Would you accept $50,000 extra income a year if....

Doesn't matter what links I provide, you will refute them. I believe it's an issue, you obviously don't. As for your EPA link, they are also the govermental regulatory agency who told us that the air around Ground Zero was safe after 9/11.

Sounds like a cop-out to me. If you have links with evidence that proves what you believe than there would be no way to refute them.

Google is your friend, you can find this info on other sites, not just the EPA. You can't change the physics of what radiation is and its effects no matter who is posting it on their website.

No- and no

We live rural and one of the distant neighbor's slapped a cell tower up - we just see the blinking light. When I drove by I was surprised where they put it up. Right next to their house! And they have acres. I certainly wouldn't buy that house.

I think it does more than $50,000 devalutation of your property. So Nope no thank you.

Heck yes we would! Until I see hardcore evidence that the radiation causes cancer, I absolutely would. We don't make enough money, and for the PP who said "go back to school" how about you go petition Congress to pay the military better? BTW, this is what the American Cancer Society says about cell phone towers

First, the energy level of radio waves is relatively low. Electromagnetic energy comes in "packages" that are referred to as photons. Photon energy is measured in electron volts (eV), the energy gained by an electron after accelerating over 1 volt. The energy in the photons depends directly on the frequency, and decreases as one moves down the electromagnetic spectrum. X-rays have about 1,000 eV of energy, while the photon energy of radio waves from cellular phone towers is about one millionth of an eV, not enough to alter molecules in the body.

A second issue has to do with wavelength. Radio waves have a wavelength of approximately 1 foot in air, and about 2 inches in body tissue. As a result, RF radiation can only be concentrated to about an inch or two in size. This makes it unlikely that the energy from radio waves could be concentrated on a small bit of tissue, affecting individual cells.

A third issue has to do with the magnitude of exposure. Measurements taken around typical cellular phone towers show ground level power densities well below the recommended limits. Moreover, public exposure near cell phone towers is not significantly different than background levels of RF radiation in urban areas from other sources, such as radio and television broadcast stations.

For these reasons, cell phone antennas or towers are unlikely to cause cancer.

What does military pay have to do with going back to school? I took out loans for school, as did dh, and most everyone I know. I didn't expect it to be paid for by anyone but me, and I didn't get married and decide to try to start a family until I finished school and made enough to support one.

BTW, I was born overseas as my dad was in the air force, my uncle was in Vietnam and dh (army reserves) has been to Iraq and leaves for Afghanistan in about 4 weeks, so it's not like I'm not mindful of the military. Military pay has nothing to do with going to school though.

I still wouldn't get a cell phone tower for some extra money, unless I was absolutely desperate.

He can't do his job as an officer. He would have to go into a completely different field and would likely not even do a job other than being in command of people. FWIW I have my bachelors and I'm working on my masters degree. I'm well aware of what loans can be like, I'm fortunate to have the GI bills and scholarships.

At DH's work they had several antennas on the roof and they also have big warning signs everywehere, about not to stay for a long period of time under the antennas because of the radiation.

Which has more to do with legal liability then actual need. What happens is someone from the office goes up to the roof to smoke every day, several times/day. Then in 2 years has lung cancer--not caused by the excessive smoking mind you but the "radiation" from the tower .

Thats because the radiation is thermal and will heat human tissue, which can cause damage, its just not the same kind of cellular damage that comes from gamma rays.
Obviously the closer you are, like right next to it on the roof, the higher *dose* you will get.

Well I won't take any chances with those antennas. The cell phone antennas i know is another story.

I asked DH last night in the car and he said "Heck they can build TWO!".

Also, the cell tower companies usually require you to allow them to build some sort of access road across your property to the tower. Our "neighboor" with the tower gets something like $1000/month for his tower plus he gets to siphon power from it if he loses power in a storm. This is according to DH.

Here's the link to the entire stance of the American Cancer Society. http://www.cancer.org/docroot/PED/content/PED_1_3X_Cellular_Phone_Towers.asp?sitearea=PED Interpret it as you will, as it seems to flip flop back and forth, but here's the part that sticks out for me:

The Bottom Line...

Cellular phone towers, like cellular phones themselves, are a relatively new technology, and we do not yet have full information on health effects. In particular, not enough time has elapsed to permit epidemiologic studies. There are some theoretical reasons why cellular phone towers would not be expected to increase cancer risk, and animal studies of RF have not suggested a risk of cancer. People who are concerned can ask for measurements of RF near cellular phone towers to be sure exposures do not exceed recommended limits.

As others have said, we are exposed to all kinds of radiation each day. However, I wouldn't take money from someone and be comfortable knowing I may have increased that risk. I don't believe we know everything there is to know, so I'd err on the side of caution.

As I said, every link you provide or I do, can and will be refuted. For me it's simply a matter of personal preference, which is how the original question was posed. I just have a problem with people who would accept money and move out (wonder why if there's no exposure :confused3) then potentially expose others, all for the almighty dollar. And I don't buy "well if I don't someone else will". I could say the same about anything in life. That doesn't make it right IMHO.
