I just received a LBE from Japan.

The 100 Years Classics pins are beautiful!
Stunning really.

So here's my question... why aren't the Disney Store pins
here in the states, half as beautiful or detailed? I find the poster
pins to be down right BLAH! Aren't they all made in the same place?

What ever is marketing thinking?

I'd love some feedback.

Kathy

Well, why do *you* think there is such a variation?

I have my opinions but they aren't exactly "positive." But what incentive does Disney have to make prettier pins in the US when these ones will sell regardless? It's the same answer I have to why do the DL mystery pins look like they do.

I fully agree... the japanese pins are so beautiful and that is the reason i changed the focus of my collection to the japanese pins. I am right now close of completing my M&P pin set ( only 4 missing of the pins released so far) and they are really really pretty and detailed pins. I liked most of the disneyland rack pins ( jungle cruise, pirates..) they are large, colourful and i really do not see any reason to trade for the mystery pins... i collect the classics, theme parks, works of art, villains, donald and special pins and i fully agree, first time i did see the classics pin ( may at DTD i traded fo the first one) i had to have this series... this is what we want..
What i can say is : let Disney know how you feel about all their "mysteries" :-)))))
Happy trading and greetings to all my japanese friends :-)

Stephan

I do like ALOT of the Japanese pins and have been trading for many of them lately. I also like many of the DL pins, especially their rack pins. The newest Jafar pin from WDW pales in comparison to the one DL released back inFebruary. As for the DS pins......I do like the poster series, the Belle pin and some of the B & W ones. I was disappointed in the Castle pin. Though at $4-$5 they will make good traders.

I am anxious to hear about the quality of the DLP pins.

I agree with you, Kathy. Same thing happened with the Disney beanies. Japan and the UK had REALLY cute ones!

Well to answer a few of the questions...

Disneyland Mystery pins are made from existing artwork. In other words they are pins that are take offs of Clipart. There is no artist like the WDW ones.

Every Disney area... DCL, TDL, WDW, DL & DCA, DLP and even TDS as well as a a few others do there own pins. They all have design teams and people who make them. So while you may see the same "Core" pins at the parks most of the LE are designed and approved by each dept in Disney.

As to why WDW pins are not as nice. Well WDW has a great number of pins tha are very nice. But they also have 2 to 4 times the amout of pins that the others have. Look at the so called "Auction Value". Most of the most sought after pins in the market are WDW ones. So I would say that WDW just has to many to chose from.

And even within WDW the different parks and DTD have there own "Pin Teams". It would be nice if they all (Disney world wide) got together and had just one team. But how much fun would it be if you could get all the pins in one place...
