Worst Cook in America -- I was NOMINATED!

Is good luck in order or should I wish you aren't the Worst cook in America?

I fail at making jello. I can't do to save my life. Good thing it is not anyone favorite food in my house.;)
You should look into nominating yourself for the next go-round!

Don't you have to work?:confused3

I would not be proud if my 17 year old son nominated me for being a horrible cook.
Not everybody works.
Not everybody who works, works summers.
Some people who work are able to adjust their schedules or use personal time off, leave time, vacation, etc., for various reasons including the rare (but FUN) possibility of appearing on a reality show.

The OP has a realistic view of her cooking abilities and isn't upset in the least with her son's opinion. He surprised her only with the nomination; he has made no secret throughout his life of his opinion of her cooking, and she has a sense of humor. She's not offended.

Heck, I can't cook. The two greatest inventions of the twentieth century were Excel and the microwave oven. If you can't nuke it or buy it ready-to-eat, I haven't tried it!

Yes, my company allows me to work from my laptop and our main office is in NY, not to mention just about every agency I work with and our distribution people.

I work in TV so it won't be much of a stretch!

I don't mind at all that he nominated me, in fact I wanted someone to! I'm NOT a good cook! It's just not my forte. I spent the entire show wishing I was there... I hope I just make the finals I want to go HOME!! :woohoo:

I watched some of the show last year and it was a HOOT! I did miss the final, though :(.

I googled "spaghetti pie" :scared1:. I think that something unusual and BAD will be perfect! Good luck :thumbsup2.

:lmao: And BOY is this unusual and BAD!! ;)

I love that show, Robin!! I am a horribe cook and felt *a little* better after seeing some of the dishes the contestants came up with. DH does all our cooking and I'm very very lucky that he's so good at it.

I hope you do well in your audition (or should I hope you DON'T do well...not sure). In any case, I hope you get on the show. It would be great to get to go home to NYC and great to learn how to make some amazing food!!

And take that young man of yours out for a fancy shmancy meal, would ya??? Your stories of him always relate what a terrific young man he is. If his nomination leads to a spot on the show, I'd say he deserves a special "Michael's Choice" meal while in NYC! ;)

LOL, which will probably be a Nathan's hot dog at Coney Island!! :thumbsup2 Thanks so much!

OP: I will follow your career with considerable interest.

I admit, we enjoyed that first season, even though I was very suspicious of some of the contestants being 'plants'. I mean, it would be a pretty easy thing to fake, making poor dishes. Nevertheless, good show.

This topic reminds me of a co-worker whom hired a young teenage girl to babysit. Upon leaving the house co-worker told babysitter to simply boil some hot dogs for the children's supper.

Upon arriving home co-worker discovered that children had not been fed. Reason? Babysitter had never boiled hot dogs before (or done any type of cooking). She did manage to fill a pot with water, place it on the hot burner, and dump in a package of hot dogs.

However, the babysitter complained that even after two hours of boiling (including adding more water as necessary) the hot dogs never 'got small' like she thought they should. Babysitter apparently thought that Vienne Sausages were actually cooked hot dogs in a can, and so she kept peering into the pot to see if they had shrunken to the right size.

Umm. Good luck??!! Happy Mother's Day -- he owes ya!

If you need one, I do have a recipe which, 18 years later, still is the butt of my DH's jokes -- It's called "Sweet & Sour Devil Dogs". Found it when I had a whole package of hot dogs I wanted to use up. It involved ketchup, mustard and pineapple, if I recall properly. :scared:
OMG! So odd you would mention that! On another site I was JUST on someone was looking for a recipe for beans. The person got a recipe with hotdogs, pineapple, ketchup, mustard and a can of baked beans!!

I make spaghetti pie A LOT! My family loves it...as does anyone else that has tried it!! What version do you use? Mine is cooked noodles mixed with eggs, parmesan cheese, and italian seasoning put into the bottom of a casserole dish like a crust. Top with a layer of sour cream, then toppings (meat, veggies), then a layer of marinara sauce, then cheese. Bake until brown and bubbly. Easy and tasty!!! Hopefully yours is different b/c I can guarantee my recipe wouldn't get past auditions - it's too good!!

:rotfl::rotfl:

That sounds like so much fun! I'm trying to learn to cook right now and I can sympathize... I can not get the hang of it! I'm sure my friends would love to nominate me for that show.

You sound like such a fun mom and I wish you the best of luck! Hope you make it to the finals!

WOW, what do you win? Do you get cooking lessons THAT would be cool! Sounds fun

I'm good now but back when, I was a frightful cook. When DH and I first got married I made him a raw hamburger because it was burned on the outside because the pan was too hot and the sweet man ate it anyway. I made him what I thought was French Toast but what was actually candied toast because I dipped it in egg THEN dipped the bread into the sugar and cinnamon. Then there is what we call the shepherds pie incident where i left it sitting in the pie crust too long and it soaked through leaving the crust downright scary... then there was the filling made of ground beef mixed with chunky flour i didn't blend properly because i put the flour in AFTER the meat:rolleyes:

Robin..this is BIG! I am SOOO HAPPY you got nominated, and I am proud of Michael for honoring you that way.......:lmao::lmao: YEA, RIGHT! LOL:rotfl: I would make him go to EVERY taping with you as part of his punishment!:thumbsup2 I will be praying you get ON the show, I think you will do well....:wizard: Can you imagine? YOU may get your OWN show out of this! How about "Robin does it right" on Food network Monday nights after Diners, Driveins, and Dives!:thumbsup2

I really wish that I could get on the show for one reason, and its not the grand prize. Last year most of the contestants received a set of chef's knives. I would really like a set like the ones they got. It was a 3 or 4 piece Wusthof professional set. They retail for close to $400.

I couldn't be on the show anyhow. I know that I am way to good of a cook to make something as horrible as was seen on last season. I don't even think that I could fake it that bad.

DGF and I still sometimes mention that when we are cooking something that we should "add pineapple, ya know, for crunch".

by my LOVELY son...

I got a voice and email from the casting director of Worst Cooks in America on the Food Network and yes, I will probably be on the next episode of COPS because my son thinks this is hysterical...

He wrote a letter to them after watching last season's show when I kept saying "I could've been on THAT show"...:surfweb: I didn't know he agreed with me!!!

The audition is Saturday and I have to bring a HORRIBLE attempt at cooking. I asked my kid and he named about 100 things he thinks will win it for me  -- all things I THOUGHT he liked!!!

Wish me LUCK? :confused3

...you have such HIGH ASPIRATIONS.....what a PROUD MOMENT...:sad1:
