Would this get a CM fired?

Just curious - while we were at DL in mid June we were on the JC and had an incident happen. Apparently there was an issue with the ride so the boats were stopped ahead of us, however our captain was busy talking and was facing the riders and not the boat ahead of us so he did not see this. I tried to warn him several times but he kept talking and ran into the boat ahead of us. Luckily no one was hurt, it was quite a bump. Anyway he was very rattled, had to call in the bump, took his Disney id out of his wallet and said well folks I probably won't be needing this, thanks for being my last ride, and was nearly in tears. I felt so bad for him. And boy was our boat quiet after that. We sat out there for about 15 or 20 minutes I think pretty much in silence before they let the boats move on, he continued the tour but the whole mood was bummed and it was not a fun ride (and JC is usually one I really like). Anyway we talked about him for quite a while and were hoping that he wouldn't really lose his job but so I was just wondering if anyone knew if this would actually cause him to lose his job. It sounded like he was fairly new to the JC and he was really enjoying it.

Thats so sad for him. I hope it all turns out okay because he seems like a CM
who really loves his job. It was a complete accident hopefully.

I doubt they would fire him if; one, no one was hurt, and two, the boat was not damaged! He might end up loading kids on Dumbo for a while, but he'll probably still have a job!

I don't think he'd be fired for it either? Did he call it in like..you couldn't hear what the other person said?

Most likely he'll be written given a written warning and not work for a week. He wouldn't be fired but he'd have to be incident free for a few months. This is assuming everything is the same as when DH was a ride op, many, many, many years ago.

oh good, I sure hope he didn't lose his job. He was so shaken up. He did have to call it in and had to repeat several times the name of our boat, the name of the boat that we bumped and how it happened but it was so crackily that I couldn't hear what the other person was saying. And no one was hurt that I am aware of on either boat.

I'm not contributing anything here, but I, too, hope he didn't lose his job. Sounds like he loves being a CM, and it's good for a worker to love their place of employment...especially if it's Disneyland.

On my first week on a grounds crew back in my college days, I crashed the truck we used. One of the first things the head honcho over the department told me was not to worry because I wouldn't lose my job over this. I hope that Disney will take this CM's entire record into account and his love for his job and act accordingly. Hopefully for the CM this is nothing more than just a bad memory and not something that haunts him.

While I certainly hope this man is still employed because it really does seem like he enjoyed his job, otherwise he wouldn't have been as heartbroken thinking this was the end for him... I think it was highly inappropriate that he took out his ID badge and didn't contain his composure because clearly, while the ride was ruined and y'all were stuck there for 20 minutes, he could have tried to lighten the mood with a joke or something. They're called CAST members because they're constantly "on stage" and need to stay "in character" regardless of what happens.

I think it wasn't the best way (well duh) to handle it.

that's kind of what i was thinking...Maybe that was his attempt at a joke?

No, he definitely wasn't joking, you could see the tears in his eyes. It might have been better had he been able to call it in and then still "stay in character" and maybe crack a joke or two to lighten the mood until we got off the boat. You could tell the captain of the boat we had bumped was still talking and the mood over in that boat was much better. We all just sat there dumb founded and staring at each other. We were with friends that had never been to DL before and had never been on the JC so when we were getting close to the other boat they thought it was just part of the ride but soon figured out it wasn't. When he tried to resume the trip the ride was very flat, he said the jokes but by that time nothing was funny and he had only sadness in his voice. I really did feel bad for him and kind of bad for our group too since it did ruin the ride for them, they just didn't get it and didn't want to go back to give it another try.

I think I'd have made a point of dropping by City Hall and (without mentioning the accident) talking about what a great CM he is and what an asset he is to the park.

Knowing the records of several CMs at the park, I HIGHLY doubt this would get him fired. Probably just a reprimand from the ride's lead. Then again JC does have an impressive track record for fired CMs, but those were mostly due to pranks/deviating from the spiel or telling politically incorrect jokes. For something as simple as not paying attention and bumping the boats, termination would not be in order, even at a place high maitenance like DL.

Well, that's probably because the folks in charge of JC have a bad sense of humor.

Maybe he was already on some kind of probation and this may have been a second or third incident . . .

yeah, if the CM has a good record, they probably just say dont do that again please. I myself have done a few bad things on stage before but no one havent asked for me to get fired.
