Worth staying on site for WDW veteran?

I think disneylands greatest advantage vs WDW is that there’s basically no reason to stay on site.

30 quiet minutes in the morning? There’s quiet hours every day at DL because of the different way guests visit the park.

Paradise Pier and Disneyland hotel are generally not as themed as a WDW hotel, as neither was originally planned by Disney. GCH is its own thing, but worth it for cash rates vs staying very close on Harbor? Nah, not without some incredible group rate to bring the cost Way, way down.

Is it worth being in the bubble, especially with a special needs young adult, or would we be fine across the street at the Tropicana / Best Western?
IMHO there is no real "Disney Bubble" at Disneyland. Walt himself acknowledged that fact and it was one reason he started the Florida Project, so that he could build from scratch his Disney World without fear of someone buying land across the street and throwing up a motel you could find anywhere.

And totaly agree with @NVDISFamily - do not skip Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner. It is the reason that park even exists.

There isn't a bubble in the same way there is at WDW, but there is most definitely a bubble. No homeless, no hawkers, no megaphone-wielding zealots, just DTD and the Esplanade.

we go to both. One big difference is the weather in Florida can be ruthless and you pretty much have to get back to the room and recharge. You can stay in Disneyland all day and night. SO if you are not spending much time in the room why pay more

I'm not sure when you are traveling but I recent priced out some nights in August.....
The Grand Floridian was less than 600 a night.

Some of the other deluxe resorts with in the 400 to 500 range....

Not sure what you are paying but it hard to believe it is 500 more than 400 a night...

Personally, I rarely stay at moderates, and don't stay at value resorts.... If I'm in Orlando for training I used to stay at the LBV palace at about 150 a night, (on property) kinda....

The Swan or Dolphin and be 150 a night or 1200 a night... So that can be an on property option...

But for all intents and proposes I REFUSE to stay off property.....

Here is why:

I'm on vacation I don't want to drive or deal with traffic...
We all go different direction and meet back up at the hotel a few times during the day....
I go to enjoy the resort..... Disney has most other Orlando hotel covered
Just don't feel like dealing with the hassle of not being on property.....

To me its worth it to have a simple relaxed vacation...

If you are really worried about price..... you can usually rent dvc for ABOUT the cost of a moderate....
