Worst view at a WDW resort-think I had it

We had a bad outside view at WL as well. Our view was of a roof peak. Literally--I looked outside and saw a green roof and that was it. Our front door opened to the lobby, so we sat on the rocking chairs and enjoyed people watching from there.
We also had a plain veiw at CR south wing. I had paid for a standard view and got a parking lot view. I was sad because everyone else on the DIS seemed to be getting upgraded. But, we did enjoy the room and how close it was to the pool and the ease of being on the monorail "line"!
We stayed at the Poly last year and had a wonderful view-although I do not think any room here would have a bad veiw!!
The mods that we have stayed at have had beautiful views as well.
This trip that we are going on in Sept. will be our first vaslue, but now with 7 people, we need two rooms. I hope the kids will enjoy the fun and atmosphere of the POP!!

I'm not a big view person so as longs as I have a balcony I'm a pretty happy camper. I did get the dreaded "dumpster view" one time. Didn't change rooms though, I was too happy to be at WDW to let it bother me.

Last year at CSR they told us that they had upgraded us from a standard view to a water view. I was really excited until we saw it. there was a huge post/pillar right in front of the window on the ground floor with a lot of greenery surrounding that. There was absolutely no way to see anything out the window. But - love Disney - we went back and requested a different room and, though the location was not quite as good, we had a lovely view of a small pond. The CM told us when she gave it to us that if we didn't like that view to come back and she had something else we could try. My advice is to never settle for a really terrible view - always go back and ask for something else.

blessedby3, how was that lobby view regarding noise from the lobby, other than the Christmas sounds?

druidia,

Yes, we had the handicap room near Roaring Forks snacks. Took me a minute to realize why the bed was so low, but when walked into bathroom realized what room it was.

To me would have been very uncomfortable having people waiting for the elevator all the time just a few feet away, plus as we were standing in room wondering what to do and heard kids running/shouting down the hall on way to pool thought about how noisy it might be.

I could see some tree tops over the roof tops from balcony of room 4079 so I guess technically Disney might say I had a woods view for a standard rate but really wouldn't call view of a few pine cones a woods view.

It was the summer of 04 the first vacation in 8 years for hubby and I and the first for our two girls at WDW. The Poly was in our dreams for months, we were so excited. I've seen pics, read reviews, words can't express the excitement, 10 nights!!!!!!!!!In paradise.

We booked a garden view room, I would have no problem looking across the lawn at the landscape or another longhouse, it was all beautiful to me from the pics.

Then...................we got ROOM 1002! The patio doors were completely blocked off from seeing anything other than 6ft bushes. Yes, bushes at the end of the patio from one end to the other. You had to walk out to the right onto the neighbors patio to see anything. Now, I was sent nasty pms about this years ago when I reported about this room on how ungrateful I was, that just being at the Poly should have been enough to make me happy. Well, I'm over that now :lmao: Anyway...over 3K to look at bushes just didn't make me happy, I'm sorry:rotfl: We got moved the next day to Fiji and we have loved it there ever since when we stay. I now put it on my ressie, even the room number and I have been lucky enough to get the first floor cove side every time I have asked for it.

:goodvibes

Well, we've paid the $$$$ for YC concierge and had a wonderful view of the roof of the buildings - possibly the convention center?? Lovely..

Was it this room, perhaps? We just had it in January. Asked for back side of resort by wedding gazebo. Not even close. Wouldn't have been that bad but it was my sister in laws first time and I was hoping for a nice view. Oh well, we had a much nicer one a few weeks ago but I paid for water view to avoid this view again.

Lovely view of parking lots, rooftops and steam pipes. Wouldn't have been so bad if it werent' concierge and the $$$ that comes with it!

Oh gosh - no amount of snacks or beverages could make up for that view....at THAT price!!! I think I would have asked about downgrading to a lower level room if this were my only choice in concierge. I'm sorry, I know some people will disagree, but I just don't think it's right to have this be the view from a room that costs so much. :sad2:

:scared1:

Thank you for this info......I wrote the # down...just to make sure I remember it.
I would not be happy if this is what we got:eek:
So...my only request was a King bed....do you recall what this room had as far as bedding?
I also had view of wedding gazebo...but my IPO planner said there are no Kings in that area, so she took that request off.
A Garden View...should be that....I dont recall the "Rooftop View" when booking:rotfl2:
So sorry for you guys:sad2:

Oh my gosh!! We had virtually the identical room on our very first Poly visit in 1982! Only 4 nights as a winter getaway, but we were soo excited to stay at the Poly :) Our very first WDW stay the previous summer was at the Contemporary in a perfect room in the North Wing, with the monorail gliding by and a view of Space Mt and fireworks - the kids, and kids at heart, were all thrilled with the room.

This time I was the lone adult with 4 children ages 8 to 13...the Poly room location gave me the creeps. Just to top it off there were two roaches crawing up the wall - yuck!

I called to explain the situation and asked if a room change would be possible. Nothing was available until the next morning. So, they told me to leave our luggage by the door and it would be moved at 8 a.m. to our new room. We did this and went down to check-in to get our new room - completely unaware that we would have to wait until 3 pm to check in again. No DIS boards back then and in our excitement it did not dawn on me that a room would not be ready in a sold out resort by the next morning. LOL

Back in those days guests were not allowed to the room before 3, so it was a very long day - the kids could not swim midday as planned because we did not have access to our luggage (thinking it would be moved at 8 a.m.) When we did get the new room assignment, we were excited to see the new location - can you imagine the surprise when it was directly above the former room! :scared1:

Back on the phone, this time they had the manager call me back - he was extremely apologetic, said he would have been shocked and disappointed and offered to move us immediately. By this time we were happy to have a room and we could see the monorail glide by, so all was well. I was not upset when speaking with the manager because at that point it was pretty funny - We were so tired we could only laugh.

When we returned to our room that evening there was a large gift basket, loaded with fruit, cookies and other goodies, with a card from Mickey with a personal apology! We still have the card :)

Our first trip to the WL we had a great view of the bus stop. It was so noisy that I asked to move after the first night (the air brakes on the buses are so noisy I couldn't sleep). For our next 2 stays I upgraded to courtyard view and didn't have any issues.

On another note, one year we used expedia to book a condo at Copper Mountain. Even though the resort was practically empty, we were in the OLDEST building without a hot tub. My gf asked to upgrade and the guy at check-in confirmed she booked through expedia and nearly split his sides he was laughing so hard. I should also note the building we were in was soooo far from the lifts ds could hardly carry his skis to the lift. It was truly AWFUL:headache: . I will NEVER use expedia again.

Anyhow, OP you got a great rate, congrats!

Ahh, I'm sorry about your view, I hate when that happens. I just talked DH into buying a contract at VWL. I'm so worried we'll end up with that dumpster view on our first trip!

Our one and only stay at AKL began with a room that while close to the lobby and had bunkbeds as requested, had a terrible view. Our second room had additional problems.

Here's a quote from my letter to Guest Relations:
The first problem was encountered upon receiving our original “Savannah” view room (2122). I immediately noted that while it may have been a savannah view it’s balcony also looked upon a long row of ugly doors and had the noise of several large air-conditioner units. We ended up moving to Room 4548. Since we had two teenage boys we needed bunk beds and the only room of that type left ended up being a ‘smoking optional’ room which turned out not to be a problem unless our neighbors opened their balcony doors sending smoke our way! But Room 4548’s savannah view also came with a view of a divided highway and the backs of billboard signs in the distance! Having stayed at the Polynesian, Wilderness Lodge and in the Contemporary Tower I can’t believe that Disney would charge deluxe resort room prices for rooms with these in plain sight."

We also had trouble with parents sending their screaming children out on the balcony to have tantrums and kick the rails, people carrying on cell phone conversations on balconies at all hours for public consumption and overhearing private acts going on in other rooms while we tried to sit on our balcony and watch the nearly non-existent animals.

Can you tell we will never stay at AKL again? It took me 3 years to get DH to agree to return to DW!

Not to thread jack, but we also have our first trip coming up at VWL and after seeing this thread and hearing about the infamous dumpster view, I will happily (and politely) contact the manager if we should get a similar view and request to change. With it being our first trip "home", I want it to be as special as possible for DW & I

I was looking forward to staying at WL in 2009. Now after reading this thread, I'm not even sure I want to stay there anymore!!!:scared1:

Please don't let anyone sway your decision to stay at WL......I have read nothing but good things about the Polynesian on this board for the last 2 years then as soon as I made our reservation for Aug. I have read some really bad reviews and about all the problems people are having at the Poly and I was getting depressed but another poster reminded me that for every bad event/location/service you hear about their are 20 good things that have happened but people don't post the good things because that is to be expected from Disney!!!!!! And in my opinion a bad room at Disney World is better than being at home where I have to work!!!!!!!:lmao: Just stay positive!!!!!! My cup is always 1/2 Full!!

I stayed at WL in a standard room last yr, had a view of the noisy service area below.Yuky! Everytime I have stayed at mods and Pop i get a better standard view room.

When we were at AKL, we got face the new contstruction, which would not have been bad except, it was a giant dirt pit with a chain link fence and no animals anywhere. We asked for a different room. We had booked a Deluxe Savannah View.

I can't believe that Disney of all places has those dumpster view or loading dock view rooms. They are so big on "behind the scene" way of doing things it seems they wouldn't want to "ruin the magic" by allowing us to watch how they dispose of the trash! :rotfl2:
