would this be silly?

I would go for the extra night but not at the Pop, I would stay offsite somewhere much cheaper for the one night

seconding that! OP- We will spend the night slightly more than 1/2 to WDW from New Orleans so everyone has an easy ride and arrives ready to have fun rather than stiff and tired. The other advantage of the stop is the ability to pick some fun stuff along the way if we want to...if you plan a long travel day, it means that you MUST push forward. Instead, use the drive as a travel adventure; look up a roadside restaurant that is known for the best-whatever, stop for the worlds largest wad of bubble-gum, or what ever snaps your socks.

Enjoy!

The best thing we ever did was, I loaded the car the night before, woke up at 2:00 a.m. put everyone in the car and drove while everyone else slept. We had no traffic for hours, saved a ton of time. I didn't feel like I was up all night, and no cost of extra room!:thumbsup2

am driving down with DD in early Aug-- we're 18 hours away so i'll try to drive for 10 stop then drive the rest on the next day---ugh!!!:scared1:
if she drives maybe we can go a bit longer--
when we drove in dec, we made it from Ohio to daytona--spent the nite and arrived ready for WDW-- but we were 4 drivers then--;)

Not silly at all. We have done that before. We have both split our trip and stayed in the Savannah area as well as driving straight through and stayed off property. Have a great trip!

Not at all silly. We did that last year. Halfway for us is Cleveland TN but we pushed on to Macon GA. Spent the next day hanging around in St. Augustine and then stayed in a $45 hotel the night before. I think it was the Ramada. The next morning we got up early and checked into POR at 9:00 am then hit the parks until 3:30.

This year we're driving until we hit Macon, then the next day just driving until we hit the World. I'll be tired, but I don't want to spend a night off site - the thought of WDW being so close to us but not being able to check in was maddening! :)

We live just north of Atlanta. Takes 7-8 hours to get to Disney World. We always leave the night before, drive to Valdosta (4 hours), spend the night at a decent hotel (Days Inn brand), then have about 3-1/2 hours the next day to get to Disney World. We get there shortly before noon and are rested and ready for a day at the parks.

We are staying in the asmu suites the first night of our next trip and then off to the Poly. We did it for similar reasons but we also wanted to stay there to see if it would be something we would like in the future. We did drive from Savannah one year with 2 -2yr old boys. It wasn't bad at all remember what might take the average person 4 hrs could be longer with young children. It certainly did us. It will be a few years before we drive again(we are in Nebraska).

We have done this on our last trip down and doing it on our up coming trip in 14 days. We are driving from Charlotte on Sunday staying at the Comfort Inn (53$) then checking into SSR on Monday morning getting our keys to the world and spending the full day in the park. We are two adults and no kids and this doesn't seem silly at all, in fact it is getting the most for our money.
