I think if someone wants to allow a cell tower on their roof, unless they are in one of those strange housing areas that have a million-and-one "rules", then it isn't any of their neighbor's business.

$50,000 per year is a lot to turn down just because some neighbors might not like it.

I would do it in a heartbeat if we had that opportunity presented to us.

Its not about the neighbors being happy or unhappy with the tower, the debate is, would the microwave radiation affect the neighbors in any harmful way if they are in a certain distance of the tower.

I would only do this if I was planning to RENT out the house after the tower was up. With full disclosure to the tenants that the tower was there and that I am not held responsible or liable for their safety or any issues which result from the cell tower. Then, I'd make the lease only a couple years at a time and boot the current tenants out every couple of years, and replace with totally new tenants, just in case. I wouldn't want any illnessess resultinjg from long-term exposure on my conscience.

My friend has one on her father's property which wraps around her land. The phone company said she has to provide 24 hour access to the tower through her yard and past the pasture. (it's a weird layout)
People come and go to the tower all the time, it's annoying.

thats exactly where we live...we have a million and one rules
seriously our by-laws look like a phonebook...Even if we found a loop hole, these folks have some good lawyers (actually that’s part of the reason we moved in, our last neighborhood was a nightmare)

I can *assure* you that *everyone* in my neighborhood would sue over a tower on my roof. Many in the neighborhood are lawyers and would salivate at the idea. I wouldn't blame them at all. Who strives to live in a beautiful neighborhood and works hard to pay for the privilege only to have it ruined with an eyesore. No, not happening!

Yup, and getting out of bed is the most dangerous thing the vast majority of ppl do all day. Seriously!! its a statistical fact. But I still do that. Honestly, if I let that Science for the public interest group run my life(or whatever its called) I'd pull the covers over my head and die. Almost everything we do has risks of some sort. Better to live my life today cause who knows what's coming round the bend tomorrow.

An interesting point is that federal law PROHIBITS local governments from denying permission for a cell tower based on health concerns. They cannot even consider health issues or possible risks.

In our town a cell tower was recently installed (one of the ones that is supposed to look like a 120 foot tall tree ). The neighbors fought it, raising health concerns. The town denied a permit but it was overturned because of this federal law and the tower is there today.

This is why I'd strongly consider it. If I said no, chances are one of my neighbors would say yes, so I'd still have to look at it and deal with the radiation....I may as well have it on my own house (although I'd try to see if they would put it on the shed instead) and get the 50K per year.

Heck, nobody said I had to LIVE in the house....in this market, you could find a decent rental property and stash away a nice retirement/Disney fund.

I'm not concerned about my neighbors... they are the worst I've ever seen and I really wouldn't care about bringing the value of their home down, they're that terrible.

I would just be concerned about the health problems associated with the tower... I wouldn't want anyone who have to endure that because of my greed.

As it is now, I can see 2 cell towers from my house and when I find a spot that I an make a call, I can't move from that spot because the reception is so bad.

I've tried 3 of the major carriers and none of them has made a difference in reception.

I'd love to have a tower on my roof if I could get rid of my landline.

Have you tried a wireless booster? We used to have to put our AT&T phones by the window to get reception. Then I found this wireless booster on Amazon and OMG...what a difference! I now get 5 bars all over my apt....I was only getting 3 bars by the window before.

No chance. That's not all that much money, and I'm not purposefully exposing my family to radiation right over our heads. I don't use my cell phone unless necessary, and won't answer it if I'm home. That's what our landline is for, perfect reception and doesn't need a radiation exposing tower.

Whatever federal law may be, my point was that, as a mother, I can't seen someone willingly exposing someone else's family to something harmful and laughing all the way to Disney World about. I guess everyone has their price, and for some people it seems to be $50k a year.
