Here's the story: Someone was scheduled to fly out of Logan in Boston on a 9:00 a.m flight on Delta Express. They boarded, got ready to depart, but then the aircraft was called back due to mechanical difficulties. Everyone had to get off, including all luggage. They eventually left with only a 2 hour delay (Not sure if they left on the same plane or a different one). Supposedly, everyone was compensated for their troubles. Somewhere around $50 (or more) per person??? Does this sound like something that Delta would do for only a 2 hour delay? Sounds too good to be true, but I'm not an expert. What do you think?

From my experiences with Delta Express they usually over book flights . . .they offer very good incentives to people to take another flight . . .sooo I would say Delta Express did in fact give these people something for their troubles . . .

Was it in the form of a travel voucher? Or do they actually give you money back

I have gotten vouchers in the past from Delta for mechanical delays. I did not complain or anything they just showed up in my mail box!

Back in November our plane hit the jetway putting a gash in it. We waited 3 hours for another plane. We then sat on the second plane for 2 hours waiting for a fuse to be changed. We were told Delta would be sending us something in the mail because of the delays.

I'm still waiting.

Thanks guys for all your responses.

dcgrumpy, gee, that's too bad...did you try giving them a call...

I read once that as long as they get you on the plane they don't credit you for time spent wasted on the plane - only delays that cause time spent before you get on the plane. This is the crazy way they get around the compensation rules. I can't rmember at the moment where those rules are found. I believe they are DOT regulations. My understanding is that airlines may compensate for delays for mechanical problems that are under their control but will not compensate for delays due to weather or things beyond their control. There is a consumer's guide to air travel: http://www.dot.gov/airconsumer/flyrights.htm
I hope this site is still current.

They overbooked my flight in Feb and had to bump 12 people due to rain and a shorter than usual runway (over the weight limit). We all received $250 vouchers on the spot and were found other flights to MCO. I ended up in 1st class on Continental and only 3 hours later!!!! :smooth:

These little vouchers are not the same as compensation for bumping. If they told you that you would get one and you did not it is possible they don't have a good address. We discovered at work that our TA had gotten LOTS of things like this and just thrown them away. Our boss was mad since he felt like they should have at least used them for tickets we purchased!
