Would TIW card make sense for us?

We are heading back to WDW in Aug. This is our 9th annual trip. We have always done the DDP. This year DD will be 10 and considered an adult for food. She does not eat that much. I can't see paying for the DDP for her at adult rate. My 2 DS could easily eat an adult portion at her age-- not her. We will only have one under 10. Its me, DH, ds14, ds12, dd10 and ds6. We are starting to research the TIW card.

Last trip we found that we didn't eat the desserts -- had too much food and kept forgetting to use the snack credits till the day we left. We all have AP's too. We do like to sit for a TS for a dinner-- gives us a chance to cool off in the hot august heat. I am also toiling with the idea of skipping a few TS to have QS for some dinner meals.

We are planning on being in the world for 11 days. split stay at POR and AKV. We plan on doing breakfast in the room for both stays. Is a toaster allowed in the room? Also planning on bringing my Kuerig to make coffee and oatmeal. We will be driving so no big deal to put them in the van.

Would the TIW make sense or would we be okay with just an AP discount? Thought I am not sure bc I read AP applies for up to 3 people in the party and we are a party of 6.

We are planning to return in 2014 but not sure if it will be less than a yr from this trip. Might be the same time frame ( we have to be back for HS football season).

Any suggestions ?

The TIW for DVC members and AP holders is $100. The discount at the participating restaurants is 20%. There is an automatic 18% gratuity. You need to spend a minimum of $500 to break even on the cost of the card. With the six of you for 11 days, I would think that would not be too difficult to do. The nice thing is that you don't have to all get dessert and you can share some appetizers. The discount also covers alcoholic beverages. There are 3 CS restaurants at AK that participate in the plan. Most all of the lounges at the various resorts participate. It also works at POR. Here is the TIW website:

The card is actually valid for more than 12 months, but not more than 13. For example, in your signature, it indicates that your 2013 trip starts 7/22/13. Therefore, your TIW card would be good through Aug 31, 2014. So, you may easily be able to get a second trip in on this one card.:thumbsup2 You will want to purchase the card when you get there, rather than in advance, because it is activated at the time of purchase. It can be purchased at any Guest Services location and you will need to show your AP or DVC card to get the TIW card. We love ours, and there are only 3 of us, with our DS being only 6. We definitely spend less, and eat less, than when we did the DDP.

This year we have the same concern, the youngest is turning 10 and does not eat that much. In the past, we have always been ahead with the DDP, but I am going to the TIW card. I think it will be best. As we normally go for 2 weeks in a year, the $500 breakeven point will not be a concern with 4 of us

Since you are staying for 11 nights, IMO, the TiW card is the way to go for your party of 6. You will be pleased to see how "free" you feel - no need to worry about using up credits, ordering the most expensive items or overeating to "get your money's worth". Eat what you want, when you want, at pretty much any TS restaurant in WDW.

You'll still need to make ADRs to be sure of getting into the restaurants of your choice, but you can also cancel without worrying about it if you just don't feel like eating that day.

My wife and I use the TIW card and it is worth it for us. Since you are staying 11 days I believe it would be worth it for you.

We usually have a late TS lunch, with your AP or DVC member card there are several TS (lunch) rest. that offer the same food discounts (except alcohol) as the TIW card. You can check those perks out to see if that could be a option for you.

At akv Dvc studios there is a toaster

Op here. Thanks for all the useful information. I heard conflicting info on how long the TIW card lasted. Our new dates are 7/29 to 8/8. Would b great to get a second trip out if it,

Was looking to see if a toaster was allowed at POR. We have a 2bdrm reserved at AKV.

We will def spend over $500 on food for 11 days.

Thanks again I thing the TIW card is the way to go this trip.

No idea about the toaster, but get the card, you won't regret it.

Sorry to hijack your thread - we are thinking about TIW this year too. Could anyone tell me if it is accepted at any water parks. We spend at lot of time at them over 2 weeks.

The water parks are not listed. A link to the TiW website is in post #2 and the website lists the participating locations.

I believe there is a toaster in the food court at POR. I know there is a microwave. There certainly is a coffee pot you could dedicate for hot water, and just use your Keurig for beverages.

Keep in mind there are some blackout dates when considering other trips outside of your August trip.

Block-out dates for Tables in Wonderland are Mothers Day, Easter Sunday, Independence Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
