Are the perks for staying at a Universal on site hotel worth splitting time with a Disney on site? We want to do a few days at both but I don't know if it will be worth the hassle. It will be me and my boys, 16 and 11.

I think so. Unlimited express access for both check in and check out days as well as early admission to both parks each day really make a vacation wonderful.

I think so also and have actually done this with AKL, one time. After that 1 time we loved Universal on-sites so much we stay there the whole time! Try it - you'll love it.

i do split stays each year.

start with the motherland/disney resort.
check out.
move to the darkside/uo resort.

i like doing separate resort stays, makes it seem like two separate vacations.

We always split our stays also.
Start with WDW because you will be spoiled by the unlimited express access you get when staying on site at Universal.
Besides that perk....the fact that it is so easy to just walk or take a water taxi back to your room if you want to rest or enjoy the pools makes staying on site at Universal a must for us.

We'll be doing a split stay in May. Makes it so much easier as we don't rent a car. And with Universal, they have transport to their parks or you can easily walk to them. Love Universals front of the line access for resort guests too.

I would say Yes...it is worth it, especially if there are any crowds at all.

Totally worth staying on site for both hotels. I got an AP rate for our US hotel stay, as there were no general public discounts for when we were going. The awesome rate for HRH, plus 10% off food and merchandise paid for the AP pass VS regular pass rate.

Stay at HRH if it appeals to you, I took the short cut path from HRH pool to US and made it in 2.5min. This made it so easy to take a break mid day and then come back later for cooler weather and less crowds. HRH has a way different vibe than PBH and our teens were in love with HRH.

The unlimited express pass is a wonderful benefit for onsite guests. We went to WWOHP early and then toured the rest of the parks at our leisure with no real plan. The express lines has minimal to no wait, even when the regular line waits were 120min for the big rides.

When checking into a US hotel, be prepared for your room to not be available until 4PM. I have tried x2 for an earlier check in and neither time it was possible. We just hung out by the pool at HRH and tried to leave WDW as late as possible

Thanks everyone for the advice. I am sold! Definitely a split stay for our April visit. Looking forward to the excitement of a new park and adventure.

Thanks for this post! We are new to Universal and will go in Dec. Planning to stay at Universal first and then move to Disney. DH thought I was crazy - glad to see others do this and recommend it.
