Would Mom have fun on a Disney cruise?

Hi everyone. We are booked on the May 28 '06 4 day cruise. It will be DH, me, DD and DS. This morning I invited my mom to go also. Of course, she'd have her own stateroom but my question is would a 70 year old (my dad passed away, so it's just her) have fun on a Disney cruise? Would she feel out of place? And if she went ahead and booked could we request to dine together and request a room near ours? Thanks everyone.

Well if you mom loves Disney and would like to be waited on for 4 days then I would say yes!


When she books make sure that you give the reservation agent (or your travel agent) your reservation number so they can be linked. That will have you eating together. Then you can also ask if her room can be near yours. They do this all the time so it shouldn't be a problem.

I don't think she would feel out of place at all. DCL is for all ages!

Just a suggestion - and I really don't know if there's any savings or not but ...

If she books you might want to look into moving one of the kids off of your ressie and onto hers. There is a surcharge for single occupancy but one of the kido's would then be charged as an adult. You would need to compare the price both ways to see what works out best for you all.

She'll love it if she's anything like my mom! My mom went with me a couple of years ago and left my dad here...he didn't think he'd like it. What he really didn't like is getting left! He went with us the next year and now he has rebooked for next August. Your mom will have a ball!

I'll be 70 this year and in March went on my second Disney cruise. My husband is 73. We had a marvelous time with my daughter, sister, and granddaughter. There is plenty "to do" on the ship and she will be as busy as she wishes. Some of our favorite activities were to take my granddaughter to the towel animals demonstration and then making a few, playing bingo, walking through Nassau on our own, and just relaxing on deck 4 chairs, and so much more. The shows are great, also. Have fun!

My father in law has been twice with us, and he is 64...HE really had a great time of it...He spent lots and lots of time at the Adult pool, and lots of time with the family...I think it really is a great happy medium, as there are always quiet places to be, if one desires...We respected this, and gave it to him...We always ate our meals together, and even Palo (this he LOVED)...It really is a nice experience to have together, as they see the Joy in their grandchilren's eyes....

I think you'll find it significantly cheaper if you book your oldest child into the cabin with grandma. DCL doesn't care where people actually sleep. However, the single occupancy rate is 175% of the "per person, double occupancy" rate which means that you pay almost as much for one person in the cabin as you would for 2.

You can get connecting staterooms if you'd like, rooms next to each other, or rooms across the hall--just tell DCL what you want. Also, they will "link" your ressies so you will be at dinner together. The "across the hall" option generally works well if the adults want access to a balcony but don't want to pay for it in 2 rooms!

Disney brings the child out of you no matter what the age !! My Mom was 74 when we took her and she so enjoyed being treated like royality and spoiled for the week. She had the trip of a lifetime and we had a hard time keeping up with her!! Seniors can do as much as they like, or just sit and watch the world go by. The connecting cabins are great for families, specially when the parents wish to stroll the ship in the moonlight w/o kiddies and Nana can be in nx cabin with the grands sleeping peacefully.

As Srs., we've also taken our grands, had a magical time, and made many special memories to carry in our hearts forever. Have fun!!!

Oh, yes.

70 is still young and she can have a spa treatment, go to wine tasting classes, join the Art of Disney Classes (my favorite) and do some evening entertainment like: Bingo, Movies, Show and game shows.

She can take in a tour on the islands and hang out on the beach at Castaway Cay.

I think it was a lovely idea to ask you Mom. I hope she says yes.

At the farewell show on the June 25 Mexico cruise, there was a special "shout-out" from the cruise director (accompanied by major applause) to the grandparents who had paid for their families to be on the ship. One grandparent (apparently the Queen of England or a Trump relative--LOL!) had paid for 35 family members to go!

My point...and I do have one...is that there were dozens if not hundreds of seniors on board ship with us and all seemed to be having a terrific time. It truly is a family adventure and your mom would feel quite welcome and pampered.

If she's anything like my Mom (who's going to be 70 this year) she will have the time of her life...I took my Mom on the 14 day Panama Canal Crossing Cruise (our 2nd cruise) and she enjoyed every minute of the cruise...It could have been that we had a fantastic itinerary or that we were enjoying the cruise with 384 of our closest DisBoard friends!!!!!!

If she's outgoing...she'll have the time of her life...my Mom talked to just about everyone on the ship and made lots of friends!!!!

My mom is 82 and still goes on at least one cruise a year. She hasn't done Disney, yet, but I'm sure she would love it.
Only reason she hasn't done Disney is she often goes on last minute bargain cruises, and so far, I sure haven't seen any bargains on Disney. (I'm talking in the range of $399 for 7 days)
