Ok, one more question then. We are planning to stay at the BCV one night this year for a wedding, I wanted to invite some family back to the pools for the day, not many, maybe 2 couples and their kids. Is this ok if I give them guest passes? How many can I get?

That all said, looking forward to the 4-night Disney Bahamas cruise this Sunday.

There are no guest passes. Usually to swim in SAB you have to show your valid room key and you get a wrist bracelet. If you can add them to your reservation, or get a reservation for them, they can swim in SAB.

I had a mom at my sons school tell me that when they go to WDW and stay at Pop, they always plan a day at one of the nicer pools. Polynesian is their favorite. But hey, Disney doesn't enforce so they really must not mind.

Last time we stayed at BCV we received a guest pass when we registered. We called our family and they came out and I gave them the parking pass and they stayed with us at the pool and restaurant. After dinner they left and went home.

Things have changed at WDW. Disney views the pools as a loss leader. It costs them quite a bit to operate and maintain them. You will notice that generally, the more expensive the resort, the nicer the pool. Disney provides the pools as a extra to entice you to stay at a particular resort. What they really want you to do is eat at their restaurants, visit the parks, and buy Disney items from their shops.

Allowing Guests to bring family and friends to the pools is not allowed. Granted when asked, some CM's may say that it's OK, but that is not Disney policy.

That was probably the parking pass not a pool pass.

This is not true, as a guest at a Walt Disney Resort you are more than welcome to have friends join you at your pool or vice versa. This is not considering pool hopping, this is spending time with your family and friends and Disney has no issue with this. I have done this many times on many stays and have always confirmed with Disney prior to doing it and receive the same answer each time....of course I can have guests visit me at my resort and enjoy the amenities at the resort.

Yes it is true, yes some will get away with it but it is pool hopping.

Think of it this way how crowded would the pool be if everyone could bring 6-8 extra people and why should it be allowed for some guest and not others? And why should the paying guests have to deal with the crowd.

My understanding of the official policy is that guests are not permitted. Many have been allowed to have guests when they ask management so it doesn't hurt to ask though you should realize you may be told no or the guests even asked to leave later if told yes due to capacity issues. It is less of an issue slower times and slower resorts. You could always add them to your room if you are within capacity but this could create DDP issues if you get the DDP. And remember, Disney is nothing if not inconsistent.

Gotta agree with the statement that your membership at DVC is a time/point share not a general country/pool club membership. If you are not using points you should not use the facility. On a lighter note when you do use points have a great time and if you have limited day guests at a pool hopping resort go for it, I would not complain.

They can visit your villa, they can dine at the resort, they can shop at the resort, they can rent a bike at the resort. But they cannot swim just because they are your "day guests".

I find that to be truly amazing. If you knew a Florida resident that wanted to come out and visit you for the day, you would think the use of the pool under your presence would be acceptable. At BCV I was given a guest parking pass (this was in October and before I bought DVC) and called some family members out to join us. They showed up and we immediately went to the pool and got bracelets for everyone. They saw my room key and we were good to go. We spent the day, ate at Cape May (reeeeeeaaaallly like that place) and they left afterward. Nobody there made us feel like we were doing anything wrong. Were we supposed to be banished from the resort?

Banished from the resort...no. As other posters have said, you are welcome to have day guests visit you in your room, use the restaurants and shops, and you could probably get a parking pass. However, pool usage, especially at Yacht Club/Beach Club is usually restricted to where each guest using the pool must show a resort ID to get a wristband. This decision is ultimately up to the lifeguard and those CMs assigned to pool duty. I have no doubt that if you and your guests had hit the pool if th pool area was near capacity, they would have been denied access to the pool area. We've been allowed to wander through the pool area at SAB and we were staying a OKW, although it was pretty obvious we were not going to be swimming...we were in street clothes and had no bags with us that could have contained swim wear.

If the pool is busy, day guests, whether at the cash resort or DVC resort, would not be granted access.

It shouldn't have worked like that, normally everyone is asked to show a room key - even little kids are usually asked.

SAB has capacity problems just with the Y&BC and BCVs guests during peak times of year. Its a huge pool - but its a huge resort and I'm not sure that Disney thought through the whole "If we build a very attractive pool, people will take more pool days than they do at our other resorts" thing into account when they figured capacity. Add in the fact that Y&BC guests pay some of the highest room rates at Disney, and you have an issue that the only logical thing to do is limit who can use the pool to pretty much the people who you'd have to let use the pool - the guests of the resort. Not the guests guests. Not members who own but are not currently staying.

Banished from the resort - no. But told you can't use the pool - that can and does happen. I wouldn't recommend you invite people and face the possible embarrassment and disappointment if the rules are enforced (and as Dean said, Disney is nothing if not inconsistent - rules that are enforced one day can be completely ignored the next).

Pretty much anyone is free to eat at a resorts restaurants, use its public areas (i.e. visit its lobby, shop in its shops), but the pool is for guests of the resort.

No I do not think it acceptable without direct and specific permission, a parking pass would not represent such permission. I'm sure the bracelets were given with the assumption that all members were guests unless they were told otherwise. Showing a room key and asking for bands for X people without specifically asking if it was OK for guests to visit would be a little shady in my book. Maybe you did make it clear and they said OK, I wasn't there, all we can go by is what you've posted.

I'm sorry, but if everyone just WENT FOR IT, there would be a lot of guests complaining, especially if they couldn't find a lounge chair at the resort they paid to stay at, but others, who hadn't paid to stay there were using the pool lounges, tables, etc. Why not just be fair to the other guests at that resort??

I can see the issue at some pools and understand why there is no pool hopping, everyone should be checked, etc. Other pools I just don't see it as that big of an issue.....We even have had a pool to ourselves a few times...... Wait a second I kind of liked that. You guys are right!....No pool hopping to the nice empty pool that I would be at, watch out I'm gonna be checkin! NO I am not going to say what pool, because then EVERYONE would want to use it. I forgot this is SSHHHHH DVC secret stuff....

The very essence of the OP is about what the rules are using your home resort. My opinion is that purposefully breaking the rules is being dishonest.

The problem with your theory of it's OK when it's not crowded is that there needs to be a consistent policy that covers broadly. There is and it's no day use, no PH to certain resorts and space available when staying on points. A crash if it's not crowded option is a recipe for chaos and disaster.
