Would you break up with someone because of a psychic reading?

My friend saw a psychic last weekend.
She went to the reading with her long time boyfriend, but only she went in to see the psychic. He just waited for her.
The psychic told my friend she sensed the boyfriend was a leech, she was in danger, and shouldn't be around him anymore.

My friend is now avoiding the boyfriend. She's scared because of the reading.

I've never been to a psychic. I'm not even sure if any of what she paid for is real.

So, I thought I'd ask here.

Would you break up with someone because of a psychic reading?

I wouldn't go to a psychic reading, much less ACT on one! She was probably looking for a good excuse to do it, anyway.

disneysnowflake, please tell your friend that the psychic made it all up. The pyschic is in business to make money. She doesn't really have the ability to predict the future or read someone's mind. At best, she is trained to pick up on social cues and information her victim has inadvertently released. Pyschics are not real - they make things up.

The psychic most likely picked up on the fact that the bf was sceptical about the whole thing and told her all that so she would dump him and continue to come back and PAY her more money. As long as he is around he will probably not support her desire to see the psychic.

Most "psychics" are really very observant people who get their "readings" by watching the play of emotion on their customers faces, watching their body language when asked a question. If this was a Tarot Card reading it is easy to come up with minute details just by watching the other person and their reaction to the cards. The reason most readings are pretty accurate is because the person being read are giving the "psychic" the answers without even knowing they are doing it.

Like one other poster said she probably was already thinking along those lines before she went in there. A few carefully worded questions from the "psychic" and boom leech boyfriend.

And no, I would not base any decisions on a psychic reading.

You said this is her long time boyfriend. Do you know him and what do you think?? Personally, I wouldn't want to be with somebody would take the advice of a stranger's observations regarding such a life altering decision.

The only psychic I'll trust is the one who gives me the winning lotto numbers.

I think that people who believe psychics are so dumb that I wouldn't even bother trying to talk her out of it. She's a lost cause there.

No. As has been said they are just playing off your reactions. Not only would I not break up I'd advise her to never see a psychic again. Next thing she'll know this so called psyshic will be telling her she is cursed and she pays her a large amount of money she can help her get rid of it.

Okay, I know it's not your fault but this brings up a whole cup of angry tea for me!!

One of my old co-workers was pregnant with her boyfriend's child. They were going to get married after she had the baby because of some insurance policy or something, I forget exactly.

Seriously one of the SWEETEST girls you will ever meet in your life. Really struggled with money, she was having a complicated pregnancy and was raising her little sister (who stole from her frequently, too!) so I just felt really bad for her.

Go to work one day and she's fighting back tears.
Her boyfriend walked out on her because his mother went to a psychic and told her that the baby wasn't her sons!!
She swore upon her life that it was his but he still left her, without a dime. Last I knew she'd had to quit because of the pregnancy and was really struggling to get by.
Ever since then I've hated psychics!!

I've known the boyfriend since junior high. He's a really nice guy.

Now it's bothering me that the psychic called him a leech. This guy was a passenger in an auto accident in high school and lost his leg. I hope she didn't call him a leech based on that. The psychic saw him when he walked in with my friend. He has a great job and works hard.

I'm going to mention the whole paying money for being cursed thing to my friend, too. I wouldn't doubt it if she'd fall for that.

OK, but really your friend could have solved that immediately with a DNA test. No need to be so stupid about it that you couldn't easily prove the "psychic" wrong with a little science. As a matter of fact, you should get in touch with her and tell her to force that issue. She needs child support!!!!

A quick DNA test could settle that. If she wants to bother with it, she might get child support, too.

I think the guy just gave her that as a reason to walk out. Sounds better than, "because I just don't care about you or my child."

Sadly, I switched jobs before she had the baby (It was too early for DNA tests I think at that point in her pregnancy)
I've got no clue what happened to her. I got a baby-shower invitation a few months later but wasn't able to go. Her cell phone has since been shut off and the last I even heard of her was a check-cashing company calling the bank I work for now to verify funds on the check she wrote them.

Nowhere near being good. :sad2:

I was told by a psychic that I should leave the man I was with because I was going to marry my ex-boyfriend. I informed her that my ex was gay (which he is) and now six years later I am happily married to the man she told me to leave. If I would have listened to her I wouldn't be married to a man who loves Disney just as much as I do! The only psychic I would listen to is Sylvia Browne!

I am one. I would never to break up with there boyfriend. That's just plain wrong.

Hmmm... I went to a psychic once.

She told me I would meet a dark and handsome older man. Imagine that!!

My DH is four years older than me and has dark hair so I guess she was right!! :rotfl:
