Would you accept $50,000 extra income a year if....

Nope, not for any amount of money. It's not worth my health and that of my family. There have been studies I've seen on TV recently that show that you shouldn't even leave your cell phone on and carry it on your side, because they think it's messing with people's reproductive organs or talking too long can cause brain issues. You think I'd want a tower on my roof, 24-7, 365? No way, no how. And leaving in an urban environment, I would sue a neighbor who chose to make that decision.

On my house--not a chance.

On my property if my property was large enough--totally fine with it.

However my less than quarter of an acre would not be sufficient and as someone said it would just bring down the neighborhood.

Yup, and getting out of bed is the most dangerous thing the vast majority of ppl do all day. Seriously!! its a statistical fact. But I still do that. Honestly, if I let that Science for the public interest group run my life(or whatever its called) I'd pull the covers over my head and die. Almost everything we do has risks of some sort. Better to live my life today cause who knows what's coming round the bend tomorrow.

Several years ago we visited Lake Tahoe and were climbing Mt. Rose with the kids. As we approached the summit, there were warning signs about radiation. It turned out to be a microwave tower, so no, I don't think I would want it on my house. I don't know how closely cell towers are related to microwave towers but they both relay calls.

No, as i'm sure the legal fees from my neighbor’s suing me would be a lot more
If there were no restrictive covenants related to this and it was inline with local codes, the neighbors would have no legal footing.

Recent studies have complaetely debunked that myth.

They are both towers. That is pretty much the limit in how closely that they are related.

But the real issue is, dogs don't emit radiation.
But it FEELS like that dog does. ;)

I hadn't thought about that.

Heck, for $50,000 per year, we could move and reap the benefits of the money for years to come. Darn it for liking my neighbors though. (Except the ones with the noisy beagle.)

I'm on the fence hhmmm I would Love the money but on my roof?? maybe on my land if I had enough but I have 1/2 an acre ....yea that is what I'd do...:goodvibes

Yes, but she said $50,000 a year, so if you stay at least 5 years that's $250,000 which could make a difference.
The reason I'm not sure I would do it is because of the neighbors. It will drop their house value also, and they won't be getting the extra income.

I've lived next to a neighbor who we did not get along with, and believe me, there is almost nothing worse. So I'm not sure I'd be willing to do something that could cause problems with my neighbor. The old say "money can't buy happiness" may apply in this situation.

Yep, I see that now.

I still don't think I'd like glowing in the dark, though. ;)

Would you accept $50,000 a year extra income if a phone company paid you to put a cell tower on the roof of your house to service the area?

Yes.

My dad only got free wireless when a company asked to put the wireless atenna and "router" on his house. I'd say you're getting a much better deal.

Yep, but I have 25 acres. There IS a cell tower on my "neighbors" farm about 1/4 mile away. I use it often as a focal point when I am teaching my riding students to jump ("Eyes on the top of the tower!")

I am fairly certain the guy with the tower on his property told me that the company had to get permission from the surrounding farms to put the tower up.

No way. I wouldn't even have to think about it. Not on my house, not on my property.

On my house? Nope, not happening. If I had lots of acreage like my parents, I'd consider it, but only at a distance far from the house.

We have alot of acreage, on the property yes on my house, hmm don't know about that one. Dh would probably say yes.:lmao:

Not unless they also paid up front for an engineering survey and the additional structural reinforcement that it would require to allow the house to safely carry the weight.

Cell towers are HEAVY, and they are subject to wind stress. I've never heard of putting one on an ordinary residential structure, only on top of office buildings that can take that sort of load and are already built tall. An office building might be designed with that kind of vertical load redundancy, but a house ordinarily is not. There would also have to be structural compensation to dampen the horizontal load that the wind would exert -- unless you don't have any problem with fans of large guy cables anchored in a circle all around the building.

There are also issues with making sure that all that is properly grounded and insulated; otherwise if you get a lightning strike, the resulting conducted heat could set the house on fire.

Yep, the more that I think about it, the more certain I am that I would definitely insist that they pay for an independent engineer's evaluation before I signed any contracts.

Did you see the killjoy thread?

Heck yes I would. If it's considered safe to have one on a roof, and won't damage the house in any way, you betcha! :thumbsup2
