Worst untruths inexperienced WDW people say...

The only person I ever heard say anything really uninformed was a woman on the monorail say she was going to go and collect fastpasses for every ride then go ride them one after the other. I don't think she understood there's a window of time between when one fast pass is given and another one is available.

IMO, all the people that dislike Disney so much or have seen it all and refuse to go back equals less crowded parks for my family and all the diehards here on the DIS!!:thumbsup2

I agree! Let other people dislike WDW because they won't do any research or listen to people who know what they're talking about. Works for me! :thumbsup2

I had a friend that was going to be in Disney staying at ASM the same time as my family would be at SSR. I asked her if she wanted to meet up at one of the parks and she yes said Universal Studios:confused3. Now I knew they weren't renting a car so I had to ask how they going to get to Universal. She told me that they were taking the Disney bus there.:rotfl2: We never did meet up while there but when we returned I asked her how they got back and forth to Universaland she told me that they took cabs there and back because it was just easier......Whatever!!!!

"When will Main Street USA be right in front of the castle again?"

For some reason they must've thought the whole park rotates?

:lmao::lmao::lmao:
seriously... there are tears in my eyes!!! :rotfl2:

Funny, I've ridden in a boat in IASW with CMs there on their day off.

A friend of mine and his wife are working at Disney because they love the parks so much.

Now, I have heard that locals avoid the parks in the summertime.

:thumbsup2

Sorry I did not get back to this thread sooner. I was having lunch with a CM at MK on her day off. And this weekend several "locals" are getting to together for our bi monthly "Mom's nite out" at Epcot.

I am another who hates the "They [kids] won't remember it" line. Actually this one totally drives me bonkers. :scared1:

A friend of mine this past weekend told me she hadn't taken her son to Disney and won't till he is five because he "won't remember". It took every fiber of my being not to go into my "Disney is magical" speech and just nod knowing she wouldn't listen anyway. Thank God I have you people who truly understand the Disney addiction! :rotfl2:

We've taken all of our children just about every year, since our oldest was 2, so I have heard this a thousand times. I just smile sweetly and say Well, it's not as much about them remembering it as it is about them enjoying it while they are there... and no one can argue that young kids do not enjoy it (minus a few meltdowns, LOL!)

I know someone who took her son to Disney last year and was very disappointed because she thought it would be real snow at Blizzard Beach.

I used to be one of those people. My mom and dad wanted to go to WDW and take my daughter. I kept saying why bother....you guys took me to DL when I was 1, 2 and 6 and I barely remember the trip when I was 6. My mom countered with - you may not remember it, but I do.

Dad had a quadrulple bypass and celebrated his recovery by taking his granddaughter (and the rest of us) to WDW. It didn't take me real long to understand how right my mom was. DD is now almost 16 and has been a few more times, but she still has many memories of her first trip. DH and I have a ton of memories of her at 3 living it up as a Disney princess.

My only regret is that we didn't get back to Disney until dd was 12 and her little brother was 8. He didn't get the little kid Disney experience.

Actually the Lego store is closed for refurb. There is temporary Lego area in the toy store.

:scared1: SERIOUSLY?!?!?! I was really looking forward to the huge Lego store. Does anyone know if this is true, and if so, when is the store going to be open again?

My all time favorite is, what do you do with your son when you want to ride the rides? As if my DS3 can't go on any rides. I try to explain that there are more rides without height restrictions than with, but they just look at me weird :confused3

I'm currently planning our first family vacation to WDW and already am thinking about going back next February. I know it's gonna be a favorite vacation with at least 3 out of 4 (my DH is still a wildcard). I get a lot of:

"You don't think you'll get bored there having seen it all this time?"

WHAT??? Seen it all??? Is that even possible to do???

"That's a lot of money to spend on a vacation the kids might not remember"

Seriously? I'll remember it and cherish every memory.

My DH did think that the hotels were located within the parks themselves. He also, thanks to my MIL, thought that the "lands" in the MK were all separate entities. Apparently in her need to control everything on his one and only trip to WDW over 20 years ago my MIL visited "Frontierland" one day, "Fantasyland" another, and so on.... DH was able to see two of the lands before he got an intestinal blockage and therefore he's got a ton of misplaced animosity towards WDW.

My favorite (which I think I may have posted before)...

DH worked at Best Buy. During the busy holiday season, a guy comes in looking at video games and says that his family was getting ready to take a vacation to Disney World over Christmas. DH asked him if he had all of his reservations made. The guy says yeah, we have our room. DH (being trained so well) askes about dining...guy says, oh, it won't be very busy over Christmas, so we'll just eat wherever.

I think that is the misconception I hear the most...Christmas is a slow time of year. As a PP pointed out, maybe that used to be the case, but as we all know, certainly not any more.

I've always wondered how their trip went...

Just last week a travel agent told my friends the reason to by park hoppers is because if it is raining in one park, you can go to another :rotfl2:.
It's their first trip so I was encouraging them not to add hopping, just upgrade if needed once there.

My MIL goes to Disneyland once every few years since they live within driving distance... and is of the opinion that you can never go at a time when there's not very long lines. Whenever we visit we usually do a day or two at DL, always on a weekday, and there's hardly ever any bad lines. In a way I think its ruined the Disney experience for her. She also tends to like going during the Christmas time, which I'm sure doesn't help matters. If I lived that close, I'm sure I would time it to a different time. :rolleyes1

When we lived in Japan I heard all sorts of fun things about the Disney park there from other Americans on base. That they were a lot cheaper than the US parks (not true! The entry price was a bit lower, but they really made up for it on food and souvenir prices, ouch!) or on the other end of the spectrum that they wouldn't welcome Americans (not sure how that one got started...). Both Tokyo parks were lovely, and expensive as I expected ;) Everyone was overly polite, even finding a translator the one time I had a question we couldn't work through with my rudimentary Japanese and hand signals.

Well, it's true that he Lego Discovery Center is being remodeled but not true that there's only a small area of Legos in the toy store. They've set up a HUGE temporary structure full of Lego fun. It's not quite as cool as the Discovery Center but better than nothing. The Discovery Center will reopen mid-April with an additional 3500 sq feet and new life size Lego creations. You can see pics and read about it here.

Some people just won't listen - but it's still the right thing to do to provide them with the correct info.

On our most recent trip I heard a lady spreading all kinds of crap information to another guest in line for It's a Small World.

She said that you had to pay extra for FastPass access of you weren't a resort guest.
She also said that unused days were refundable -
She also said that the dining plan didn't cost anything extra for resort guests - anytime of year.
She was staying on property - and the party she was talking to was staying off property.

As far as relying on a AAA agent to provide you with correct Disney information is like relying on a 1967 Encyclopedia to provide you with current information about the Internet or Computer Science.

AAA agents do not work for commission - the only time they get paid is when they meet their sales goal and then they get a sales goal. AAA is all about volume - not service. I recently talked to a family whose vacation was all but good - due to their AAA agent's ignorance of current Disney policies and other info.

Also the untruth that Animal Kingdom being a 1/2 day park DRIVES ME CRAZY!!!! LOOK AROUND! There is a ton of stuff to see and do at Animal Kingdom.

When it first opened, we very much felt this way.

Times have changed and the park isn't open long enough IMHO.

That's true for a lot of people, though. Yes, there's a ton of stuff to see and do. But I'm not interested in all of it. It definitely takes less than a day to do everything I want to do at AK.
