Would this bother you?

I think the boss is wrong

In my former small biz we had assorted people who did different work hours 8-5 was only a core group-some worked 8-2 another 8-3 another 10-5 (for the last couple years I only worked 2-3 days a week)
BUT since we were almost always ALL women( and a few divas in the mix) my male boss KNEW he couldn't "piss off" any of us or there would have been hell to pay-LOL!
If a treat came to office-it was shared by EVERYONE

When it was a Birthday we waited until EVERyONE was "in the building" to blow out the canles and eat cake (2 were drivers)

Well since I'm doing exactly what my coworker did when she had my part time job, nope I don't think that at all.
So how do you know the terms exactly of this lunch? You know for absolute sure there are no other things behind it? You know for absolute, absolute sure that he is just buying this lunch out of the goodness of his heart to play favorites?

You know for absolute sure she is not paying him back?
You know for absolute sure that she is not doing something above and beyond like maybe taking work home once a month to get finished? Or perhaps she was working on a special project that is slightly beyond her scope of duties? You know for absolute sure everything this admin does every minute of the day, even when you are not there, that may have solicited a reward of lunch every so often?

Are there other people in the office that he also does not buy lunch for? If there are other people that also do not get lunch, I would assume she is being rewarded for some extra work not that I was being slighted.

Perhaps the very fact that you say you have lots of extra time to be on the DIS during work hours is your reward. You get extra break time.

Ha that's funny. I was thinking the same thing. OP gets to work 5 hours, gets to eat lunch at her desk despite not having a "lunch break," and gets to surf Dis and get paid? And now OP wants lunches to be delivered to her desk as well? I'll take one of those jobs, sign me up.

All possibilities, but I'm still going with the intuition that the boss and the other employee are friends beyond just their working relationship and therefore (be it right or wrong) the dynamic between them is different. OP's been asked that question a couple of times but I don't think she's answered.

Even with the best of intentions it's hard to keep professional/personal lines from blurring occasionally when people are involved with one another outside the work setting. (Don't even get me started on our "big" boss who had an affair with and eventually married one of our underlings...:sad2:)

I thought I said they do have a closer relationship and work closely together on projects that I don't, and I get that. Maybe I just thought it in my head and never typed it out. Lol

Do I know for absolute sure all these things are true, no. I do however, spend 5 hours a day sitting face to face with my coworker and we do actually talk to each other. So as far as I know, she doesn't pay her back, she doesn't take work home, and she doesn't work through lunch(this I do know for a fact).

I also never said I expected a free lunch. I just asked if it would bother others if this happened. Apparently I'm not the only one who would be bothered. I'm not going to say anything, wouldn't dream of it. It is what it is.

I do have a lot of down time, and trust me....it's not always a good thing.

First, I would not be assuming that extra 'work' that they are doing together is necessarily office/business related...
How one wants to define 'closer relationship' or 'friends', can be very very loosely translated.

Second, OP, no matter what the situation is...
It just is what it is.
Yes, it might not be fair, or right, and it might be inconsiderate, or even rude.

SO WHAT...

Sometimes if you let things like this bother you, then it says a lot more about you than the other people.

So, your co-worker, since she works full-time, gets an actual lunch hour.

Does she eat her lunch at her desk or does she go elsewhere to eat?

Since you are part-time, you don't get a lunch hour, but you do get a 15 minute break. Do you eat your lunch during your 15 minute break away from your desk or do you eat your lunch at your desk?

Are you both sitting at your desks eating lunch at the same time? Does your supervisor come in w/ lunch for your coworker & your coworker eats it at her desk in front of you?

Does your supervisor think you're eating your lunch or snack or whatever during your 15 minute break? Does your supervisor assume, since you only have a 15 minute break, that you don't really have time to eat a full lunch?

Are you allowed to eat at your desk?

I think the details matter.

If your coworker is going elsewhere to eat her lunch during her regular lunch hour, it would matter less to me. She gets a lunch hour, & you, since you're part-time, don't. Additionally, since your co-worker is full-time, she is probably performing additional duties & there may be instances where she goes "above & beyond" & this is the way the supervisor is showing appreciation.

However, if the both of you regularly eat lunch at your desk & your supervisor is bringing in lunch for your co-worker & she eats the "gifted" lunch in front of you while at her desk while you are also eating your lunch at your desk, that's a little bit different.

It would be nice if your supervisor brought in a lunch occasionally for you or maybe some other kind of treat at the same time she brings in lunch for your co-worker - a cup of coffee, a cookie, a milk shake, etc. And, depending on how & where the lunches were being eaten, I might be bothered. However, if the supervisor is bringing in lunch for your co-worker, who has an actual lunch hour, & the co-worker is going else where to eat her lunch (away from her desk), I'd be less bothered.

Have you considered my suggestion and you ordering lunch for the 3 of you? Just call a take out place. Try it and see how it goes.

Part time workers how do you go with out eating if I had to start work at 830 and go to 2 with out food I would be eating my own arm off By 1230 and my job is only 3 days a week
