Would you break up with someone because of a psychic reading?

I went to a psychic in high school once. She gave me a long speech about how I had a boyfriend right now, Yes?, and that I thought he was the world. She told me that even though we had been together a long time and I was very enamored of this boy and thought we would last past high school that we would not and I should be prepared to break up with him. She was on this rant for about 5-10 minutes, as I made sure to sit stoicly. Then she asked confidently "You know the boy I speak of , yes?" To which I replied I had not had a boyfriend anytime during the past year. The look on her face was priceless! She stuttered for a moment before telling me I would meet someone soon then break up with him by the end of senior year.... Sounding like some dumb advice she probabky gave to all high school. My friend Heidi refused to see the psyhic because she was sure the woman would say the same about her boyfriend.

After that whole fiasco she told me that my father would die within a year and I should start saying goodbye to him and resolving issues. :scared1: I didn't believe her but it still creeped me out a bit. 8 yrs later my father is going strong. Sheesh.

Back to the boy subject... funny enough the next boy that I met (in college) ended up becoming my husband!

Would I break up with my boyfriend? No. However, as others have said, psychics are good at picking up subtle clues about people and their relationships and issues. I would think about what she said, and maybe see if there's a grain of truth in her words. For example, if the guy never had a ton of money, it might not bother me at first--but if he had a good paying job and I was always filling his gas tank because "I love him"--well, that's a pretty good sign of what a marriage might be like.

My point is, when you're dating, theses things can seem quirky and charming, and a guy who's a fun date might not be the best choice to raise a family with.

So, I would consider the advice, just like I would consider any other advice, but if, after thought, I felt the psychic had no clue, then I would laugh it off and go on.

There are certainly a lot of charlatans out there, so I wouldn't necessarily believe anything any one of them said unless they demonstrated some kind of genuine predictive ability.

My father's aunt was a psychic. She didn't make money off it, but she could scare the bejeezus out of him and his friends, and she occasionally helped find missing children, etc.

My dad did go to one psychic once who told him that my brother would have a bicycle accident but he'd be okay -- when he got home that night my mom had taken my brother to the doctor because he'd ridden his bike into a tree. And my friend consulted an animal psychic who told her about a bizarre set of circumstances (later confirmed with videotape) going on in her barn at night that was disturbing the horses.

So I've had enough experience with people who genuinely had some gift to believe it's possible, but widely faked.

I wouldn't go to a psychic reading, much less ACT on one! She was probably looking for a good excuse to do it, anyway.

I agree with this...there had to be some underlying issue here because

a) why would you go to a psychic and ask in the first place but for some lingering doubt

and...

b) she has to agree with the psychic on some level or she's ripe for being snatched up by a cult...

a psychic could tell me my kids will drive me insane and I need to run away to Mexico, and albeit there are days I'd be tempted, I'd never actually do it, kwim?

I had a psychic reading, I did it for fun. Then some of the stuff came true. I just sat there and listened while she went on. She also tape recorded the whole thing and gave it to me. So the accuracy wasn't based on my faulty memory.

That being said, unless a psychic gave me the winning PB numbers, it's just a fun thing to do and giggle about. I'd never base my decision on a relationship or life from advice from someone like that. I'll stick with Dad.

No, I wouldn't.

With that said, my aunt insists she has pyshic abilities and she told my dad right after she first met my ex-husband that she gives it 5 years. We separated exactly 5 years after we met. :confused3 I'm sure it was just coincidence though. ;)

LOL! Heck NO I wouldn't let a psychic determine any decisions I make.

I was out with a friend of mine one night many years ago. There was a psychic in a little store front next to the bar we were in. My friend wanted to go in so we did. The psychic told her that she and I would be married soon and have three beautiful children. I barked out with laughter and my friend just sighed, picked up her money from the table and said, "Some psychic you are. He's gay you idiot."

Oh, and we never did get married. She wasn't my type.

I've been to one particular psychic twice. This woman came up with some very specific things - for example, she came out with a new friend's screen name and where he lived. She told me things that I didn't know, which I asked my friend a few days later, and he confirmed. She has vocalized my inner thoughts word for word, which she also did recently with another friend who came to her for a reading.

While I do believe that many "psychics" are fake, I also believe that there are a few who are the real thing. I feel like I got lucky.

I saw a psychic actually at the Boardwalk (back when it first opened, they used to have them. They don't any more). Anyway, she "read my palm" and told me that because I have a faint life line, I'm going to "die very unexpectedly" in my 40s. Not a very Disney-ish thing to say to a 13-year old, huh? :rolleyes1

Crap@! How old are you now? Kind of on that same situation, a few years ago when my dd was four, she said,"mommy, how old are you?" I said, "I'm 35." She then said, "Next you'll be 36, then 37 and then 38...and that's when you'll die." :scared1: She then casually skipped out of the room. Well, I was so relieved when 38 came and went.:rotfl: Sorry for the threadjack...carry on.

 I'm 24 now. I figure I've got at least 15 years left.

Seriously though, it's a good thing I don't believe in that sort of stuff.

No.

I've had a couple of psychic readings and they were both hilariously far off the mark. I don't take that stuff seriously at all.

Oh my Gosh what a ripoff!

I have had several "readings" for funsies. I can look back on some things and go, well that played out right according to her. But most of it never came true.

From my experience with those with some sort of Extra Sensory is that the true ones often segregate themselves from society and don't let on what they know and how they know it.

Imagine the hell that would be if you could find out everything that was going to happen (both good and bad) about someone. Live with the burden of telling them or not tell them and watch it play out... Sticky business indeed. I do think there is something out there beyond what our eyes can see, but to be a true psychic wouldn't fun.

i'm pretty open-minded about things, so i've never really had a belief one way or the other about psychics(who am i to say if they can or can't see things?) but if i were your friend, and she never had any problems with the boyfriend, i'd just keep it up if she still wants the relationship. not everyone is 100% right all of the time.
