Would a bank allow this?

It depends on the bank. every bank has different policies. Chase allows a student checking at 14. The bank I work at doesn't allow a checking account for anyone under 18. You would have to contact your bank to find out.

I was thinking about opening another checking account for just me and my 14-year-old daughter. I would put her allowance each week in it and her money for her good grades in it. Would they allow me to put her name on the account with mine and let me get her a debit card to only use with my permission?

I have this with my 6 year old.

Just call your bank and ask. If they won't allow it, go to Plan B as suggested by the other posters. :thumbsup2

We use a credit union and opened up a savings account for our son when we opened up our accounts. DH is attached to his account.

When he turned 13, we got a notice in the mail that he was able to have a student checking account.

We transferred $100 from savings to checking for him and he got a Visa debit card to use at the ATM.

He does not touch his account, at least not lately. He is going on a field trip with school this weekend, and we will take out $75 for him to use.

DH and I randomly stick money in his account. He has a decent nest egg for a 14-year old.
