WORST Rock Lead Singer Ever?

letterdavidman said:
Yeah, Diamond Dave was a helluva frontman! Singing ability? Marginal. "Cha-RAZ-muh"? In spades! :thumbsup2

And a glazed donut...to go!

I agree, in the day Diamond Dave was an amazing front man. But that "style" went out in the late 80's, and Dave found it difficult if not impossible to change with the times. He still has his fans, but for the most part he's a has-been in contemporary music.

I used to love seeing George Thorogood and the Destroyers, always knew it was going to be a great show. Lou Reed was another one that I can say I never saw a bad show. That was back in the old days though.

Agreed that his style doesn't cut it these days...not a whole lot of spandex going on in modern rock...but the question was worst rock lead singer ever, and there's no way in hell David Lee Roth is the worst all time. He's easily one of the greatest!!! And that goes for Jagger, Springsteen, and Robert Plant as well. I'm floored by some of the opinions on worst leads...but I guess to each his, or her, own.

It's just that, to me, he seems like the poster boy for late nineties/early aughts rock frontmen: e.g., the bland-er, the better.
I'm totally with you there!! :thumbsup2

The FREAK from Twisted Sister!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:scared:

Janis Joplin - never like her very much!!:confused3
Bob Dylan - of course!!:crazy2:

I've gotta take some time and just mention: While I'm not exactly surprised, per se, that so many people here have mentioned Bob Dylan, I think I've just got to come to the guy's defense a bit. Yes, the man does have a tres nasally singing style, and it's only become more so with age. But the man has literally written a handful of the most defining rock and roll songs ever. Also, I have seen him mesmerize with his performances. Here's an example:

Now, granted, the pancake makeup was a tad extreme, but the performance was stark, seething, haunting, lyrical.

No question, Dylan is the man! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

I have to agree. They may not be your cup of tea, but to say they're the worst leads-- I don't get it.

Even though I will defend him to my grave LOL-- I'm not suprised some would put my man, Rob Thomas (I was sort of expecting it), but Dylan or Mick Jagger or Springsteen-- I'm a little shocked at those choices.

I actually found this to be a really hard question.

Hi,

Hard to say who I think is the worst rock singer ever. But there are a couple whose singing rubs me the wrong way:

Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam
John Waite

Jim

But really, aren't they all the same person? And didn't they have (slightly) more charisma when they went by the name Eddie Vedder?
::yes:: Although I give Eddie a little more credit than that :teeth:

I thought of John Waite because IMO he is such a creep but I did like his singing voice and style on stage, so I guess I can't name him. Bummer! Don't know who I would name as the worst...I'll have to have a think!

The guy from AC/DC. His voice sounds just like Donald Duck's would if the big D spent 20 years smoking 10 packs & downing a bottle of Jack Daniels a day.

Anyone see the "I Love the '80s" segment on Quiet Riot? One of the commentators pointed out that the lead singer really looks more like he would be the lead singer of a Quiet Riot cover band :lmao: So true!

No arguments from me. Bob Dylan is an amazing songwriter, probably the best ever. His voice is not for everyone, but I'm a fan!

I find with Rock bands - no one in particular stands out. I may not like them because it may not be my "taste", but most do have talent.

Off genre - Britney Spears & Jessica Simpson definitely come to mind.....

Does Prince count? If so, then Prince. :smokin: I never quite know what to think of his music ... pop, rock, 80's, something else. :confused3

Tied for first place with Axel Rose and the lead singer from AC/DC. :bitelip:

Owwww, my ears!

I just paid money to see John Waite in August, and I guess I was expecting The Babys but once there and only seeing 2 guitars on stage I was in for a huge disappointment, not only were there only about 100 or less people there, the man was so wasted on I don't know what he spent half his time conversing with the audience, the other guy was a great guitar player but was having a hard time trying to keep John on track, he played half songs and remembered less words than me! So I will have to say up til now John Waite was the worst!
