I just wanted some opinions on whether the dining plan is worth it or not? Do you ever use all your meals and snacks or do they go to waste? I know for sure that we would be eating one meal a day in our room.

I think alot depends on the size of your family, age of your kids and the type of meals you enjoy. Personally I would not buy the dining plan because I save more money oop. I would prefer more qs type meals with a couple of ts. Hate being tied down to a reservation.

We almost always get it. We love to eat and it helps us stay on budget.

I agree with the person above-- depends on your party

I did the math using ALLEARSNET.com

we played restaurant and figured out what we wanted to eat

We do not eat desserts every meal-- that itself saved us 10pp per day.

we will allow us to have one snack each day. (which I got us both a gift card for snacks)

we wanted to eat at places that are not worth the credits on the dining plan- Sleepy hallow for a spicy chicken waffle. Earl of Sandwich and Caseys for dog nuggets--lol

we are eating at Cinderellas Castle which is 2 credits.

Dining plan is 770 for 2 people plus tips. (dining plan included tax)
since CRT is two credits we will only have 6 TS credits.

Paying out of pockets is costing us 700 (which I factored in the tax AND
I am getting 9 table service credits (because CTR is a 2 credit place) PLUS my 7 counter services and my 7 snacks.

to break even on the dining plan-- i needed to spend 15-18 for counter service. 5 bucks on a snack and 35.00 for my table service and on most nights i was not even close. (like i said more times then not I would not order that dessert after ever meal-- which is a 10 buck pp savings per day.

TS are:
CRT
T-rex (which i want an appetizer not the entree- you cant do that on a dining plan)
Mama Melrose
Teppen Edo
Be Our Guest
1900 Park Fare
Ohana
Kona

For me it's worth it, because I have a hard time spending that much money on food. So if I prepay for the dining plan, I don't feel bad about spending $160 or more on a breakfast-five of us. I calculated it out for us and we'd actually save a little money-less than $100 if we paid OOP but the mental part is where it gets me!

I think its worth it if your going to use the credits.

we are a family of 6 got free qs dining with pin and upgraded to dxdp.

with the way my 4 kids eat if I paid oop 8157.29 with dining its 7099.50

thats total package.

now without free qsd it would be closer but we would still come out ahead.

nothing ever beats free-- but if you did not have the plan would you have eaten that way during the week? (eating 8 thousand dollars worth of food??? wow. I didnt even thing we eat that much in a year--lol but there is only 2 of us and no teen boys.

Although I think we got our money;s worth as we did a lot of character dining, including CRT. I think it would be nice if you could substitute an appetizer for dessert. At times, it seemed a like dessert overload with all the meals and snacks.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding your post, but I don't think the previous poster's family ate 8000 dollars worth of food. I took it to mean they estimated 8200 with everything (room, tickets, food) with paying OOP, and less money by being on the DDP. Those #s are for the full package, not their dining expenses. Maybe I'm not understanding what you meant, however.

Yes, we are planning our first trip and we eat minimal sweets and desserts normally. I'd strongly prefer apps! We've been planning on paying OOP for meals, but with SPD possibly, we'll probably end up doing DDP. I am not certain, however. I'm not looking forward to jumping through all of the hoops, and I know my kids would prefer to share or have adult entrees rather than kid food for a week straight. Subbing apps would definitely make it more appealing to me. We simply don't need that many desserts per week, so I have trouble assigning any value to those at all.
