haha.

I bought one for my son when he was two, he is fourteen now. It was one of his favorite toys, along with the tool bench right beside it! My hubby was not real happy when I bought it, but that did not go real far. Let us know how he likes it!

I am usually just a lurker, but I had to join to respond to this thread. Hope that's okay.
Definitely!!! My husband does 99% of the cooking at our house, so my girls associate cooking more with boys anyway.
I have three girls, but I would definitely buy a kitchen for a boy.
My 3 year old daughter was given the chance to decorate her new room and she chose CARS, and not Sally either. She likes Lightning and Mater. We have probably watched the movie 100 times. My mom wanted to know why we didn't do princesses or something more girly, I told her it was her room and she wanted CARS, so that's what she got.
My 9 year old loves pirates, but she also loves sparkly lip gloss and clothing.
The 3 year old is getting a kitchen set for Christmas too.
By the way, we have a Lego table, train table, and workbench, as well as dress-up boxes, barbies, and baby dolls.
Kids just like to play and use their imagination, they don't care about "boy" or "girl" toys. It's all about fun.

We have 5 right now, all for DS4 and he LOVES them! He got the newest a week or two ago for Grandma's house and his 11 year old cousin (boy) was also playing in it with him. Oh, and all of them are not girly whatsoever, all little tikes and step2 older ones except this new wooden one which is red, blue and stainless steel.

Last year my DS (7 at the time) asked for and received and easy bake oven! In our house my husband does all the baking and also makes amazing waffles. Our kids (DS8, DS6 and DD4) all love to cook! I say YES...give him the kitchen.

Well for the record, I would and actually did today at Goodwill. DD13 and I found a Little Tikes Cook N Clean kitchen with most of the accessories today for $8 in excellent condition so I nabbed it to put up for DS. The kitchen is gray with blue and hunter green accents. It has the usual kitchen on one side - oven, stove top, microwave and coffee maker and on the other side has a washer, dryer and ironing board.

DH (macho Army guy) was less than thrilled that I got a toy kitchen for his son. Both of my girls loved their toy kitchens and so did all of my nephews and great nephews.

So do you see anything wrong with a little boy playing with a toy kitchen?

I would too, in a split second. I wish DS would ask for one instead of all of the Star Wars/Transformer/Power Ranger stuff! BTW, my Brother, who is also a macho Army infantryman, cooks up a storm in the kitchen. His single buddies always depend on him feeding them on the weekends! ;) Your DH will get over it!

Yes, I did on my son's 2nd Christmas. He loved it and it then was handed down to his brother and sister.

I bought one for my son when he was 3. He's now almost 5 and still plays with it. My husband wasn't to thrilled either until he saw how much he liked it. I don't know what the big deal is with some people. In real life guys cook too!

I'm glad you got a good deal. The prices can be so ridiculous. I got a little tikes from my neighbors garage sale. That brand really lasts.

Have no fear you will not be setting for DS up for conflict I can attest to that! I purchased my DS age 2 at the time a great little sink set as he loved to help me wash dishes as well as a pilsbury dough boy cooking set.

To see the look on my Dad's and DH faces you think I put him in a pink tutu the horror and the remarks were mind blowing! Anyway, DS is now 11 and a very healthy 11 yo boy. He admires the young ladies very much and is assuredly not conflicted whatsoever in his attraction to them.

He still loves to cook just not clean and loves the food network channel and hopes one day to be a chef as well as a NFL player as well as a palentologist as well as a DIsney imagineer or creating his own theme park like Jurasic Park. Sounds like a regular guy to me.

Both of my boys had one. They also had a vacuum too.

Our nephew (3) is getting a kitchen for Christmas (although his father is not thrilled). He had the fun of buying the food and a shopping cart to go with it:rotfl:

:goodvibes This made me think of my son's little kitchen. When he was little, about 3, all he wanted was a kitchen. DH wouldn't hear of it. Which was weird because DH cooks. His dad and Grandad owned restaurants and did all the cooking in their families. :confused3 Anyway, DH vetoed buying the little kitchen. For some reason he thought it was too girly.

Then one afternoon, I saw a green and yellow Little Tikes kitchen sitting next to my neighbor's trashcans. They were getting rid of it! Under cover of darkness, I took that kitchen set. I bleached it to a fare-thee-well and gave it to my son. DH just said i couldn't *buy* a kitchen--he didn't say anything about stealing one!

DS played with his little kitchen every day, all day long for about 3 yrs until he lost interest and gave it away to another child. He's 21 now and he goes to college, has a wonderful girlfriend, writes music, and holds a steady job. I don't think the kitchen set held him back.

My son had a toy kitchen too and LOVED IT!! He will probably outgrow it faster than a girl would (mine did). But while it's there it makes him feel like he's "big stuff";)

We are getting one for our Ds(2yo). He is also getting a train table.
I do like a lot of the kitchens now don't have pink (just because I am not fond of it myself, lol).
It does irk me that the shopping cart we got him is in a very girly looking box with a girl on it. He also has a cabbage patch (but, it is wearing a Colts uniform).
Dh may think it is odd but, he had an easy bake oven as a kid so really no room to say anything.
