Worst untruths inexperienced WDW people say...

Two adult women were seated behind us on the safari at Animal Kingdom. The one lady (at least in her 40's) was the most negative sounding person and quite loudly, more than once, expressed that she could not believe that people were really buying into that these were real animals. She said that "everyone" should know that they are only the animatronic ones and, in her opinion, some weren't even very good!

I sooooo wanted to turn around and say something....but what would have worked ?? That was when I wished an animal had come right up to the jeep - or there was a way to engage a cast member (the one on the safari's is actively speaking and driving of course)

It aggravates me every time I think about it!

You could have shoved her out of the vehicle while passing by the croc pit. She might have had a different opinion after that....... I can't stand cynical, know it all, loudmouth people. She encompassed all three.

I just talked to a friend who is going to WDW for the first time in many years and taking her 2 young DDs. She just told me she heard AK is a "glorified zoo". Now I know there are different opinions on the DIS about AK maybe not being everyone's favorite park, but in my opinion we have to spend 1 day there each time we go. We just love the atmosphere w/ all the foliage and I know it gets hot and crowded, but if you go early and get everything done that you want to do, we find it quite enjoyable. Anyway, JMO.

I live in San Antonio and while Schlitterbahn is fun for a day, I wouldn't spend a week there, and I wouldn't let my worst enemy stay at one of the resorts there. When I was there last, I saw a peek into one of the resort rooms and I nearly passed out. The carpet was indoor/outdoor from the 80's and it had a dirty old window unit for a/c. GROSS!!!!

It boils down to this - some people pride themselves of being unhappy - and try to downplay or dislike what others like - it is a ploy for attention, plain and simple.

I don't care WHO you are - there is something at WDW for anyone to enjoy - for a day - or for a week - or two. Regardless of what your interests are - there is something for everyone. While it may not take a week for some people - there is something at WDW that is made for every taste or vacation style!

Even if it's just laying in a hammock!

I have been to Schlitterbahn ONE time and never, ever again. We stood in line WAY longer than any time we have ever been to Disney. Who wants to stand in line for 3 hours to go down a 30 second slide? I would rather run through a sprinkler!!

I love Animal Kingdom! It's my daugter's favorite park. Last time we were on the Safari, the baby giraffe was sitting on the ground right next to the road...so cute! My girls took a bunch of photo's.

So an old friend from high school is planning a trip to WDW. She was asking on facebook about food and tickets. She believes that Disney will buy back any unused days on your ticket. She also said they were going to eat a lot at McDonald's by legoland on the $1 menu. She also was just going to buy her tickets at AAA so she could get the perks from AAA, like the AAA lounge at the Magic Kingdom. I tried to educate her....but some people just won't listen. What strange things have you heard... (Ok, as I write this, I wonder if maybe I am the one that needs educated, and will really look stupid for writing this, but I think I'm Ok.)

all you have mentioned your friend stated is obsolete there is NO McDonalds anymore in Downtown Disney next to Lego store (it is not a Lego Land Park) there never was a $1 menu there either. AAA rates are not as good as regular discounts--ever. and Disney NEVER buys back unused tickets. Now you can apply a seperate unused day ticket to say a Annual pass at face value. You can only try so much to help those who chose not to listen. Maybe she related to the gal who works with my sister who goes to WDW for 3 nite weekends and stays at the Yacht Club and eats and has two teens and husband and they go to $500.00 however she will not share this info with anyone wonder why? she comes back bragging every time OH yes and air is $100 each round trip

I hear this one all the time. We had some friends who skipped this park because the said that they had already been to the local zoo.

The other newcomer mistake I see is going during the most busy time of the year (i.e. the Christmas) and waiting in line for hours instead of using FastPasses.

Just the idea of eating off the dollar menu at McDonalds is disturbing for the entire trip.

Twice now my Mom has had to explain to friends that "staying in the park" is not actually in the magic kingdom! My aunt just wouldn't listen to her that her hotel was "on property" and not in the middle of a park!

I live in an area of the country where summer temperatures are over 100 and often over 110.

So my favorite is when people here plan on going to WDW in the summer and think that because it's hot here and they are used to it, they'll be fine in Orlando.

Yes, people, it's called HUMIDITY.

yeppers right there with ya. live in southern cali and it is the same here. not uncommon to have 110 and up for a big part of the summer. have gone in aug,july,and june and each time the humidity is crazy. it does take getting used to. early mornning rope drops naps in the afternoon and nights in thepark. hey humid wdw is better than no wdw.
i do get a kick out of the griping about it tho. what did ya expect?

When I took my fiance in September he was shocked at how spread out things were. I tried to warn him but he thought most of the resorts were right across the street from each other.

What really irks me is people who spend tons on $$$ on a trip to WDW and do NO research...then they go and have a lousy time because they were unprepared, and return home and say they hate WDW. A little homework goes a looong way...[/QUOTE]

you hit the nail on the head! our first trip was a gift and i researched anything i could. we were dlr passholders so that helped as i was already familiar with some boards.
and anone who does not think that just tow grownups can have fun there should check out nebo and smidgy's tripp reports.

We took our DSs (2 and 3 at the time) for their first WDW trip a couple years ago. We spent the entire next year "building" the rides at home out of our deck furniture. Did you know that 4 chairs in front of each other can be a monorail? Or that 2 side by side can be a doom buggy? Well, I know that because I took my 2 y/o DS to WDW. He seemed to remember just fine. We have been back several times since then, but the boys always ask when we are going again.

Did I mention that my older DS is absolutely insane about Figment?

I'm with you on that... I got a lot of that when I asked for my vacation time at work for this trip. A lot of you "yeah you are really going for you" Well of course I'm going to have a good time... it's my son's first trip!

My youngest turned two during our first trip (same as you, May 2008 ) and honestly I thought we were mostly just bringing him along on a trip for our two older DDs. Even though we had a great time and DH and I knew we would have wonderful memories of enjoying Disney through our "baby's" eyes, I really didn't think he would remember much.

He was not speaking at that time (speech delays/issues, so not even any "mama/dada"). When he started talking many months later, he chimed right in planning our second trip with detailed memories from his first.
