Worst room you've ever gotten?

DVC reclassified several savanna view villas at AKV Jambo house to standard views back in 2012 because of complaints from folks getting villas overlooking the people pens or other lesser savanna views, so feedback is important. If they have classified villas as Theme Park view which have no view of the MK at PIT, they’ll need to correct that & to adjust the point charts accordingly to absorb the point loss from the downgraded Theme park view villas. I think a couple of the VGF theme park view resort studios are behind pine trees & can’t see the MK due to foliage - not sure if that’s been resolved.

Nothing about that says TPV. And not just that, the Theme Park View rooms at Poly Tower have some of the absolute highest premiums percentage-wise for views in all of DVC.

I'll be in 1 in a few weeks and am ready to raise hell. I would have happily saved the points so I am expecting a legit Theme Park View.

Oh, and look at what Disney is charging for one of these rooms this month. Points or cash, that view is unacceptable.

First, sorry you're yet another victim to these unfortunate TPV rooms, @intamin. These first floor rooms (and a bunch of other TPV rooms) really need to be reclassified. Good on you for speaking up and escalating to a supervisor.

I'm on record saying I'm wary of a monky paw effect here, but it doesn't make these room assignments okay.

You mentioned something that really caught my eye about the make-good:
They offered me the standard studio rate in the tower which was a difference of 9 points or 300 dollars.

I think this is a new make-good structure, and it's kinda fascinating to me!

To start, the last few years I've seen more and more reports of make-good not including a return of points. Speculating based on personal experience, I think this was in part due to returning points occasionally being a hollow gesture if there was no reasonable way for the member to use the points in their future plans. On top of that, I think there were some logistical issues with the resort-side teams not being able to action it themselves, only requesting it from the MS-side.

Instead of returning points for make-good, the last few years they were offering cash (or gift cards/room credits) and future stay vouchers.

But not only are they offering to return points in your case, but it's also a partial return and they're giving a cash alternative. I think the partial return of points hasn't been part of SOP for a long time (at least as long as I've been a member, I think). (as an aside, the fact they went all the way down to Standard View points chart deserves some kudos, rather than middling it as 'Preferred' or whatever)

And now the Inside Baseball part that gets to the core of my fascination here: coming out with a new structure of a make-good (really 2 new parts: offering points vs. cash, and partial points) says to me they had a discussion or meeting to come up with and implement this. Knowing how large corporations slowly change course, probably multiple meetings. And that means they had a reason to discuss/meet in the first place: I suspect because of the volume of with-merit complaints about these room views.

That is galling. I hope that you keep pushing this issue because these need to be reclassified. Who in their right mind would ever think that first floor of anything would equal any type of view other than fencing and shrubbery?

I plan to. Either tomorrow or Monday I'll be on the phone with member services strongly encouraging them to change the designation of this "TPV" room to standard or at very best preferred.

I’m surprised not to have seen more social media outcry about the classification of these rooms. It’s absolutely wrong on DVC’s part and they need to get someone on the ground to have a proper look at which rooms have ‘a view of Magic Kingdom and seven seas lagoon’ as stated in their own description.

Sorry you got lumped with this one!

since i have stayed in AKL standard view and gotten a decent view of the Savannah I really thought if you pay the extra for Savannah or theme park view you get a premium experience. Did you happen to ask if that room is actually a theme park view room or did they put you in a different category? I get why you are disappointed.

I don't ever book any type of upgraded view since it's not important to me, so I don't complain about location or view. But, I have noticed that the condition of the rooms are sometimes a little beat up and not everything is working properly like the glass shower door at BCV 1BR scraping and really hard to open and close or CCV big heavy wooden bathroom door at CCV studios very difficult to open and close. Maintenance was called but no correction was made. I feel that Disney should not always book every single room and allow time to perform proper maintenance. I'm wondering if Disney categorizes these questionable rooms to allow them to declare more points when they open the resort and just wait and see how people react to the designation. It should be no mystery if the room how the room is rated to them, I'm confident they have decision maker in every one of these rooms during the construction phase.

Hey everyone, I just checked into the Island Tower at Disney's Polynesian Resort. I booked a theme park view studio for 1 night for 39 points per night back in December. Some time last week, I requested to be placed on floor 7 or higher. I'm not sure who I hurt or what I did to deserve this but I ended up with a first floor accessible room. No view of Magic Kingdom whatsoever. Attached is the room view we got. Plenty of people walking by I promise. Also attached is the accessible shower we did not request. Pretty disappointed since this was just a one night staycation. I know the 7th floor or higher was never guaranteed, but being given a room that clearly does not have a view of Magic Kingdom and is also an accessible room when paying 39 points a night for a studio is unacceptable. They did finally agree to give me 300 dollars as compensation but I was kind of hoping to use this trip to help the wife see why we should own at Poly and I'll admit it's left a sour taste. Anyways, it just made me wonder what were some of your least favorite rooms you were assigned?
3 of our last 4 trips we have asked for higher floors and have been put on the first floor, the last 2 have added anything but the first floor to the request-it is almost like they are trying to stop request. We have brought this up with management and they always say we can switch rooms after 2 nights (3-4 night stays), that there are no other rooms open, even with notice of room assignment at 1pm. Last trip they tried to say it was because of our room category (Grand Flo standard/resort studio) was that floor, you would think they wouldn't make up stories with DVC members as most probably know what a standard or preferred location is.

As I recall, a few years ago, they reclassified some BLT Theme Park View rooms to Standard View. My friend had one of these a year ago. It was a low floor and right above where deliveries are made. You could hear the trucks throughout the day, but the view of the fireworks was pretty good!

My worst view was nowhere near as bad as that Poly Tower so-called TPV room. Instead, it was a Club level room at Jambo House. All five Studios have obstructed views, with those on the pool side also having a pretty good view of the roof!

I'm not sure if the Studios on the Savanna side are any better.

I'm the same. At least a dozen stays and no upgraded view. No disappointment.

I hear ya on those BCV 1BR shower doors. :sad2:

The BLT change actually within the first few years? It was not to far after opening and complaints poured in. .

So, for this, hopefully it won’t take as long!

Yeah, I’m in the prime Disney years of my children’s lives, and it would be quite disheartening to burn my limited points on a view like that. Would love for this to be corrected ASAP.

Spoke to member services again for them to formally file a complaint and ask for a reclassification of the room in question which now that I'm no longer in the room is 8108. She said she stated the room number multiple times and bolded it so hopefully this gets revised sooner rather than later.

That is terrible. What theme park am I even looking at? If I didn't actually know Disney World I wouldn't be able to tell if the fireworks were coming from Magic Kingdom or from Epcot. I still like the Polynesian but at this point I'm considering only booking resort or preferred view if I own here so I know to be disappointed with my room's view.
Wow. I thought my dumpster view at BRV was bad, that is ridiculous.

Do we need to stay there in order to file a complaint or how can someone help escalate if we haven’t stayed?

😳 I cant believe this, I haven’t looked at cash prices in over a decade as we always rented points before we owned. I cant believe they want this for essentially a hotel room. Im not sure what’s worse, that the prices are this high or that there seems to be enough people willing to pay this that they charge it.

Maybe you could say you saw a photo taken from room 8108 which is classified as TP View, but there’s no theme park visible?

Lol so it's even worse than I thought. I thought this little blue spire was the tip of the castle but instead it's Space Mountain. The castle is completely hidden behind Grand Flo from this view. I hope they never give anybody this room and dare call it a theme park view room ever again.

If I got that as a standard view like at BLT, I'd be thrilled. TPV, they're crazy.
