Worst room you've ever gotten?

We have mostly lucked out with our DVC room assignments, but a few unfavorable ones come to mind:

  1. BCV - Several years back - a studio next to the elevator (room # 566, I think). Extremely annoying, but we had only booked it for one night and the racket calmed down after a while. :headache:
  2. OKW - One of our home resorts and we’ve therefore stayed there much more than anywhere else. We were in a two-bedroom unit that was very dark. As the resort grounds matured many units weren’t as sunny as they had been in the early days. But this unit was cave-like and kind of depressing.
  3. BRV - We were in a lovely two-bedroom unit after the recent renovation. Due to a hurricane threat, we opted to change our travel plans and stay one extra night in a studio The room was the last one down a long hallway. Not the end of the world by any means, but annoying just the same. We survived. ;)

I once got the last studio at this far end of the hallway at BWV. Not only it's the farthest away from the elevator, it's also on the opposite side from DHS, so there isn't even the consolation prize of being able to cut that walk. And it was on the 5th floor, so skipping the elevator meant a lot of stairs.

Oof I had the same but the 1st floor. Kind of fun to listen to Jelly Rolls at night on our patio. 5th floor is rough for stairs, etc, but at least your view was better!

All this talk about elevator noise and BCV reminds me of a studio I had once on the top floor there. It was on the left as you get off the elevator-the only room on the left, and I loved that it had its own private area outside the studio. Yet at night, I could hear the motor of the elevator, so loud that it kept me awake (and nothing usually keeps me awake) but the elevator itself was across the hall, so I could never figure out where the noise was coming from. In the words of Charles Dickens, "It was the best of [times/studios], it was the worst of [times/studios]". But then a few years later, I got a HA studio on a different floor, right next to the elevator, and I never heard a thing. :scratchin

BCV: Upon arrival we received a ground floor studio right outside the quiet pool gate entrance-many people walking by and no privacy unless the curtains were closed. The patio was also extremely tiny. We had requested a room with a balcony because we had expected spending time on our non existant balcony. We were moved to the 5th floor room with a huge and private balcony. While the elevators were far across the hall, we could hear the elevator noise all day and night. It was almost as if whenever the elevator was used on any floor we could hear it. My husband thinks the hoists/motors of the elevator were in the attic space above the room. I wonder how many rooms on the 5th floor are affected or if it was just that one room. But we had an awesome balcony!

PIT: We did have a wonderful 1BR TPV on the 5th floor. I was really concerned because the point cost of ths room was astronomical-so much so that I think I let out a gasp when I called MS to book the 1st day booking was available. While the view was awesome from the balcony, we could only see the theme park when out on our balcony. From inside the room I think you could see the theme park from the far conrner of the MB. This was still a very nice view. I was disappointed at first, especially considering the point chart, but I loved that balcony view and we are balcony people. With the point cost of this room however, you are gambling on the actual view you will get. I am glad we got lucky this time.

It's crazy how bad it was on the 5th floor there. But same here, the balcony view was amazing for a resort building that's known to not have views. Wasn't worth the trade off for me though on not being able to sleep.

Definitely agree with the speculation that the motor system was overhead. Constant motor whirring all night. Rough few days before we got moved.

My "worst" room was a couple months ago. AKL Jambo Grand Villa. It was the accessible one overlooking the flamingo pool.

Didn't need any of the accessible features. From the balconies we did get some noise from the pool area as well as the flamingos. Others have mentioned the smell from the flamingo area, but we didn't notice any.

We were at the end of the Uzima Savanna but almost always had animals to view.

I had put in a request for any GV on Kudu Trail in an effort to avoid this room. All in all, it wasn't bad. Not worth complaining about. Still a great room and trip, even at 600 points for the week.

Wow. I'm glad you posted this thread, because it truly never would have occurred to me that a TPV might be on the first floor!

We've had a few "bad" experiences:

1. Aulani - a few years back, booked standard view and we were right over the top of another roof. Simply no view, but again, it was "Standard View" so didn't have high expectations.

2. BLT - got an accessible room. We don't have disabilities and all of the things that make the room accessible for those that do, made it extra hard for those that don't. The kitchen cabinets were so low, you couldn't place anything of height on the counters. We asked about switching, but were told it wasn't possible as we had already occupied the room and instead we got a $100 credit.

3. Poly - very next stay, studio.....and guess what, accessible. I swear I thought they were targeting us. This time we were wise to check the room prior to occupying it and headed straight for the front desk once we realized it was accessible. They were able to change us to another room since we didn't "disturb" anything. Lesson learned here, check the room and don't touch anything.

Already shared our PIT TPV experience but forgot some others.

Aulani 1BR Ocean View. Our 5th floor room view was nearly obstructed by trees but they were 100% full. We did enjoy the luau most nights.

Vero Inn Ocean View - It wasn’t the view, but as others mentioned, it was the elevator noise. We could hear it every time it went up and down.

Pago Pago (but we actually like that view if you aren’t on the 1st floor).

its theme park views are actually theme park views.
Yes, I'm so glad our first contract was BLT because not only are its TPVs really TPVs, many lake views and standard/resort views are as well.
I don't ever book any type of upgraded view since it's not important to me, so I don't complain about location or view.
Same! Then when I luck out and get an amazing view, I am pleasantly surprised, and when I get a crummy view, I figure it was my turn... (see pics below)
We got allocated the handicap accessible room at VGF. It was a nightmare kitchen worktops too low wardrobe not tall enough to hang my dresses handicap ironing board.
We got the HA 1br on the 3rd floor last time. It was my 9yo's birthday and we took an evening flight instead of an early AM flight, then traffic was bad and it took a loooong time from the airport. The whole time my kid was so excited to take a deep bath because we don't have a bathtub at home (NYC apartment) and ... no bathtub. (no space to hang dresses was secondary, but it was a pain; also the counter layouts were so confusing and didn't have enough outlets to charge our MBs.) This was the one time I asked to move and there was simply no room to move us.
We stay at BCV 2-3 times each year. I'd say we've run into a room with 'noise' issues (elevator mostly) about 1 in 10 trips. I expect at all the resorts there are those rooms that have elevator noise, or the HVAC is noisy, or the ice machine is across the hall.... But most of our experiences, especially BCV, have been pretty good. We've been more annoyed with the occasional family groups (adults and kids) yelling to each other going down the hall returning at midnight or leaving at 6AM to start their day - and it doesn't matter which resort it is. You can't overcome that loud rudeness.
In the fortunately/unfortunately game, since we are so used to street noise, most outside noise doesn't bother us. And since my kids have always lived in an apartment building, they know to be quiet. But the bathtub....

We've lately stayed at resorts right before they were refurbed - VGC over Xmas, BLT last summer, BWV the summer before that. So I've got some room run-down experiences (no water for a day at BLT, then black gunk; banged up rooms, etc)

But here's some view disparities at VGF - all standard rooms:

First, the dreaded 1221 which is a 2nd floor studio and also part of a lockoff. I guess now that they've been renamed "resort view," they are technically correct. It certainly wasn't "standard" for VGF because it was the other standard views are really quite good:

MOST of out VGF standard/resort views are like this. This time we happened into a new, 6th floor? room while the villa building was being refurbed. Sigh...

Our first stay as DVC members was at Animal Kingdom lodge. I booked 1 night in a Savannah view studio and the 2nd night in a standard view studio. Then we were hit by Pixie dust and upgraded to a 1 bedroom Savannah view for our 2nd night. Amazing..... until we saw the view. If I had paid for that 1 bedroom I would have been upset. Could I see the Savannah, part of it I guess, though I don't think we saw any animals from there. We had an amazing view of an empty fenced in area that I later learned is where people get evacuated to in the event of a fire in the hotel.

The 1 bedroom was obviously a nice upgrade, but I kept wondering how Disney could sell that room as a Savannah view. I guess that's why they gave it to us for our Welcome Home stay.

Hey everyone, I just checked into the Island Tower at Disney's Polynesian Resort. I booked a theme park view studio for 1 night for 39 points per night back in December. Some time last week, I requested to be placed on floor 7 or higher. I'm not sure who I hurt or what I did to deserve this but I ended up with a first floor accessible room. No view of Magic Kingdom whatsoever. Attached is the room view we got. Plenty of people walking by I promise. Also attached is the accessible shower we did not request. Pretty disappointed since this was just a one night staycation. I know the 7th floor or higher was never guaranteed, but being given a room that clearly does not have a view of Magic Kingdom and is also an accessible room when paying 39 points a night for a studio is unacceptable. They did finally agree to give me 300 dollars as compensation but I was kind of hoping to use this trip to help the wife see why we should own at Poly and I'll admit it's left a sour taste. Anyways, it just made me wonder what were some of your least favorite rooms you were assigned? View attachment 943388

I’ll chime in again to give our recent experience.

We booked a 1BR TPV. We have one of the rooms that directly face VGF on the end of the tower. Basically, from in the room looking out the glass doors, you are looking at VGF.

Out on the balcony, you can see some of the park and water if you look to the right. Looking left, you are seeing monorail and parking lot.

IMO, these should not be the same point cost as the room directly facing the lake and MK. They should have been given a preferred view designation.

The room itself was amazing. The layout is very well done. Having two full baths is a perk that can’t be overstated!

My cons about the tower itself only relate to having to walk to the GCH for the mercantile, gift shop, and most of the restaurants.

Wow! You are nicer than I am - i would want my points back. 300.00 is not compensation for that. They will probably need to redo their std. View rooms and reallocate accordingly.
