So today, I was looking for save the date ideas, and I saw that they could be very small...so I was thinking...would it be tacky to get like "bisness cards" made up as save the dates? I know a website and they are very cheap! I think it would be a realy great money saver, and then I was going to put the cards inside of our x-mass cards...would this be tacky or not? (I would be designing the cards myself/ they will use my image so beside the size it really wont look like bisness card.

Another thing I was thinking of running by you all...is that I am wanting to have a send off party since only 20 people are coming to the wedding...I have a lot of people coming...would it be ok to use a less formal card, sice it is less formal of a party...(I wouldn't go to party store...or anything like that...) I would most likely make it look like a ticket...(that's what dfi wants...lol) but not like those airplane ticket that i have seen...IKD I am just so lost in this whole invitation, etiquette formal thing...ugg

I don't think that would be tacky at all to have a small, business-card sized Save the Date. I was actually thinking about doing a similar thing with a website that makes magnetic business cards for really cheap, but I decided against it since some family members have horrible eyesight and wouldn't be able to read any of it! ;)

As for the idea of having a tacky invitation, it reminds me of this one wedding invitation that I got where the person had spelled my name wrong! It's not that I would make a big deal about that sort of thing, but it is funny how even though someone can spend a lot of money and time trying to make a formal invitation, they forget the important stuff! I think that as long as you come off polite and welcoming in the invitation then it would work out :yay:

I dont think that it is tacky, I think it sounds like a great idea! A lot of people use different ideas for save the dates. I know that there are a lot of people (myself included) who have saved money by ordering their invites and STDs at Vistaprint.com! I used a more informal invitation for my home reception (they were just postcards).

Also I think i have seen some ticket invitations on Etsy but they were a little expensive

Just remember that if ordering from somewhere like Vistaprint, sometimes they add their logo to the back of it. I don't know if I'd care or notice if I received an invite with a company logo on it, but I deffinately wouldn't want to send them with the logo on it... If that makes sense..

But overall, I don't think it's a bad idea.

remember postage! Something business card sized may require you to add extra postage because it has to be hand sorted. You might check with your post office first to see because it may not save you any money in the long run.

Also, you can buy printable business cards that usually have free templates which may even be cheaper then having a bunch made by a company.

I ended up making business card sized magnets and used those little glue circles to adhere them to a card and put them in an envelope that didn't cost me any extra postage.

I would have never realized that! Good tip

I agree with Soulmates, especially in these days & the economy the way it is. We received a formal wedding invitation during the summer with the Cinderella theme and now that the wedding is over, you can imagine where the invitation is. We are only having 25 people and I just ordered our Save the Date Mickey and Minnie Mouse flat magnets, so it is easier to mail. This was just $27.95 including shipping. :cool1:
