Would you find it worthwhile for certain categories of requests to be available for a premium point fee?

I am not talking about if it is feasible, or realistic, but just on a whim I am wondering if I could pay more points to have the particular view or type of room, would it be worth it to me?

I know at BWV it is well worth it to pay the premium points for a preferred view. But just as many people want standard view to save on points.

Would you pay more points to be guaranteed a nonsmoking room? Would you pay more points to be guaranteed a pool view or a top floor view? How about more points to be guaranteed the small daybed that is available in some of the BWV studios?

Just curious... ::MinnieMo

I like having a variety of options. I am sometimes on a budget and sometimes not so it would depend on the kind of trip, but I do pay for preferred view if we are spending a few days at a hotel but dont (if I dont have to) for a short trip.

So...yes - I think I would use more points for certain views, non-smoking, certain floors at times. I would also enjoy short trips for less points while everyone else was having the great views too.

That said, I don't think it would be an easy thing to do and in some ways, while it would guarantee people that HAD to have non-smoking (for example) the type of room they needed, it would almost be penalizing them for that need.

I wouldn't want to pay more points to be guaranteed a non-smoking room any more than a smoker would be required to pay more for a smoking only room. Views are different, but people have different tastes is views, so how would you judge. Pool views might appeal to some and not to others. There's also the noise factor, proximity to stairs, elevators, doors, etc. Could be a can of worms.

I agree. That would be a huge can of worms that would be opened.

The answer is yes, I'd pay more points for guaranteed requests. The question is how many more points. Besides, DVC would have to decrease other points requirements to make it work due to the legal setup.

I don't think that health related options should have to cost more - handicapped, non-smoking. I would really object to anything that increased the costs of either.

As for the others - not worth it to me to pay more. And to me if DVC ever did such a thing then I would probably think about selling. Sounds like extortion to me!

Thats why I bought Boardwalk, it gives me more choices. :cool1: Oh, smoking/nonsmoking should never be a cost variable.

Actually I don't understand why Disney/DVC does not guarantee a non-smoking room. Every other hotel chain in the industry does. This is a health concern for people and can easily be done. I would not pay extra to be guaranteed it but do expect to get it. There is no reason why they can't do it and they should.

Now as for specific views I completely understand people wanting them and being willing to pay extra points for it. If view was important to me I would be willing to pay extra for it but it just doesn't matter to me. I also would be willing to use extra points for a room with a day bed if we needed it.

It's just the smoking thing that gets to me. I will be very unhappy when the day comes that they put me in a smoking room.

I would like to see DVC guarantee certain things (Smoking/Non-smoking and HA/not HA preference for example) if an owner books at his/her home resort before the 7 month window opens. I would also like to see requests made for those reservations to get priority over all cash bookings and reservations made after the 7 month window opens. IMHO, a member should get more perks at his/her home resort than at a non-home resort and shouldn't have to pay more points to get them. YMMV.

Best wishes -

I'd like to see the non-smoking request become guaranteed, but without the need for additonal points. We really don't have any other "must have" requests for which we'd be willing to give up more points. The way we see it is that a room at Disney that doesn't have all our requests is better than being at home anytime!

Very well put, Carol! I agree.

We cannot and will not sleep in a room where deadly chemicals have been puffed into the air. My son has an asthma condition that is triggered by cigarette smoke. In fact - we've had to move rooms in other hotels becuase our non-smoking room was connected to a smoking room and he was still being affected by it.
No one who doesn't smoke should have to stay in a smoking room, and Disney should certainly not ask for more points to garauntee it. In my opinion, the resorts should become non-smoking as so many other resorts have. People can still smoke outside, just not in the rooms!
As far as views - well - we never bother requesting those - we're afraid it'll affect the non-smoking issue - but I can understand asking more points for that.
As far as HC Accesible, well, they have to have the rooms available, and I guess we may get stuck with them sometimes - I know it wouldn't be our choice - but I won't pay extra to avoid it either.
